Chapter 10 The Chief Assistant?

It had been a month since Raynard last asked about it. Gwyneth thought the matter was behind her.

But now, she found it even more complicated.

Gwyneth was at a loss for how to respond.

Remaining silent, Raynard cast a cold glance at her. “What? Don’t you want to?”

She didn’t want to!

However, paralyzed by fear in Raynard’s presence, she lacked the courage to say no.

Before she could utter a word, Raynard continued, “You still have a long way to go before becoming the chief assistant.”

Shock filled Gwyneth’s eyes as she lifted her head.

Raynard wanted her to learn from Darron because he intended to promote her to the position of chief assistant?

If that were the case, her salary would quadruple, which was particularly appealing given her mortgage. Gwyneth couldn’t help but find it enticing.

But she lowered her head and asked, “Isn’t he already the chief assistant?”

“He’ll be resigning by the end of the year to take over his family’s business!”

Gwyneth held her breath.

Darron came from a wealthy family, just as she had suspected. Gwyneth thought to herself, “I’m quite clever!”

However, she had no inheritance to fall back on.

This realization fueled her determination to work harder.

“Alright! I’ll work harder!” she blurted out.

But as she contemplated her first task, she froze.

Was she going to investigate the night she spent with Raynard?

Yet, she couldn’t take back her words.

Raynard didn’t understand why she suddenly looked so excited, but her quick agreement softened him.

“You can go now.”

“Okay, Mr. Fletcher.” Her enthusiasm had waned.

She was now in low spirits.

Raynard furrowed his brow, puzzled by her abrupt change in mood, as he watched her walk away.

During lunchtime.

Gwyneth prepared Raynard’s lunch and joined Janine for their meal.

They usually ate in the cafeteria, but today they chose a quieter restaurant due to their earlier conversation.

They sat at a discreet table, and Janine inquired, “What happened? Why did you agree to that?”

“He’s still investigating that woman.”

“I know.”

“He asked me to assist Darron.”

Janine was taken aback.

What was going on? Both of them were asked to investigate! That was terrifying!

“Did you reveal anything?” Janine asked anxiously. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Find_Nøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Gwyneth was inherently timid, and she couldn’t understand why Raynard had chosen her.

He even made her his assistant.

Gwyneth sniffled. “No, I managed to divert his attention.”

But she felt like she could collapse at any moment.

Janine placed her hand on Gwyneth’s forehead. “We need to do something.”

“Darron asked me to give him the angel necklace.”

“The angel necklace? The one you always wear?” Janine peered at her neck, but there was no necklace there.

She hadn’t noticed that Gwyneth had removed it.

Gwyneth replied, “I left it in the room.”

Janine grew even more desperate. She had been unaware of this detail before, and now she was even more frightened.

It was no wonder Gwyneth had said they were in trouble!

Janine took a deep breath and asked, “Mr. Fletcher hasn’t seen your necklace before, right?”

“I don’t know!” Gwyneth’s mind went blank.

Janine was equally perturbed.

Summer attire was lightweight, so many people knew that Gwyneth wore an angel necklace.

While Raynard wouldn’t typically scrutinize his employees as the president, the thought of it terrified Gwyneth.

Janine was growing angrier. “So you gave it to Darron?”
