Chapter 90

“I’m not leaving. Gwendolyn spread her arms wide, standing firm before him like a mother hen shielding her chicks.

“Out of my way!” The cane swung wildly, and Warren’s fury unleashed on Howard with reckless abandon.

Thud.

Again and again, Gwendolyn wrapped her arms around Howard, taking the blows for him. “Gwendolyn, step aside!” Howard began to regret bringing her into this mess.

“I won’t!” Stubborn as ever, she shielded him even more fiercely. “Mr. Chadwick, for better or worse, you’ve done so much for me. I want to do something for you to make you proud!”

Gwendolyn clenched her teeth, her eyes reddening with emotion.

She thought he was foolish. There were far crueler, more vicious ways to avoid this pain.

But he chose to leave the Chadwick family with his head held high.

Even knowing it was his plan, her heart ached for him.

Howard reached out, pulling her close, shielding her from Warren’s relentless strikes.

“Howard!” Warren panted heavily. “Admit your wrongs, and I might retract my words.”

Howard’s fingers clenched and were pale and tense. “The family wronged me, deceived me, and you are an accomplice. What wrongs should I admit?”

“You’ll regret this!”

Those rare moments of grandfatherly warmth and guidance from his youth were shattered, blow by blow.

In Howard’s heart, those memories were being carved out ruthlessly.

He was cutting ties in the most definitive way possible.

Outside the room, Farrah watched with gleeful excitement, calling Bainbridge. “Howard’s digging his own grave, angering your grandfather into enforcing the family discipline! Hurry back for the show!”

She was positively elated today.

Keep hitting

Clang! Exhausted, Warren dropped the willow cane aside.

Howard’s back was all in blood, his white shirt soaked in red. His face was ghostly white, his fingers gripping the sides of the wheelchair tightly. Gwendolyn also bore wounds, yet she seemed to fare much better.

Howard tucked the declaration of disownment into his inner pocket.

He mustered the strength and said, “Your illness seems to have worsened, barely enough strength to hit someone.”

You” Warren nearly passed out with rage.

“If someone could cure your cold affliction one day, what would you be willing to pay?” Howard asked gravely.

He intended to collect some interest for Gwendolyn’s suffering today.

Regaining his composure, Warren said, “A generous reward. They’d be honored guests.”

“And what if it meant having your pride, Bainbridge and his parents, bow and scrape?” Howard pressed on.

“Of course they have to! It’s only right they kneel for their elder’s well–being.”

“Remember your words,” Howard said, taking Gwendolyn’s hand. “Let’s go.”

“Yes.”

Warren coughed in anger. “Once you leave… cough… don’t ever come back!”

Gwendolyn pushed Howard’s wheelchair, their progress deliberate and steady. She saw Howard in a new light. He was proud and principled, a man of integrity and compassion.

He was full of passion, full of life.

As they exited the living room, the Chadwick family was all there.

Flaunting her bright red nails, Farrah taunted, “Our family hasn’t seen an ungrateful child in decades. Howard, you sure are clueless.”

Jarvis hypocritically added, “We’re all family. Why be so rash?”

Bainbridge was inwardly thrilled, gloating. “You’ve dug your own grave! All this over a measly 5% stake? Do you think it’s worth your life? Next month is Grandpa’s 70th birthday, and the Summit Corp founder will be there for a double celebration! Howard, this grand event has nothing to do with you anymore! From now on, I’m a Bayridge City elite, and you’re a family outcast, a commoner! We’re worlds apart!” Bainbridge raised his voice. “I have ways to destroy
