Chapter 6

(Her)

I’m feeling sleepy. It’s my sixth day here and time is not flying at all like it normally does. I spent the all-day hearing complaints from the pack’s member and trying to find a solution. It goes to a tree that is growing in between two houses – one of the owners wants to cut it when the other wants to keep – to two neighbors that can’t stand each other. After half an hour, I learned they were high-school lovers and when she met her mates she ended up their relationship abruptly when he was hoping to stay friend because she was a big part of his life. The fact they started to speak the truth in the Alpha’s office is a good start but it’s a long way and maybe it will be more simple for one on them to move.

“You are good at that. I mean you are a good mediator.” Says Alpha Franck looking at me with narrow.

 “ Don’t be so surprised!” I’m kind of feeling offended. I may not be a werewolf but what I’m supposed to be a bummer.

“You should accept the compliment little girl!” He says to be with disapproval. “ What I mean is you are patient. You see through them easily and you win their trust quickly. You help a lot of people today Anna-Lynn. You behave as a Luna should.” He finished his eyes full of questions.


I don’t what he is expecting me to say. I’m an analytical person so I’m good to read between the lines. I’m a smart person and my degree in psychology might also help me. Who knows, I studied psychology like a hobby a few years ago but it’s really helping now. I was already good to see thought people words before, now I’m even better.

“I don’t know what you want me to say.”

“You’re not surprised by anything. Your questions are clever. You clearly know how to run a pack. I’m looking at you working for 6 days now and you are natural. It looks like you did it that all your life. So I don’t think this is new for you.”

“Did you hear about a pack with a human Luna. I don’t think so. As you like to remind me, It’s not possible to lead a pack without a wolf.”

“How did you meet those Alphas who were there a week ago? What are you for them? How did you know about Alpha Markus?”


“Alpha Ezra and I have a common friend. Alpha Chris and Alpha Darius, I met them when I crossed their borders a few years ago. As for Alpha Markus, a friend advised me about him. I didn’t do anything wrong and I have nothing to hide!”

“Still you are a mystery. You went missing for 9 years and we are not able to find anything about you. And it even starts before you left! I didn’t go to school your parents registered you! So tell me Anna-Lynn. Why are you here? Are you looking for revenge? For another chance? I don’t know what you will win form all of this and I don’t like it.”

 “Missing really? It’s not as you tried to look at me! There is a difference between hiding and not wanting to share! You don’t deserve to know! As for Alpha Markus, you have no idea how dangerous he is! You have no idea what will be the consequences if he kills your sons!”

“Still, what happens to Liam is not your concern.”

“You’re right!” I say getting up ready to leave, wanted to end this discussion. I can’t stop myself before whispering: “ I’m more worry about your other son.” 


I’m going home, I don’t want to stay here anymore. Home... I miss it. At least Collin and Harper make that easier. When I arrive they are playing together. It’s a beautiful sight to see, bonding time between a daughter and her father. He is a good father and I don’t even know if he realized that.

“ Hey, I didn’t hear you. How long have you been here?”

“Hey, I just arrived. She is a lucky girl!”


“You are here earlier. How was your day?”


“Boring. I had an argument with Alpha Franck?”

“You want to talk about it.”

“No. it’s not important. Can I hug Harper for a while?”

“I don’t know.” He said with a genius smile.

“ Name your price.”

“I’m hungry...”

“Hum... I see, what about a Ficelle Picarde and a Soufflé au Chocolat?”

“I have no idea what is that but if it’s as good as every day, we have a deal!” He passes me Harper.

“ Hello, Angel. I miss you! A ficelle picarde is a creps with Ham, mushroom, and cheese and Soufflé au Chocolat is a chocolate cake.”

“Yummy, sound perfect!”

“Actually, there is a market in the next village every Thursday and I would like to go before dinner. Do you want to come? Or maybe you have to come as you are watching me? I don’t know.”

“ You will outside the pack territory so I don’t have too. But I would like to come.” He says

“ Perfect, let me take a shower and we could go. Don’t worry about Harper I have babysat in my car.”

Suddenly, Collin has an absence. Someone is mind-linking him. His face changes and shows worries.



“What’s going on? Is there a problem” I ask him.

“Kaiden, Aiden’s son is missing.”

“ What happens? Since when? Let me help you.”

“No, I need you to watch Harper for me. I don’t trust anybody here with her. Thanks!” He says, starting to run before turning into his wolf.

Collin left 2 hours already. I really hope they find Kaiden and he is fine. He isn’t even 5 years old and outside it’s getting dark...Oh I give up, I can’t take it anymore, I want - no I need - to help. What’s about Harper. I can do both. I will start with my car, she will sleep for sure. Babies always sleep in the car, right?

Suddenly while I’m preparing Harper’s bag, I hear someone knocking. Who that could be? I don’t recognize that smell. It’s not Collin, he is not knocking anymore as he lives here. As I open the doors, I’m surprised to find a little boy. He looked just like his father, except the hair color.

“Goddess Kaiden, are you fine? Everybody is looking for you. Come in, please.”

He doesn’t say anything while I guided him in the salon. He is freezing so I roll him in a blanket.

“Do you want a hot chocolate, little man?”

“Mama says I can’t before dinner?”

“Your mama is right but it will help you to warm up. Are you hungry?”

He just nods. He is not a speaker...

“Ok, I will cook you pasta with bolognese sauce.” I still have sauce from lunch and Duncan loves it so maybe he will too.

The first thing I do when I’m in the kitchen is to send a message to Alpha Franck to inform him that Kaiden is here. It’s the only number I have. I also have Collin’s phone but he left his phone here. Well, it’s not as he can take it in wolf form anyway. When I turn around, Kaiden is looking at me in the kitchen entry.

“You can seat, while I warm up the sauce. Let me find a pillow for you. It will be more comfortable.”

Not a speaker at all!

“Your parents should be here soon.”

“You are my auntie.”

“I don’t think I’m.” I tell him honestly.

“But you are daddy’s sister.”

“Daddy said the same thing. So who are you?”

“Sorry I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Anna-Lynn but my friends call me Lilly. It’s really nice to meet you, little man.”

“Saturday is my birthday..” he answers me.

“You will be 5. It’s a big date. You will meet your wolf. Lucky you!” I say serving is the pasta.

“Thank you.” He says starting eating.

He is looking at me so intensively that I don’t know what to do. I don’t even dare to move. Why his parents are not here yet???

“What if I’m like you? When mama was pregnant with my little sister, daddy and grandma were always speaking about your disability. They are afraid she will be like you. Tom says he was feeling something changing in him a long time before his birthday. But I don’t feel anything. I don’t want to be like you. Mama says there is nothing wrong with being human. But last time daddy said it’s a shame to have a human sister.”

Here we are. I don’t think he gets lost. He is here on purpose. He is too young to worry about that.

“This is why you are here? How did you know where to go?”

“I heard grandma speaking with Luna Marie about how Uncle Collin was not a good spy even if it should be simple as you are sharing the same roof. So I followed his smell.”

He is a clever little boy! Collin already told me that Liam asked him to report anything he can learn about me. He even told me to not telling things that Liam can use against me.

“What’s wrong with you? Why are you so meanie?” He asks me when I don’t say anything.

“Nothing is wrong with me! And I’m not mean.”

“Are you sure because they all say you are a bad person that we should avoid. And since Collin lives with you, he doesn’t speak to anyone anymore.”

“Do I look mean to you? Nothing is wrong with me. I may not have a wolf but it’s alright. I’m proud of what I’m and nobody will change that!” Anymore I add to myself.

“I will be the Beta, I need a wolf. I don’t want to disappoint everyone.”

“You know what I see when I look at you?”

He shakes his head.

“I see a beautiful, healthy boy. You are really smart which is good almost all the time and a few times as today it’s not because you’re overthinking. I see a young man who will grow in a strong wolf. I would be proud to have a son like you! Moreover, you followed Collin’s smell to come here. You were using your wolf’s sense. He is already here even if you aren’t feeling him yet.”

“I like you. Can you be my auntie even if you are not family?”

“I will be whatever you want me to be. I like you too.” I say smiling.

He hugs me and whispers: “Can I come live with you if I don’t have a wolf. I don’t want to be alone.”

“Sure little man. Don’t be scare you will never be alone.” I say hugging him back.

It’s like that Aiden found us. I can see relieved in his eyes when he sees that Kaiden is safe but it turns in rage when he sees our position.

“Don’t you dare touch my pup! Don’t you dare speak to him! You are nothing to him, Nothing!” His voice is full of hate.

“But daddy she is nice.”

“Stay out of this Kaiden, it’s a discussion between adults!” Says Aiden sternly.

Elena enters when she sees Kaiden she let out a long breathe and run toward him.

“Hey baby, I was so worried.” She says hugging him

“Sorry mama, I just wanted to see auntie Lilly!”

“AUNTIE LILLY! What the f... Can you take him and leave, please! Aiden asks Elena.

She nods and they leave. No thank you, No goodbye... At the same time, Aiden’s wolf is on the verge to take control, so she knows it’s better to follow his order.

“Aiden, I didn’t do anything wr-“

“It’s Beta for you! Why did you kidnap him? What do you want? Turn him against us!”

“I didn’t take him! I found him in front of my door.”

“I don’t believe you. Kaiden will never leave on his own will!”

“Think a little Beta! If I had Kidnaped him, Collin would have seen him!”

“She is right Aiden, I would have seen him. I was here when she came home.” Says Collin walking toward us. He is in a defensive posture, ready to take action if necessary.

“I don’t trust you. Next time I see you close to MY family, I kill you. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Beta Aiden!” He is really pissing me off.

Like that he left. Here I am in my kitchen which an empty pasta plate to prove all of this really happened. I wish I know why I did wrong for them to always assume the worst. 


“Sorry about that. I know you did do anything.”



“Thanks, Collin.”

I try to smile but fail to hide my sadness.

Something is feeling off today. It’s like something bad is going to happen, sending shivers down to my spine. I can’t focus on anything. It has been like that for the last 2 hours... Maybe it’s nothing but I don’t think so, my instincts are sharp, very sharp.

“Okay, What going on?” Alpha Franck asks me.

“I don’t feel well. My Uhm... My instincts tell me something bad is going to happen today. They never failed me so I learned to follow them.”

”What instincts?” He says almost mocking me “ You are not a werewolf and I never heard humans have strong instincts.”

 “I know I’m not a wolf, you don’t need to remind me every chance you have! Both my spw... parents ( I’m correcting myself) are werewolves. I’m faster, stronger and I have a better view and smell than anybody else even-”



”Still it’s nothing in comparison with werewolf’s senses” He cuts me.

“if you say so...” I mutter.

Let’s keep going with the archives. A few minutes later a wave of panic runs through me. No, this is really not good. I stand up and start to run. I hear Alpha Franck following me. When I’m outside the packhouse, I close my eyes to focus on where I should go…

“Where are you going?” Alpha Franck asks me.

“South! The waterfalls.” I answer him before starting to run again.

I don’t have time to say more. He starts to run after me. When I arrive at the falls, I stop again to focus. When he arrives I see Alpha Franck tenses. Yeah, he smells it too... Rogues. Suddenly I sense something on my left. I follow my instincts, ready to fight. I hear Alpha Franck screaming after me that I should stay here and wait for the warriors. Hell no, it could be too late!

In the middle of a clearing, there are 3 girls around 14, 15 maximum surrounded by 4 rogues in their wolf forms. They have no shame to attack young girls who can’t shift yet! Werewolves receive there at 5 and shift at 16. I feel my twin Sai (it’s Japanese weapon) ready to tear out my pants. Too by I liked it.

“ Don’t you have no shame to attack defenseless girls. You could at least choose a worthy enemy!” I make my presence known.

One of the rogue shifts back in his Human form: “Well, Well, Well... What do we have here? The one who everybody is talking about. The one who wants to play Luna when she doesn’t have a wolf. You should go before you get killed.”

“I may not have a wolf but that will not stop me to kill you!”

I say tacking out my Twin Sai out and throw one of it to him. He receives it on his ribs and screams out on the pain. The nearest wolf to me snarls and jumps at me. Before he has time to react, I go down and stab him in his heart. He is dead when he falls. Alpha Franck is in his wolf form killing the third rogue while I start to walk toward the first one, to finish the job. The forth rogue tries to run away. I throw one of my Sai, he receives it on the leg. Alpha Franck kills him.

“Be careful with the Sai, it’s silver.” I inform him. I see he goes behind a three, he doesn’t want to shift in front of me and the girls.

“ Are you hurt?” They all shake their heads to chock to speak.

“How did you know they were here. I smelt the rogues when we were 1 mile away from here. You... you knew from the packhouse?” Asks Alpha Franck running back to me.

“I have an empathic gift, I can feel extreme emotion and danger around me. And As you already notice now I have the speed and the strength of a werewolf even if I am not one.”

He nods: “ Is that what Alpha Darius wanted to say when he said you weren’t only gifted with beauty?”

“Something like that.”

“Do you have other wolf sense or another gift?”

Before I can answer the warriors arrive. He is looking at me his eyes full of questions. When Jake arrives I reprimand him about the fact he doesn’t want to change the patrol rotation. They can keep their system, they just need to not follow always the same order. One thing is sure, we need to find how those rogues entered the pack territory without being noticed.

We are back in the office. We didn’t speak more he was too busy to mind-link everybody, about what just happened. I stopped by my car before to back to work to change my pants. There is a pack meeting in 45 minutes.

“Where do you hide your weapons?” He asked when I close the doors.

“My twin sai? They are on my thighs.”

“Impossible! They are too big.”

“They are enchanted weapons. When I not using it. It’s only a tattoo on my skin. One of my friends, a witch enchanted them.”

“Do you have more?”

“Yes. I have a Masai spear.”

“How did you learn to fight?”

“No thanks to you! I start to take self-defense lessons after I was kid- when I was 10. But I really learned with Alpha Constantinos in Crete. He is the one who gave me the key to Kill a wolf when you are not one.”

Suddenly, the phone rings. I putting it on speaker.

“Alpha Liam office.”

“You’re not Luna Nora.” Says a male voice.

“ No, I’m Anna-Lynn. I hear to help for the next month. Who are you and how can I help you?”

“ I’m Alpha David from the Dark Blood pack. We are neighbor and I’m a friend of Liam. Can I speak with him or with Luna Nora, please?” I look to Alpha Franck, questioning him if it’s true. He nods.

“They both aren’t available right now. Do you want me to take a message?”

“ I imagine they are busy right now. Make sense with the attack you had a few hours ago.”

“ How do you know about the attack?”

“Our pack members are close. My Omega informed me a few minutes ago. I just wanted to know if everything was fine and if you need help. I know the waterfalls it’s the place where your teens like to meet. This is crazy those rogues dare to strike there. They have no shame.”

I cut the microphone’s phone.

“ What did you say when you were mind-linking and to who?” I ask Alpha Franck.

“I was speaking with Liam and Aiden. And Liam only says we were attacked and there will be a pack meeting at 5:00. Why?”

“I don’t trust that Alpha. He knows too much.”

“Are you still there?” Asks Alpha David. I turn on the microphone.

“ Sorry, someone mind-linked me.” I lied and I heard him laugh. “ Yes the rogues were taking care and nobody was injured.”

“ You killed the five, I mean the four rogues?”

“Yes, they are all dead. You look well-informed Alpha David.” I accuse him.

“ What do you try to imply here?” He answers aggressively.

“ With who your Omega spoke to know to have all this information.”

“Who are you? Your Alpha needs to teach you respect, I will make sure of this!”

“I am Anna-Lynn, don’t forget my name this time, please. Just in case you forget that too, helping rogues against another pack is an act of war.”

“I will pay for that, you bitch!” He says hanging up.

“We will see about that...” I’m whispering to myself.

“You’re right he knows too much. But accusing him to work with rogues without any proofs was disrespectful. You need to watch your mouth when you are speaking with an Alpha.”

“I’m not a wolf so I don’t feel the power of alphas and I’m not afraid of them.” I say. I’m trying hard to not roll my eyes, I don’t want this speech lasting more longer.

“You are too confident for your own good. It will get you kill.” As if...

“If you say so...” I whisper.
