Chapter 23 

The next day, Annabelle was found to be fine, and she was allowed to be discharged from the hospital. 

She found out all that had happened at home once she came back. Sighing silently, she didn’t think that it was completely Elizabeth’s fault. 

Just like how Ashley’s return had changed her life, she was also interrupting another family’s peaceful life because of her sudden participation. 

Hence, when Lucas brought up the chance to move out, Annabelle didn’t hesitate to agree with him. 

She didn’t want to change the fate of others, and if possible, she was willing to get out of Elizabeth’s life. 

While Annabelle was packing, she handed a bank card to Lucas. It was her own and not the one Timothy gave her. 

Lucas was surprised when he saw the bank card given to him. Ever since he became an adult, no one had given him any money. After taking over Pearl Group, he was the one giving out money to others.

“We’re moving out, right? We need to get a house, too.” Seeing the surprised look on his face, Annabelle calmly explained, “I know you don’t need the money, but since we’ll be staying together, I figured I should contribute a little!” 

Annabelle used to hear that she only had the right to ask for her name to be written on the property deed if she had contributed financially. 

“The property deed should have both of our names” 

Upon hearing that, Lucas looked sullen, showing that he understood. After a while, he couldn’t help but burst out laughing- 

Annabelle was confused and thought, “Isn’t this a serious matter? Why is he laughing?” 

Lucas didn’t explain himself and told her not to worry after seeing that she was staring at him with confusion. 

Annabelle felt better about it and continued packing her things. 

She didn’t bring many things with her in the first place besides her coats, a few clothes, and some other stuff. 

“No need to pack those stuff!” Lucas said. “We can still use them when we come over occasionally. We’ll get new ones once we move into our own place!” 

Hearing that, Annabelle did as she was told. After seeing there was nothing left for her to pack, she closed the suitcase and set it aside. 

“Aren’t you going to pack?” Annabelle asked as she sat next to Lucas. 

Shaking his head, he replied, “Nope!” 

She nodded in response and figured she didn’t have to worry after remembering what he said about getting new ones. “Once we’re done moving, can we take a trip back to my place? I didn’t bring many clothes here, so I’d like to go back to get them.” She also wanted to bring his newly wedded husband to meet her parents. 

Lucas checked the calendar on his phone and nodded. “Let’s go this Saturday!” 

“Okay!” she responded, looking at him and smiling from ear to ear. Seeing that he agreed so easily, Annabelle was instantly put in a good mood. 

“She’s too easy to please,” Lucas thought. 

The next day, after breakfast, Lucas left the Walker residence with Annabelle. 

Donald and Susan were reluctant to part ways with their granddaughter in law. They thought it was unfortunate that she had to move out before they could get familiar with one another. If it wasn’t for Lucas‘ promise that he would frequently come to visit with their granddaughter in law, they wouldn’t have agreed to them moving out.

Chapter 23 

As for Timothy and Mary, they shared the same sentiments. But once they remembered what their daughter did, they had no reason to convince them to stay. They had to wait until their daughter’s problem was solved, at the very least. 

Of course, Mary decided to leave it up to Timothy to deal with the problem. The mouse incident wouldn’t have happened if the latter hadn’t stopped her. 

Timothy had a good temper; anything his daughter–in–law said goes. Hence, he wasn’t in a rush to go back to the office. Other than sending his son and daughter–in–law off, he also needed to have a chat with her daughter. 

However, their conversation wasn’t going to be a simple sit–down. Once Elizabeth woke up, Timothy dragged her to the hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology department. They sat in the obstetrics and gynecology director’s office the whole day to understand what happens during pregnancy. 

There were joyful, painful, regretful, and near–death experiences. 

Elizabeth never knew that pregnancy was something so serious. Pregnancy and childbirth were just two simple words, but it seemed like they would require a lot of hardships to get through. 

There was a case of a pregnant woman getting a miscarriage because she carried a bowl of water. Elizabeth couldn’t understand how a pregnant woman could have miscarried over a bowl of water. 

Seeing that, Timothy brought her to meet the obstetrics and gynecology director during his free time to explain to her the reasons for it happening and the consequences of frightening a pregnant woman. 

The director was considered an old friend to Timothy. Although the former wasn’t sure why he had to, he tried his best to explain everything to Elizabeth. He explained that an occasional small fright wouldn’t impact the pregnant woman and the child much. Long–term fright, however, would affect the child’s development and cause severe shock. 

Once they stepped out of the hospital, Elizabeth still felt dizzy. Although deep down she knew she was at fault, she still refused to admit it out loud. 

“It was just a toy mouse. A toy mouse!” she thought. 

“The problem isn’t about the mouse!” As if he knew what his daughter was thinking, Timothy put his arm over her shoulders as they walked out and gently advised, “I think dogs are cute, but some people are just afraid of dogs. They’d even tremble when they saw one. Some people have snakes as pets, but I’m terrified of snakes. I get so frightened that I get goosebumps all over me when I see one. I can’t even move in the face of one!! remember your fear of those big caterpillars. The ones that were super chunky and long. That one time when we were at the agro–tourism resort, your brother threw one at you, and you were crying and jumping. You even gave your brother a hitting after. Remember that?” 

Elizabeth couldn’t forget it even if she tried. When Timothy said the words “big caterpillar,” the hairs on her body stood up uncontrollably. 

“That’s why the mouse and Annabelle are the same as you and a big caterpillar. Besides, Annabelle’s pregnant. Do you think what you did yesterday morning was right, Eliza?” 

“I just don’t like her!” Elizabeth muttered, lowering her head. 

“No one is asking you to like her!” Timothy’s voice remained gentle. “When we’re not familiar with someone or when we don’t understand them, don’t you think we should observe them first? Instead of treating them with malice?” 

“But she used such dirty tricks to force Lucas into marrying her…” Elizabeth wasn’t convinced. The point was that she clearly felt bad for her brother, yet Lucas disregarded her sentirent. 

“Everyone has the own preference!” Timothy let out a chuckle. “Don’t forget, that is between your brother and Annabelle. Whether it’s good or bad, only they have the right to decide. We’re simply outsiders, and you don’t know what actually happened between them, right?” 

Elizabeth kept quiet for the longest time, and once they got in the car, she uttered, “I was wrong!”
