Chapter 24 Gasping, she jumped up and face me with a glare. “Why are you following me?” “They are gone.” I said, holding my arms out to the sides. “He still wouldn’t believe me,” she whispered, looping her arms over her stomach and looking down. 1 loathed seeing that disheartened look on her face. When I stepped closer to her, her eyes snapped to mine again and I  stood still . “He’s under the control of a powerful spell.” I reminded her. Nora shook her head and wiped her eyes one more time. “No. It doesn’t matter. Spell or not, he should be able to remember me as his friend and know I’d never do any of those things. I can’t love him after how he’s treated me.” “Really?” I asked. I tried to hide my smile and failed. I didn’t know why but hearing Nora admit that she wasn’t in love with Jeremy anymore filled me with a strange sense of satisfaction. I’d never felt anything like it before. “Really. He accused me of having his best friend killed. One of my best friends. Even under a spell, if he thinks I’m capable of that, then he isn’t the man I thought he was,” she continued. “Nora,” I took another step closer. This time, she didn’t glare at me. I got close enough to put an arm around her shoulders and she let me. She sighed heavily, leaning against me slightly, “Whatever feelings I had for him are gone now.” “A man like that isn’t worth getting all worked up over,” I said gently. “He was my m– mate,” she stuttered. “I’m supposed to get worked up over that, aren’t I?” She looked up at me with glassy eyes.

“He betrayed that bond, not you. You have nothing to feel sorry for and I can assure you that you are not missing out on anything by letting him go.” I squeezed her gently and put my hand on her cheek. Nora’s eyes grew even wider and her breathing grew shallow. “Thank you.” I brushed my thumb over her cheek. She looked so sad and vulnerable. I wanted to protect her vulnerability and I wanted to bring a smile back to her face. I ran my thumb down her cheek and to her l*ps, running it along her bottom l*p.  “Don’t let a guy like him bring you down. He’s not worth your tears or your sorrow. You’re a happy, cheerful woman and he can’t change that, okay?” “O–okay,” Nora muttered. 1 released her and stepped back. We stood face to face and I could see Nora strengthen herself again. She straightened her clothes quickly and looked around awkwardly at the roses. “It doesn’t matter what Jeremy said to you. I’m still going to help you get your wolf back. If he stands in my way, I will go through him.” I promised. I took one of Nora’s hands in mine. “No,” she said, shaking her head. “What? Are you defending him still?” “No, I’m not defending him. She shook her head again. “I don’t want you to get my wolf back.” I creased my brow and tilted my head to the side. “I don’t u
