Bainbridge stormed to the back of the mom with a face like a brewing storm, yanking a choir out with a screech that made everyone
wince.
He plopped down with a thud
Jarvis, ever the composed one, managed to maintain his poker face.
Howard watched the scene with a detached air, his right hand casually beneath the conference table, fingers gently caressing Gwendolyn’s wrist
Gwendolyn glanced back at him with a shy smile, feeling like a little blossom had unfurled in her chest.
“Howard, what in the world are you playing at to call this shareholders‘ meeting?” Bainbridge gritted his teeth in anger.
Howard had humiliated him by making him kneel yesterday, and now he was starting this farce.
It all reeked of foul play!
“Just thought it was time for a little shake–up,” Howard said nonchalantly, “I’ve found you quite the eyesore for some time.”
He was the picture of cool disdain.
“Don’t push me too far!” Bainbridge wamed.
“Too far?” Howard raised his brow. “Oh, we’re just getting started.” He turned to Larkin. “Larkin, take the lead, will you?”
Larkin was all too eager, morphing into Howard’s yes man in a heartbeat.
Clearing his throat, Larkin announced, “Today’s meeting is called to discuss a change in the shareholding structure. Shareholders have the right to participate in major decisions and change the management. Mr. Chadwick proposes a motion to dismiss the president and vice–president of Chadwick Group.”
A change at the head of Chadwick Group?
Howard was aiming to oust Jarvis and Bainbridge from the boardroom!
“What right do you have to fire me? I was appointed by Warren! The major shareholder isn’t even here. What gives you the right to propose such a thing!” Bainbridge couldn’t contain his thunderous roar at the threat to his position.
“Come on, Howard, we’re family. Why the bloodlust? Jarvis straightened up, his face etching serious lines.
Bainbridge blustered, “I’m getting Warren on a video call. He should be in on this meeting.”
“Of course.” Howard remained aloof, his eyes devoid of warmth.
Each share was a vote, and Warren only held 30%, far from a controlling interest.
Besides, Howard never entered a battle unprepared
Bainbridge hastily connected the conference room’s screen to his laptop and dialed Warren. Soon enough, Warren’s wrinkled visage filled the screen, looking palled and frail.
Bainbridge, with a flair for the dramatic, relayed the room’s tension to him.
Warren, looking at Howard, asked, “is this really necessary, Howard?”
With a sharp glint in his eyes, Howard replied, “Absolutely.”
Warren sighed, “Then lets put it to a vote.”
“Hold on!” Larkin, all smiles, interjected, “Before we vote, I have something for the shareholders to see. This has been my labor of love for the past six months.”
He distributed a hefty stack of documents, thoughtfully sending a digital copy to Warren to ensure clear visibility.
Larkin pointedly did not share the documents with Bainbridge and Jarvis.
“What’s this?”
The shareholders were dumbstruck by the contents.
“Can this be true? Outrageous!”
Suddenly, the screen went black as Warren’s camera shook and the phone crashed to the floor.
Warren had fainted upon reading the document, and chaos erupted from the Chadwick Manor, audible even in the conference room
“Warren!”
“What’s happened to him?!”
