Josephine

It was well into the afternoon by the time I made it back to the cabin. The patrol had changed and I was greeted by the wolves Ash and Dax.

“Hello boys.” I waved at them as I walked into my house. I was surprised to see that the kitchen was completely clean. The pans and dishes from breakfast had been cleaned and put away, the trash had even been taken out. There was a note on the table,

Thanks for breakfast, Luna. You’re the best!

Dru, Theo, Scout

I grinned and stuck the note on the fridge before pouring myself a glass of tea. I had no sooner landed on the couch when there was a knock on my door. I groaned loudly,

“It’s open!” I yelled at the door. I could almost hear the disapproving sigh coming from the otherside as it slowly opened.

“Really?” August stared at me from the doorway.

“What do you want from me? I’m exhausted and my feet are killing me.” I grumbled, dropping my head down on the back of the sofa. I heard August shut and lock the door before joining me on the couch.

“You spent a long time at the hospital.” He said.

“They were overwhelmed with patients in the ER,” I sat up and faced August,

“They were all victims of animal attacks. Wolves.” I explained. August’s eyes pulled together in concern, Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Humans being attacked in Little Compton?”

“Not just in Little Compton, they were attacked in their own yards, August.” I reiterated. August was staring at my blank TV with a look of overwhelming concern on his face. I laid my hand overtop of his and decided not to press the issue any further,

“I’m sure you’re doing the best you can.” I smiled reassuringly. August shook the blank expression from his eyes and looked over at me,

“There’s always room for improvement.” He smirked, bringing my hand to his lips for a soft kiss.

“Did you say something about your feet hurting, love?” August asked. I hummed in answer, nodding my head slowly. August reached down and picked up my legs. I gasped as he swung my feet up on his lap and started massaging them with his fingers.

“You really don’t want to be near those things.” I said, only half joking as I pointed down at my sock covered feet that were, undoubtedly, very sweaty and very stinky.

“Whatever I can do to help my love feel better.” August winked at me, digging his thumb into the palm of my foot. I closed my eyes and groaned,

“Forget what I just said, you can do that all night long.” I moaned. August’s chuckle shook the couch,

“Keep that up and I’ll be tempted to remove more than your socks.” I blushed and opened my eyes to see him staring at me.

“Let’s keep our thoughts clean, Alpha.” I smirked at him. August’s fingers danced away from my foot and under the hem of my slacks. I swatted at his hand,

“Return to the green zone.” I warned him.

“You’re the only one who can make Alpha sound like a dirty word.” August groaned, his hand returning to my feet.

“I assure you I don’t know what you mean.” I teased him, enjoying the power I had over the Alpha.

“I hope you don’t mind that I stopped over tonight.” August said after a while.

“Not at all. I’m glad you did, actually.” I smiled at him, tucking a loose curl behind my ear.

“I can’t stay long, unfortunately. I have some business to take care of before tonight.” He sighed, clearly disappointed.

“What sort of business?” I asked curiously.

“Just some overseas meetings for a contract I’m trying to work out. There’s been some communication difficulties.” He explained.

“I imagine so.” I giggled, pulling my feet away as he began to stand up. He held out his hands and helped me up from the couch. We walked over to the door together.

“Keep this thing locked, please.” He urged. I rolled my eyes at him dramatically, but said nothing. August pulled me closer and held my face in his hands,

“I’m going to take you out on a proper date.” He announced unacceptably.

“Okay….” My laugh was silenced by his lips.

Before my eyes had opened from the kiss, he was out the door and transformed into Arlo. I watched as Arlo ran towards the tree line, pausing once to look back at me, before vanishing into the night. I shook my head at both of them, a smile on my face as I shut the door and locked it.

What was I going to do with those two?
