Chapter 15

I hear Erin wail.

“What do you mean, he’s not here?” I ask suspiciously, speed-walking out of the room.

“I mean he’s not here.” Luana says, tightly folding her wings. “He left. I don’t know where.”

“He - He made macaroni and then left!” Erin cried.

“Why would he leave?” I ask.

Luana shrugged. “No idea.”

I stared around the hall. “Well, we gotta go and find him! He could be anywhere!”

“We could try the front door, maybe he stepped out for a moment!” Erin threw herself around the corner and out the door. Luana and I waited for another wail.

“He’s not there!” Erin wailed.

“If he left without saying anything, he wouldn’t be standing on the porch, Erin.” Luana rolled her eyes.

“I do not have the patience for your sass right now, Luana!” Erin exclaimed. Luana looked at her with surprise.

“I’m going to go look for Grayson,” I say, grabbing a jacket even though it’s most likely warm out today.

“He could have made it out of Sunmervalley by now,” Luana inturrupts me.

“Why would he leave Sunmervalley?” Erin asks. “He wouldn’t leave us.”

“He did already,” Luana says.

Why would Grayson leave Summervalley? Surely he’s still in this town. What would he leave for?

“Maybe he just went to a grocery store for some ketchup?” Erin asks.

“We have ketchup.” Luana says from inside the pantry.

“You don’t have any ideas!” Erin snaps.

“Yeah I do. He left to go to hell and save Lora.” Luana snaps her fingers.

“Why would he do that by himself?” Erin scoffs.

“He didn’t want any of us to get hurt.” Luana shrugs. “He thinks he can do it himself.”

“How can he do it himself? He’s just a human! He needs a hybrid’s help and a centaur’s help!” Erin argues, as if proving Luana wrong will bring Grayson home.

“What, you don’t think he’d need ny help too?” Luana asks. “I’m not arguing with you, Erin. We’ll waste time that way. We have to find him.”

“He wouldn’t leave without us!” Erin exclaims, her voice reaching a desperate tone.

I spot a white square on the counter next to an empty pot. Frowning, I go over to it.

“You don’t know he wouldn’t,” Luana shrugs.

“I’ve known him since first grade!” Erin says shrilly.

Tell Erin not to worry. I know she will anyways, but at least I can say I tried. You miss Lora. We’re not doing anything to save her. Well, you guys aren’t. I’m going to hell. Luana said that the spot where Lora was kidnapped would be the weakest. I’m going to save her. Please don’t follow me, I know what I’m doing and I’d feel better knowing you’re at home right now. I know what I’m doing, so please stay home. I left my phone so don’t try calling me or searching for my location, by the time you read this it’s probably too late.

“Erin - Erin, I’m not fighting you.”

I turn and see the two. Luana’s holding Erin away by her forhead as Erin leans forward and attempts to punch Luana’s stomah weakly.

“Guys, stop.” I say. Luana waits for Erin to stop and then lets go - Erin punches Luana’s stomach and then folds her arms. Luana doesn’t even flinch.

I wave the note. “Luana’s right.”

“Lemme see that!” Erin snatches the note and scans it. She goes a little limp. “It’s his handwriting. I can’t believe it - he actually left us.”

Luana awkwardly pats Erin’s shoulder. I could tell from her face that she was using all her self-control not to say ‘I-told-you-so.’

I grab my jacket again and walk out of the door.

“Hold up Ludi!” Erin seizes my elbow quickly. “We’re all going!”

“Then come on!” I say impatiently, and yank myself out of her grip by snapping my wings out.

Luana flies out of the door and Erin chases after her. I curse under my breath. “Wait for me…!”
