A Wolves World
Making a Plan

I turned around to come face to face with Connor he didn’t look angry so that was good.

“Brett and I just came in to use the bathroom before we head out. I was just looking around while Brett was looking for the bathroom.” Brett emerges from the hallway at that moment.

“You have a nice house, Connor.” Brett comes to a stop next to me as he speaks.

“Thanks.”

“I was wondering where the decorative stuff was and I couldn’t help but notice there aren’t any family pictures,” I say genuinely wanting to know why

“Oh, we haven’t unpacked all that stuff yet.” I was about to bring up the fact that when we got here he said they had finished unpacking but Brett stopped me.

“Erica we should really be going why don’t you go stop in the bathroom I will wait for you outside.”

“Okay, I will be out in a few.” I walk down the hall to the bathroom. I didn’t actually have to go so I sat on the edge of the tub. A minute or two later I flushed the toilet and ran my hands under the faucet water, just in case someone was outside the room waiting. I exit and to my relief, no one was out there I quickly leave the house and meet up with Brett who was waiting just outside the door. We say goodbye to Connor and thank him for having us over before we head to the road. We walk away before going into the woods and shifting.

We run to my house and shift before going inside and sitting on my couch.

“Your instincts are right something is definitely up with them,” I say turning to face Brett.

“Yeah, the house was to empty almost if they had to leave their old house with a bag full of clothes.”

“And I couldn’t find any trace of wolf scent on them so they are definitely not wolves.”

“It is possible they are working for or with wolves though.” Brett states matter of factly.

“How neither of us smelled any wolf traces in the house?”

“Everything in the house seemed new so there would be no wolf scent on them. And their clothes they have been washed multiple times they have a strong smell of laundry detergent on them.”

“What could they be hiding.” I wonder out loud.

“I don’t know, especially because of the lie we caught him in.”

“Yeah that was odd, but I don’t know what we will be able to find out without asking him directly,” I say with a sigh.

“I was thinking of something I saw when watching a show on your TV once. It said that one reason that people who may not have pictures and things is because, if they are in witness protection program and they may have to run at a moments notice.”

“That is a possibility and it would explain your instinct. They got into trouble and are hiding something and you can sense that they are not telling the truth. Or something along those lines.”

“It is a possibility but I still feel something else is up with them,” Brett states,

" Well, maybe we will have to keep close eyes on him. But we have to act normal around him because things could go really bad if he senses that we know something is off with him.”

“Yeah.” We spend the rest of the day just hanging out not wanting to think much about Connor and what may be up with him. We plan to meet up Sunday at the den to make a plan at how we are going to deal with Connor. I walked Brett to the edge of my lawn as we said our goodbyes, he gave me a kiss on the cheek before shifting and making his way to the den.

The next morning I changed into jeans and a T-shirt and ran a brush through my hair. I ate breakfast before making my way to the den. When I got there Brett was taking care of the bones of what I assume was his breakfast.

“Hey,” I say walking up to him as he threw the bones off into the woods.

“Hey, you ready to make a plan?”

“I guess. ” we sit down on the pillows Brett has in the den. “So Brett do you have any ideas of what we could do,” I ask making myself comfortable.

“Maybe.” I sit silently waiting for him to continue. “I was thinking that we try to catch him in more lies, that would be helpful. I was thinking back to our conversations with him and it was mostly about us. About our past and family but not much about him just that they moved here because of his dad’s job.”

“That is a good idea we have to be inconspicuous about it though.”

“Of course. Now what should we ask him?” questions Brett.

“Where he is from would be a good one, we could also ask what his dad does for work, maybe ask again why they moved to see if his story stays the same. I don’t know what else we could ask him, at least nothing comes to mind.”

“It may be a bad idea but we could ask his thoughts on myths like werewolves.”

“That is risky but it is a good idea. We ask him that and he will either have something rehearsed or he will not know what to say and stumble. Can we listen to people’s heart rates?”

“Yes we can, why do you ask?”

“If his heart rate picks up when he speaks we can tell for sure if he is lying.”

“You are really smart. You know that right?” Brett smiles at me with admiration.

“Maybe just a little,” I say with a laugh. “So we begin tomorrow questioning him.”

“Yeah, should we write down what he says?” Brett asks

“It might be a little suspicious if we write down what he is saying.”

“True,” Brett sounds defeated.

“But if we say it is for an assignment then he won’t think it is weird.”

“But don’t we have the same classes as him,” Brett asks confused.

“No, when I helped him with his schedule on his first day I noticed that he had a different English class than we did.”

“So we say it is for an assignment for that class he won’t know because he is not in the same class,” Brett concludes.

“Exactly.” Brett gets a piece of paper out and we write out the fake assignment and come up with different questions to ask him. After that, we spend a while practice fighting in both our wolf and human form.

“Do you want to come over to my house, I can make us a dinner that is more filling than fish, rabbit or squirrel.”

“Sure I would love to.” We head to my house and I look through the ingredients that we have. There is just enough of what I need to make some Spaghetti, so I start to pull everything out before grabbing my mom’s recipe. I got everything started and then realized how sweaty and stinky I was.

“Hey, Brett would you mind watching the food while I hop into a quick shower?”

“Sure I can do that,” he says shifting how he was sitting on the couch to look at me.

“Thank you.” I give him a kiss on the head and then run up the stairs to my bathroom. I quickly take a shower not wanting to leave Brett alone with the food for too long. When I get downstairs Brett is adding the noodles to the boiling pan water.

“You know how to make spaghetti?”

“No I do not, but I do know how to read a recipe.”

“Well, I can take it from here if you could please set the table.”

“No problem.” Brett moves out of the way of the stove and goes to grab plates and silverware. After a while everything is ready and I get the parmesan cheese out of the fridge and put it on the table with the noodles and sauce. Brett sits down at the table across from me and we begin to eat. As we eat we chat about whatever comes to our heads.

“If you want to go take a shower you can I can lend you some of my dad’s clothes that he doesn’t wear anymore,” I tell Brett as I take care of the leftover spaghetti. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Is this your way of saying that I stink,” he smirked giving me a curious look.

“No this is my way of saying that we got all hot and sweaty while fighting earlier and a dip in the lake isn’t going to cut it for your human form.”

“You may have a point but I don’t want to impose.”

“Seriously, Brett you practically live here already. I will leave a change of clothes for you on my bed you know where my room is right?”

“Yes, I do.”

“Alright there are extra towels and washcloths in the cabinet and if you don’t want to use my body wash and stuff I can get you what my dad uses.”

“I will be fine using your stuff. Thank you, you are very kind.”

“Well, you are my boyfriend and my Alpha I kinda have to.” I give him a playful smirk.

“You are something else.” he smiles and walks up the stairs in the direction of my room. I head to my parent’s room and rifle through the back of my dad’s side of the walk-in closet. I grab a pair of jeans and sweatpants as well as a sweatshirt and T-shirt for him to choose from. I take the clothes up to my room opening the door and placing them on my bed. As I turn to leave something stops me almost like there is someone speaking in my head that is not me. I can’t make out what is being said but I feel compelled to go into the bathroom and go to Brett. It is then that I become aware of the sound of the water running and hitting his body, the beating of his heart a little faster than normal but still soothing to me. I am able to shake myself out of whatever trans like state I was in, and I practically run down the stairs as I feel my cheeks heat up.
