Mikayla was awash in embarrassment. She wasn’t worried about others discovering her plan to divorce, but she didn’t want to ruin the mood. It was the last thing she’d want to do on Wanda’s birthday.

“You’re supposed to help them patch things up. How could you say that?” Wanda scolded.

“Kay, ignore him. He’s just as annoying as always, Wanda interrupted. 

Zachary didn’t dare to refute Wanda. He remained silent, but his expression grew sullen. 

“Matilda, we’re still young. We haven’t started planning for a child yet,” Jerome said. 

Awkwardness hung in the air after the minor disturbance earlier, but Matilda was unyielding. 

“Then start planning now! Jerome, you’re 27. You’re not that young anymore.” 

Jerome glanced over at Mikayla. He replied calmly, “It’s up to Kay to decide.” 

“Kay loves you a lot. She’ll gladly comply if you intend to have a child-* 

“Aunt Matilda, it’s Grandma’s birthday today. She’s supposed to be the center of attention bringing up something unrelated?” Mikayla cut her off with a reminder.

“Unrelated?” Matilda challenged presumptuously. “I’m doing this for Mrs. Miller Senior’s sake as well. Why 

wouldn’t she want a grandchild?” 

Wanda 

chuckled and replied, “Kay didn’t marry Jerome just to bear children. I don’t think they should rush 

this. Just go with the flow.” 

Matilda swallowed her words. 

A rush of warmth filled Mikayla’s chest as she marveled at Wanda’s empathy. 

The guests began to leave after the banquet was over. 

Matilda dragged Mikayla to the side before she left. “Why did Zachary say you’re filing for a divorce? Where did he hear about it?” 

“I told him,” Mikayla said.

“How dare you!” Matilda was furious. “Haven’t you pissed us off enough already?” 

Mikayla was exasperated at the thought of Matilda pestering her incessantly about the divorce. Worried that she might complain to Wanda, she recomposed herself and coaxed, “Fine, fine! I wasn’t in my right. mind. I was just mad. Hurry up and leave now!” 

Perhaps the portrayal of Mikayla’s love for Jerome had deeply ingrained itself in Matilda’s heart, so she didn’t doubt her words. After a warning and Louisa’s appearance, she soon left. 

Louisa waved her phone at Mikayla, trying to remind her of her favor. 

Mikayla realized Jerome was waiting for her after she sent them off. 

“Did Matilda cause you any trouble?” he asked. 

“She wouldn’t, not as long as Grandpa’s around. 

“Oh yeah, you mentioned that you have a friend in Aveloria who’s familiar with design schools. Louisa asked if you could introduce her to him.” 

Jerome didn’t ask any further. Instead, he called his friend right away.
