Levi was shocked. And angry. And hurt. I felt like such an asshole. Toying with him like this, it was brutal. For Ryker too. But they deserved it. I couldn’t let either of them off from this without a bit of revenge. Being this close to Levi, yet treating him like a stranger, was weird. I’d almost lost my confidence when our gazes collided earlier. But I was committed to seeing this through. He looked so warm in his thick puffer coat. I was tempted to throw myself into his arms, to let him kiss away these past few weeks and go back to the last morning I’d woken beside him. A loud voice cut through my thoughts. Someone was shouting my name. I blinked out of my daze as strong arms enveloped me, lifting me off the ground and against a solid chest. I peered over my shoulder, finding Tripp. He was grinning so hard his eyes had creased.
“You’re back.”
“I’m back,” I parroted, smiling too.
“Forever?”
“For now.”
One step at a time. He set me on my feet, turning my shoulders so I was facing him.
“Have you eaten?”
I shook my head. “I dropped my things at my dorm then came straight here.”
“To see this idiot?” He gestured over my shoulder where Levi was still standing. “He can wait. Let’s go get lunch.”
“Seriously?” Levi ground.
Tripp shrugged. “Just ‘cause you screwed up with Hughesy doesn’t mean she has to hate us by association.”
Ryan was behind Tripp. He smiled at me.
“Hey, Hughesy.”
“Hey, Ryan.”
“Enough chit chat,” Tripp interjected. “I’m starved.”
He turned me towards the carpark, past Levi whose heavy eyes held mine.
“We’ll catch you later, Cap.”
Maybe. I guess I was leaving that up to chance.
