A Drunken Decision ( Annabelle Ross )
A Drunken Decision Cynthia Chapter 15

Chapter 15

After Mary left, Annabelle stayed in Lucas‘ room. Even though she was alone, she still could not relax completely.

She did not know whether or not she should take her clothes out of her suitcase. Not only that, but she also dared not move things around in the room as she wished. In the end, Annabelle decided to remain sitting on the couch instead.

When Lucas came back home, the first thing he faced was everyone’s reprimands. All of them, except his younger sister, scolded him for letting Annabelle go home to pack her things on her own.

Lucas glanced at his father, who was standing amongst the crowd that was giving him an earful. Rolling his eyes in exasperation, he thought, “How could you, out of everyone here, not know the reason I left her behind? Have you forgotten that today’s meeting was very important? The marriage registration could have been delayed for one more day, but they still decided to have it today. Are they afraid that she would run away?”

His glance caused guilt to wash over Timothy, who silently exited the group that castigated Lucas.

However, the others did not have the same burden. Lucas‘ grandparents, mother, and younger brother became even angrier when they noticed his silence.

“I came home as soon as I was done with work. Isn’t that enough to make up for it?” Lucas surrendered. At that moment, he looked nothing like the ruthless, cold image he maintained in public.

“I’m hungry. Is there food for me?”

“There is! Brenda had just prepared lunch. Go upstairs, and call Annabelle to come down and eat.” Mary stopped chastising her son and ordered him to go upstairs instead.

Both Donald and Susan nodded in agreement.

Benjamin was more than willing to take his brother’s place. It was just a shame that Mary covered his mouth with her hand before he could even offer to do so.

When she noticed Lucas looking at them, she lifted her chin and ordered fiercely, “Hurry up and go. What are you looking at?” All the while, she still had her hand over her youngest son’s mouth.

Lucas was rendered speechless.

There was nothing else he could do except to turn around and walk up the stairs.

His mother’s voice rang from behind him. “She’s your brother’s wife, which makes her your sister–in–law. Why are you so eager? You should channel that energy into finding a girlfriend for yourself instead,” she berated Benjamin.”

Lucas heard the term “sister–in–law” and pondered, “To be fair, my newly–wed wife is only 23 years old this year, which makes her a year younger than Elizabeth and Benjamin.”

Upon opening the door to his room, he immediately spotted the woman sleeping on the couch. The heating in the room was quite strong. Thus, there was no fear of catching a cold. With soft steps, he walked inside.

As he neared her, he was able to see her ruddy complexion. There was not a sign of makeup on her face, probably because she chose not to put on any due to her pregnancy. Her skin looked as soft as silk, tempting him to reach out and poke her cheeks. However, he instantly froze when he brushed against her slightly protruded belly.

Lucas retracted his hand and sighed. It was clear that, whether it was the woman in front of him or the child in her womb, they were just an accident to him.

Just as his grandfather said, men of the Walker family could never act irresponsibly.

Truth be told, he was not free from all responsibilities. Although they had mutual consent, he should not have forgotten about the most basic safety measures.

That was also why he was still willing to get married even though that was not in his plans for the next few years. Lucas recalled how she had apologized to him nonstop with a guilty expression on her face when they were at City Hall.

In the beginning, he did suspect that she might be using him to establish a relationship with the Walker family. However, when he saw her that day, he knew he had been overthinking things.

Putting aside the fact that whether or not she harbored such an intention, she certainly did not have the brains to mastermind such a scheme. Of course, the reality had proven that she never once thought of doing so.

“I’m really sorry to have broken our promise. But, don’t worry. I’ll file for divorce after the child is born. I’ll leave and take

the baby along with me. I won’t keep bugging you!” That was what she promised him then.

At that time, he thought there was no way he would let her file for a divorce if she were not a hopeless person.

As for the child, he naturally would not allow her to bring them away either.

Therefore, he decided to go along with it. It was not like he had anyone else better in mind to be his wife anyway

Chapter 15

Even though his plans were disrupted, adding ‘getting marriedand “having a child” to his list did not seem too difficult to handle.

Lucasgaze landed on her thick and long eyelashes. Unconsciously, he reached out to touch them. Her eyelashes were like tiny bristles on a brush, tickling his fingertip.

When Annabelle opened her eyes, she was still befuddled and only saw it was just a large hand that blocked her view upon taking a closer look. Then, she tilted her head to the side and met Lucas‘ astonished.  Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Clearing his throat, he quickly retracted his hand. In a split second, he had composed himself and put on his usual emotionless expression, as if it was not him who touched her eyelashes just now.

“Come downstairs for lunch,” he said.

“Oh!” Annabelle continued to be in a daze for a few more seconds before she finally became fully awake and got off the couch hurriedly. She remembered sitting there for a while but did not know how she ended up falling asleep.

Planning to wash her face, she headed to the bathroom but stopped at the door and subconsciously looked at the man sitting on the couch. When he did not make a move to stop her, she opened the door and walked in.

“Should we…

sleep in separate rooms?” she asked in a soft voice after coming out of the bathroom.

Lucas raised an eyebrow as he looked at her without saying anything.

Annabelle fell silent for a moment before continuing, “I feel very sorry for forcing you to marry me. I don’t want to disturb your personal life any further. I can…”

“Getting married is not something trivial!” he said in a serious voice while looking at her,

Dumbfounded by his statement, she looked at him dumbly. It was impossible for her to understand what he meant.

“Although this marriage isn’t part of my life plan, since I’ve agreed to marry you and register our marriage, it means that I will take our marriage seriously. Do you understand?”

Annabelle continued to stare at him as she shook her head. “You said that we were incompatible.”

Lucas was rendered speechless. He had indeed said those words to her.

However, he managed to regain control over the conversation in the next few seconds. “We are incompatible because we don’t know each other well. Of course, that hasn’t changed, but as compared to back then, we have an inseparable connection between us now, don’t we?”

When he noticed that she still looked confused, he suppressed the urge to roll his eyes. Tapping her belly gently, he said, “You are the mother of our child, and I am the father. This connection came into existence the moment you decided to give birth. This will remain a fact for as long as we live, right?”

Annabelle nodded to indicate that she understood his words. “So, are we not going to divorce?” she wondered.

Puzzlement washed over her as she looked at the man standing in front of her.

“Do

you still not get it? Do you want your child to lose a parent as soon as they are born? Let’s put the divorce matter aside for now. Even if you are able to give the child twice as much love, your love and affection can never replace mine. Of course, I may not let you leave with the child. Don’t you think that we should work hard to manage our marriage and provide our child with a perfect family instead of getting a divorce?” Lucas asked.

Frightened by the notion that she might not be able to leave with her child, Annabelle obviously had to agree to his suggestion. However, one thing still bugged her.

“Are you really not going to brush your teeth after eating garlic?she asked.

He was stumped for words.
