Seeing it, made it all so much more real than I’d ever dreaded possible. My heart broke into a million pieces and my stomach felt like a bottomless pit. The tears in his eyes, the love in his voice, the unleased happiness in his breath. Seeing him hold her – his mate – in his arms, knowing what it felt like… And then, knowing it would never be me again…
My vision clouded seeing them together. Derik and his mate. My heart clenched as I turned around. My body feeling numb, but my legs did the job of carrying me away. My heart was begging me to try and fight for him, but I knew it would be useless. I’d just humiliate myself.
It would be just like with Sif.
It didn’t matter what I did or said. It wasn’t the werewolf way.
I walked out of the underground basement and into the cold night air. A few pitiful glances and righteous smirks sent my way.
They won!
And I lost everything…
I continued walking into the dark forest. I walked and walked until suddenly my legs gave in from exhaustion. I fell to my knees, seeing nothing in front of me, but darkness. Feeling nothing but the cold of the night surrounding my body, mind and heart. Pain clutching my chest. Tears burning my eyes. Regret and anger fueling my hurt. I gasped, finding it harder and harder to breath.
Darkness!
And then, I screamed….
