Chapter 148

Suddenly, a long, warm hand covered her eves, plunging her world into darkness

Howard spoke, “Don’t look at them, look at me.”

Gwendolyn heard his voice, firm and reassuring. ‘Gwen, leave the rest to me”

Howard took the microphone from her hands, his deep voice resonating through the speakers filling the grand hall, “I’ll present the evidence”

All eyes and camems focused on him

The doors of the conference room burst open, and Valor, forehead slick with sweat, hurried forward, clutching a supremely tacky plastic bag as he handed it over to Howard

“Mission accomplished.” Valor wiped his brow and even gave Gwendolyn a conspiratorial wink.

He had managed to deliver the goods just in time.

Gwendolyn was utterly confused, having no clue what he had brought

The reporters craned their necks to see, their cameras zooming in on the unassuming plastic bag.

Howard opened the bag, spilling out a stack of certificates, his cool voice reading aloud

“This is a Traditional Medicine Mentorship Certificate…”

“Apprenticeship Completion Certificate”

“Medical Skills Position Qualification Certificate‘ and a ‘Medical Practitioner’s License.”

He pulled out a red certificate and stated, “This is the medical license you’ve all been so eager to see.”

Howard flipped to the inside page

It bore the name Gwendolyn, with a registration date from five years ago.

Five years ago? Gwendolyn was stunned. The reporters in the room were equally taken aback.

The viewers watching the live broadcast were in disbelief.

Only Ferdinand, the vice president of the Health Association, looked dark and stormy, not even bothering to examine the certificates closely as he bellowed, “Ladies and gentlemen. Don’t be fooled by this couple. Our Health Association has never issued these certificates.”

*So, these are all forgeries.

Forgeries. Of course. That was the only logical explanation.

The reporters‘ minds raced, their microphones nearly poking into the faces of Gwendolyn and Howard.

“Gwendolyn, you’ve just graduated and don’t meet the conditions to apply for a medical license. A registration from five years ago is absurd. As everyone knows, you need a full year of internship before you can even take the exam.”

“Mr. Chadwick, Mr. Ferdinand has personally confirmed that these are fake. What do you have to say for yourselve

“If these are real, why didn’t you show them earlier to prove your innocence?” Sneering. Ferdinand’s lips curled into a contemptuous

smirk.

Thinking you could outplay me?” he thought. “You are digging your own graves.”

Gwendolyn’s lips tightened, and she reached out, gently tugging at Howard’s sleeve. She felt a mix of sorrow and guilt, believing that Mr. Chadwick had actually resorted to forgery for her sake.

Howard appeared aloof and calm, his eyes betraying no emotion.

“Who said there’s only one path to obtaining a medical license, he spoke, his voice as detached as the last snow on a high mountain peak

So cold it was almost untouchable, sacrilegious

Ferdinand let out a mocking laugh as if watching Howard march towards his demise.

With Lifespan Locust Pharmacy destroyed, his funds had dried up.

Cutting off his livelihood was akin to killing his loved ones. He’d harbored resentment against Howard and Gwendolyn for a long time. He stood up, his voice booming louder, “Indeed, there are two paths to obtaining a medical license. The first is graduation from an accredited school and completing the required intership. The second is even more demanding, requiring mentorship from a physician with years of clinical experience…”

“As far as I know, Gwendolyn is a graduate of Bayridge University’s medical school, a country girl from a backwater village. Where would she find the opportunity to be apprenticed to a renowned physician? Which blind fool would take her as a disciple?”

Ferdinand spoke confidently, convincing most of the audience.

But the way Howard looked at him was akin to staring at a dead man.

On the back wall of the grand conference room, the quartz clock’s hands were aligned Howard’s lips curled into a slight smile, and that renowned physician was never late It was time for his arrival  Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the FɪndNøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Clang. The doors of the conference room swung open

An elderly man dressed in a white uniform, his white hair betraying his years but his posture exuding vitality, stepped into view.

His voice, weathered yet powerful, filled the room, “What if I am that blind fool?”
