Chapter 86

Freya was bedding down for the night, curling up by her magical fire.

I held Isla, stroking her hair. Even in this situation, even when there was danger around every turn, Isla still felt like home.

“Can we go somewhere and talk?” I asked her softly.

Isla looked up at me in the firelight and nodded.

I carefully removed my pants and shifted. Isla picked them up off the ground and folded them, then tucked them under her arm. She put a hand on my back, her fingers curling into my fur as I led us away.

Sniffing the air, I was surprised to find I did, indeed, recognize the area. With a wolfy grin, I led Isla, under the starlight, to the old wreck of a cabin where we’d first met, about two miles away from Freya..

Isla recognized the place as well, as we got closer and gasped. “Jamie, you found it!”

I nodded my head and bumped her hip with my nose, encouraging her to go inside.

The place was in even worse condition than the last time we’d been there, but there was at least one working kerosene lamp.

Isla sat down on the bed, which, miraculously, was still sturdy enough to hold her weight. Both our weight, as it turned out, as I shifted and sat down beside her.

She offered me my pants, but I shook my head. I took Isla’s hand and threaded my fingers. through hers.

My heart swelled when she leaned her head on my shoulder.

“Isla…” I whispered, k*ssing her hair. “You remember what we did in this place?”

“Yes,” Isla said with a charming little chuckle. “You ravished me. Several times, as I recall.”

I drew little circles on the back of her hand with my thumb. “Yes,” I agreed. “We mated, and.. and fell in love.”

Isla’s soft smile was like sunshine for my soul. I remember.”

I turned to her and slid my finger along her jaw, tipping her head up to meet my eyes. “Isla… I have never stopped loving you.”

“Oh..” Isla winked, “I know, in some corner of my mind and heart, I never stopped loving you.” She smiled.

I would never forgive myself.

Looking into her eyes, I knew what words Isla held back. She was hurt, and it was all my

fault.

The nights with other women were just empty. For the past five years, I tried every way I knew how to just forget Isla, and that just happened to be one of the ways.

But even if that could be a reason.

…I’m sorry I was unfaithful to you.” That was all I would allow myself to say.

Isla looked away from me. I could tell she was still hurt. “I suppose,” she said, “given that I completely forgot about you and Margot, it’s hardly the worst sin between us.”

“That wasn’t your fault,” I insisted.

“Wasn’t it?” Isla stared down at her hands. “I was ignorant and st upid. I let my family just…. destroy me. Destroy us.”

“It wasn’t your fault,” I said again, more vehemently. Finally, I pulled her into my lap and framed her face with my hands. “It wasn’t your fault at all. You were with people you should have been able to trust. You were cursed and poisoned and lied to. And I just… I treated you so badly when I brought you home. I’m so sorry.”

Tears streamed down Isla’s checks. “I love you, Jamic,” she murmured. “And I’m sorry I ever forgot that.”

“I love you, Isla. And I’m sorry I ever betrayed that,” I replied. I curved my hand around the back of her n*eck and pulled her down for a k*ss.

I could taste Isla’s tears on my tongue as our k*ss became more passionate. “Isla…” I sighed, pulling her closer.

There would be no mistaking my erection. I pulled back a little and pressed my forehead against hers, panting already with need. “Please, Isla,” I begged. I was not a man who begged for anything, but now I was begging her. “Please.”

Silently, Isla raised her arms.

I bunched the hem of her dress in my hands and pulled it over her head. I realized she was wearing no bra, and her panties were a flimsy barrier between me and where I wanted to be.

Except for Isla putting a hand on my wrist, I would have torn them. “We have to walk more tomorrow, and this is the only pair I have.”

She had a point. I worked my fingers into the waistband of the already soaking-wet panties and peeled them off her. I caught a whiff of my mate’s strong, unique scent and groaned, lapping at her wet entrance.

Isla squeaked and grabbed my hair, holding me to her.

I had to hold her hips until she came. Then, as she shuddered with her or gasm, I quickly sheathed myself in her b*dy.

“Jamie!” Isla moaned as I lifted her and rocked her in my lap.

I needed her so much I was practically feral. “Ride me, baby,” I murmured against her breast as I sucked on a n*pple. “Ride me hard.”

Isla whimpered but did as I asked. Our thrusting bodies were desperate for each other, the mate bond strong between us.

It still wasn’t enough. So I dug my fingers into her a*s and helped Isla along, pounding

hard.

“Baby, I-I need to make you mine again,” I groaned, finally settling on what it was I was sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

missing.

Isla, who was holding on for dear life, pushed her sweaty, light hair out of her face and looked down at me. “You want to mark me?”

I nodded, sweat breaking over my b*dy with the effort not to come.

Isla brushed her l*ps over mine, then cradled my head, so my l*ps met the sensitive spot. between her n*eck and shoulder. “Make me yours, Jamie.”

I kept going until I felt Isla’s inner walls tighten around my co ck. As she came, I bit down hard, cu mming myself inside her.

“Ah!” Isla cried out, holding me tightly, her back arching as another or gasm. through her.

“Mine…” I growled, licking Isla’s blood from my l*ps. I k*ssed her as we shuddered together. “All mine.”

I didn’t pull out. Isla curled into me, hiccuping a s ob.

“Are you okay, baby?” I asked, running my fingers through her long hair.

“Yes,” Isla said. She leaned up and k*ssed me. “Did we.. do that before? Here?”

I shook my head. “Later. At the castle. On our wedding night.” I stroked her soft, perfect skin. “But it just seemed right to do it again here.”

Isla nodded. “I wonder what happened to my scar from before.”

“Your family probably either healed it or magicked it away.” I ran my tongue over the deep mark I’d made. “This one will stay.”

Isla smiled tiredly. “I imagine it will.”

I k*ssed Isla’s nose and wrapped my arms around her, snuggling us into the old, lumpy

mattress.

Just as I closed my eyes to go to sleep, I heard it.

Howling in the distance.

I carefully extricated myself from Isla, who had already fallen asleep, then sat up, listening to the night.

Another howl, closer now, broke the silence.

“Sh it,” I murmured and dove for the kerosene lamp, extinguishing it quickly.

“Jamie?” Isla whispered in the dark.

I went back to the bed and wrapped her in my arms. “Shh. Something is happening. We don’t want to be found.”

Isla held onto me tightly, her nails digging into my arms.

There was a snap of twigs outside the cabin and a low growl.

I barely had time to shift before a red wolf launched itself at us.
