Abandoned (Born From Shadows #2)
Chapter Forty-Eight

Kol thought about Tyrion’s words. Attack the wall with daggers. Could he do that? Did he want to do that? Did he want to find out what his life was like before her? He sighed.

He was loyal to her. Only her. These people may not have chained him, but they dragged him into the middle of nowhere to starve and grow weak when he was finally getting his strength up.

What irritated him the most was whenever they called him Kaycion. Who was Kaycion? His name was Koltala. The dark lady said so, and she had never lied to him. He didn’t like these two people. He hated their constant pity glances, he hated the girl who says she understands what is going on in his mind. She has no fucking idea, he didn’t even know what was happening. And he didn’t want to know. He wanted to be left alone and the dark Lady promised him just that. Freedom.

This wasn’t freedom. The other Fae kept insisting to him that he was free, but how could this be freedom? He was starving. He was dehydrated. Yet he still had to walk miles every day.

He glanced over at the girl sitting on the floor whose magical abilities were growing with every day. He knew that wasn’t good. These people wanted to hurt the dark Lady, and they were growing stronger. She could now control the rock, move it through the air. She was excited about it, he could tell by the look in her strange eyes.

They were almost there, the Elven forest was a couple of meters away. When they first arrived the girl was shocked by multiple human heads that laid spiked along the forest edge. However, he was happy. It meant her plan was working. It meant he was inching towards freedom.

He sighed and decided to walk around whilst the other two practised. He hadn’t slept in days. The last time he did he saw himself talking to people he had never seen before as well as Tyrion. He saw himself in the middle of a fight. He saw Tyrion running away from him. It was a memory, it had to be, but he didn’t want to remember it. He didn’t want any of it, he had decided he wanted to start a life without whatever haunted him in the past.

Yet still, there was a constant tapping at the wall.

“No, don’t,” he wished to yell at it. Don’t break, yet still, his subconscious had started to chisel away at it. Cracks had begun to appear, leaking images and flashes into his vision.

“Come on Kaycion, we’re leaving, we should reach Kalida by nightfall,” Tyrion said to him, once again speaking a false name.

“Seriously, we are that close?” Tatianna asked to which Tyrion nodded. He just sighed. Tonight he will finally be able to do what he was sent here to do by the Dark Lady, the true Queen of all Crénia. He would be able to please her wishes, meaning he was one step closer.

“Stop it,” he swore wordlessly to his mind.

The dark-winged Fae followed behind the others, he hated travelling beside them and listening to the whinny girl’s conversation. He found her so infuriating.

His weak legs shook as he stepped over one of the massive tree’s roots. The wildlife here was extraordinary, that he couldn’t deny. Everything seemed as if it were scaled up in size. There was also something else that made his blood and bones tingle as if they were awake with the forest. It was magic, it had to be, he concluded. The chisel to the wall was thankfully silent for the rest of the journey through the Elven homeland.

The soft music danced through his ears from one end to the other. They or rather Tyrion and Tatianna had decided it was best to stick to the shadows of the town. A decision that he had no choice but to follow. He didn’t mind it though, dealing with people seemed to not be one of his favourite past times.

“I’m going to the Inn and seeing if we can get a room. You two go together and find food,” Tyrion stated. Kol looked over at the small girl with a roll of his eyes. Just great, he thought, more alone time with the annoying one.

Tyrion left and the caramel-haired girl turned toward him. “I saw a small shop not far from here with fresh fruits and bread,” she said, already breaking her promise to never speak to him again. He didn’t expect her to keep it, and it’s not like she really swore upon it, but still, it did annoy him.

When he didn’t reply her eyes drifted to the ground and she turned around, walking to where he assumed was this shop. She walked in front of him, going back through the forest to where the shop was. He almost froze halfway through their walk before shaking his head.

“What the fuck?” he mumbled to himself.

“What was that?” she asked, her Elf hearing picking up on the slightest of a whisper.

“Nothing concerning you,” he lied. She rolled her eyes and kept walking. It did concern her, and that was the weirdest thing about that moment. She had crept into his thoughts, or rather her body had. It was so strange to him. He couldn’t fathom, why he would think of another in that way yet still for just a moment his gaze had settled on her arse. He shook his head clearing it of the thought. The cracking continued.

He shook his head once more and walked to where she was talking to another Elf.

“I have no money, I am so sorry. I haven’t eaten in weeks, all I ask is for a small amount of food, please,” she pleaded to the male running the small store like it was second nature for her.

“I’m sorry but…have I seen you before?” The stranger said just noticing Kol’s presence. The Elf looked between him and Tatianna constantly for a few seconds before a gasping look settled upon his face.

“You’re the King’s wife, the Queen and you’re…no that can’t be right,” the Elf said and stared intently at him. Kol shuffled his wings, wanting to just walk away from such a confrontation. He didn’t like where this conversation was heading

“You’re the last Heir…Kaycion Harrowthyn. You’re supposed to be dead,” the Elf said in astonishment.
