Davina sat in the guest bedroom for the remainder of the day. She had a bathroom in her room that she could use. Tea sat on the coffee table in the seating area of the room so she wouldn’t be thirsty. And she hardly ate much as it was so that wasn’t an issue for her either. She sighed tiredly. She wanted to be at her own place; a one bedroom apartment Victor paid for. When she arrived in Pennsylvania, she didn’t like the idea of staying in the family home with everybody else. She didn’t mind getting to know them, but she preferred being by herself. So, Victor graciously offered to pay for one. It was small, but perfect for her. She was comfortable there, but it wasn’t home to her. She hadn’t felt at home in a long time, and accepted a long time ago that it’s likely she never would again. It didn’t bother her like it used to. A faint knock was heard at the door. Davina sat up in her bed, scooting further down to get a better view of the door.

“Come in.” Davina said. After a moment, the door opened to reveal Eloise. She stood at the door frame, her hands folded in front of her.

“You’ve been requested to join the king and a few others for dinner in the dining hall.” Eloise said. Davina frowned, wondering why she had been requested to join.

“The king asked that you dress accordingly.” Eloise said before Davina stood up from the bed.

“I changed out of the short maids uniform. What I’m wearing is an improvement, I’d say.” Davina said as she approached her. Eloise looked down, examining her outfit. She wore leggings and a baggy, worn out sweatshirt that hung off her shoulder. Eloise looked up at her with an unsure look on her face. She shook her head and sighed before entering the room. She walked over to the closet, pulling the double doors open and looking inside. She pushed a few outfits out of the way before finding a certain one. She pulled it out and set it down on the bed. Davina walked over, looking down at what laid in front of her. Davina turned to her with an unsure look on her face as she eyed the satin green gown. She hadn’t realized it was that kind of event. Davina had no problem with dressing up, she just never had to wear something so elegant before. She sighed as she picked up the dress, taking it off of the hanger. She went to the bathroom, changing into the gown before stepping out. Eloise gasped as Davina came into sight.

“It’s a little snug, but it’s beautiful. Compliments your hips.” Eloise said. The dress had a slit running up the leg, leading up her upper thigh. The dress did indeed compliment her hips. Her curves were much more apparent in the dress. The tightness of the dress also did a nice job at accentuating her large chest. Davina curled her lip up, feeling a little uncomfortable. It was way out of her comfort zone, but she couldn’t deny that Eloise did a nice job at picking out a dress. Eloise reached behind, taking her hair out of it’s ponytail. She pulled the hair forward, wincing as she saw. She ran over to the vanity, pulling out a hairbrush.

“We’ll have to do this quickly. Come sit.” Eloise said. Davina hesitantly went and allowed Eloise to sit her down in the chair. Eloise pulled out a hair dryer as well and began to work her magic. Eloise remembered what it was like in her time. She remembered getting her hair done this way, not knowing how to work curlers or an iron. She preferred it much more considering it gave her thin hair volume. Eloise finished in less than five minutes. She pulled a bag out of the drawer, pouring out the contents. Davina turned in her chair, seeing what had been in the bag. She groaned when she realized it was makeup. She wondered for a moment why Dean included such stuff in a guest bedroom. Eloise quickly applied some blush, mascara, and a nude lipstick before pulling her out of her seat and turning her to face the mirror. Davina examined herself, feeling rather impressed with Eloise’s skills. She turned, forgetting Eloise was there to see how she looked from the back. Her jaw dropped as she saw how she looked. Eloise giggled, gaining the attention of Davina.

“My, I remember what it was like having something to look at back there. It’s just depressing doing so now.” Eloise said, making the both of them laugh.

“It’s time, my dear.” Eloise said, taking her by the hand and leading her out of the room. They entered the elevator, soon making it to the first floor.

“Down the hall, make two rights, dear.” Eloise said, handing her some black heels. Davina gave her a small smile and took them before heading that way. She nervously cracked her knuckles as she made her way, unsure of what she was coming up on. She could hear laughter echoing down the halls, becoming louder the closer she got. She peeked her head around the door frame, seeing a full table. Some she didn’t recognize. She could see Dean at the head of the table, Lucian and Catrice sitting to the left of him. And though their backs were facing her, she could see Jackson and Charlie. She wondered what would happen if she just retreated, if anybody would notice she wasn’t attending. She then saw the free space next to Charlie, assuming it was for her. It was in the middle of the table. She knew she couldn’t go unnoticed. She sighed before feeling something placed on her back side, shoving her forcefully. Davina emitted a noise as she went forward. She steadied herself before she fell. She noticed how quiet the room became. She almost didn’t want to turn because she knew what she’d find when she did. She shut her eyes and took a deep breath before opening them and turning to her left. Just as she had thought, the entire room was now staring at her. She heard a giggle, making her turn to the direction where she had been pushed. She saw Eloise with her hand clasped over her mouth. Davina’s eyes went wide. She felt betrayed by the woman she had grown fond of in the short time she had been here.

“Oh, hurry up and join us, Vina! I saved a spot for you next to me.” Charlie said. Davina turned back, finding everybody’s eyes on her except for Charlie. She squinted at Charlie, realizing he used a nickname for her that she wasn’t fond of. He sat, digging into his first course item, unaware of the look on her face. Davina quickly slipped on her heels before entering the room. She went to pull out her chair when someone beat her to it. She turned to see a tall man in a nice suit. Davina quietly thanked him before sitting down in the chair, feeling him push it in. She kept her eyes on the table, knowing everybody still had their eyes on her. She then finally looked up, looking at all of them.

“What?” Davina asked.

“Oh, I was just waiting for some bratty comment.” Catrice said, taking a sip of her red drink. Davina eyed it, hoping it was wine, but knowing it was really blood. She hated that they did it so openly around her. It made her uncomfortable.

“Well, when one of you give me a reason to, I will.” Davina replied, raising a brow at her. Charlie laughed amused.

“That’s the Vina I wanted you all to meet.” Charlie muttered clear enough for only Davina to hear, making her squint at him once more. She contemplated hitting him, but knew it’d stir something up.

“This is Davina. She is a guest here for tonight and probably tomorrow night as well.” Dean said. Davina looked over to the unfamiliar individuals sitting at the table. Dean listed them off as she examined them. To the right of Lucian and Catrice was Sasha and Brayden. Dean explained the two were a married couple that were the main scientists within the compound. Sasha was formally a witch before giving up that life to be with Brayden. Despite her now being a beast, some abilities she still did possess, but not as much as before. She had medium length brown hair and cocoa skin. Her eyes were light brown and her skin didn’t have any tattoos like the other beasts she had seen. Brayden was like the other male beasts. He was covered from his neck down in tattoos. She could see the tattoos lacing his arms. He had short black hair and piercing blue eyes. She mentally cursed beasts once again in her head for being so attractive. Dean then introduced the two who sat the right of Davina. The individual to her immediate right was Xavier. He had blonde hair and tan skin, as well as a birthmark above his eyebrow. He had fewer tattoos than the others and worked as one of the guards of the compound. To his left sat someone Davina actually recognized. The scowl on her face gave it away. Marina glowered at her. Her perfectly red lips curled up in disgust. She flipped her blonde curls over her shoulder, turning away but sat with her arms crossed. Davina’s eyes went to Catrice who was already looking at her. She squinted at her. And you think of me bratty, Davina thought. Catrice’s eyes slightly widened, unaware that she could read her mind. Davina turned away, directing her attention over to Dean. Catrice tried entering Davina’s mind once more, finding that she couldn’t. She wondered how she could just then. She knew she’d have to tell Dean about it later.

“So, why’d you call me down here?” Davina asked leaning back in her chair and folding her arms over her chest. Catrice eyed her up and down. Davina noticed this and turned to her.

“What?” Davina spat.

“Perhaps you should tell your guest to sit properly in her chair, Dean.” Marina said. Davina turned her way, quirking her brow at her.

“You’d think one who know how to sit in a chair the right way.” Marina muttered.

“I’d have to care first.” Davina said loud and clear. Brayden snorted, almost spitting out his soup. He covered his mouth and coughed as a way to cover his snort before returning to normal, hoping he wouldn’t get scolded later for his outburst.

“My gosh, Dean! Why the hell did you even invite her if she was going to be like this? She shouldn’t talk to me or any of us this way!” Marina shouted.

“So long as it’s directed towards you, I couldn’t give a single fuck. And I think I speak for everyone when I say that.” Charlie said before stuffing his spoon into his mouth. Marina scoffed and turned away, sipping on her glass of blood as she pouted.

“So, Davina. How was your first day here?” Sasha asked as she blew softly on her soup.

“Aside from the fact that I got thrown against a wall early in the morning, it’s been wonderful.” Davina responded. Dean frowned at Davina. She eyed him for a moment, her eyes trailing to Jackson who sat beside him. He didn’t seem to care. He sipped on his glass of blood, not paying attention to anyone or anything.

“Who was the lucky gent who got to explore you this morning?” Charlie asked. Davina’s eyes widened as she turned to him, as did the rest of the room.

“I am so curious as to how your mind works.” Davina said, shaking her head at him.

“So, Dean here tells us you work for the organization. What other kinds of supernatural’s do you have on file?” Brayden asked, making Davina’s head turn back.

“Or do you only hunt our kind?” Xavier asked, sounding a little judgmental, though she didn’t mind much.

“We have no other’s on file. We didn’t know there were more until the other day.” Davina answered.

“And what do you think of that?” Brayden asked.

“Not much.” Davina answered simply.

“Why’s that?” Charlie inquired.

“Because, I don’t believe there is anything else out there.” Davina replied, making all heads turn her way.

“We’ve told you about them, Vina.” Charlie said a little in disbelief. Davina eyed him, not fond that he was still using the nickname for her.

“Yeah, and parents tell you about some fucking fairy that comes by in the night to take your teeth and give you money in return. I grew up somewhat religious so I can believe in Angels and Demons, but all that other shit I cannot. I mean, the organization has been around for decades. You’d think they’d have something documented about there being other supernatural beings. Unless, I work with dumbasses, of course. I’ll believe it when I see it.” Davina stated. Sasha quirked a brow at her. After a moment, a loud boom sound could be heard from outside. All turned to the window as the sky lit up with different colors.

“Someone got into the fireworks again.” Lucian said, sighing afterwards.

“Oh, let’s go watch them!” Brayden exclaimed. Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“They do look rather beautiful.” Catrice said as she stood with the others, making their way outside from the balcony. Both Dean and Davina remained in their spot, not caring about seeing some fireworks. Davina felt his eyes on her, making her turn her head. Davina was stuck, she couldn’t take her eyes off of his. His gaze was much too intense. She felt she had to, like she was being compelled by them.

“You know, I’ve been nothing but kind and fair to you since you arrived. Even after everything you did. And yet, you still sass and disrespect me.” Dean said. Davina scoffed, shaking her head.

“You don’t remember the night we officially met? You yelled at me in your office, called me ‘darling’ to degrade me.” Davina said, shaking her head as she stood up to exit the room. As she went to walk past Dean, his hand wrapped around her wrist, keeping her from leaving. He stood up from his chair, turning her to face her. She looked up into his eyes, getting caught once more in his intense gaze.

“You’ve been far more degrading than I have. And I let it slide.. like Jackson said.” Dean said. Davina frowned at him, wondering how he had known about what Jackson had said. Dean lowered his head towards hers, keeping the intense gaze. Davina felt her chest rising and her breathing becoming more uncontrollable. Dean’s eyes trailed down to her chest before returning to where it was before.

“And do you know how it felt.. knowing his hands were around your neck before mine ever got the privilege?” Dean said, his breathing now becoming unsteady as well. Davina’s eyes widened at what he said, not believing the words came out of his mouth. All of a sudden, Dean’s lips were on hers. She didn’t hesitate to kiss him back with as much intensity as he did. Her hands found the back of his head. She ran her fingers through it, tugging on whatever strand she could. Her lower half pressed into him, making him moan. He quickly pushed everything in the way off of the table before lifting her up onto it. His hands rested on her back, scratching at the material, wanting to get rid of it. Dean ran his fingers up the slit of the dress before ripping it further up, revealing herself to him. She sucked, bit, and pulled on his lip as he began to fondle one of her clothed breasts. She moaned out as he slipped his hand underneath the clothing. His thumb ran across the hardened nipple, pulling and teasing it. She detached her lips from his as she breathed out heavily. Dean began kissing and sucking down her jawline to her neck. She panted heavily as she pressed her hips up to his, letting him know what she wanted. His hand instantly left her breast and went down to her lacy underwear. He palmed her through the clothing, making her groan in frustration.

“Give me what I want.” Davina breathed out. Dean pulled away, looking into her eyes, his darkening at her command, the dominant part of him taking full control. His hand then wrapped around her throat, squeezing only slightly.

“That’s now how this works, darling.” Dean said, shaking his head as he pulled her off of the table, pushing her down onto her knees. He then unzipped his dress pants, pulling them down as she watched intently. She bit her lip before letting her hands rest on his hips. Davina could hear her name being called a few times. She finally turned her head, first finding Dean’s face as he sat at the head of the table where he was before, making her frown.

“That’s twice in one day we’ve found you zoned out.” Charlie chuckled. Davina looked around seeing everybody still sat at the table. She looked outside, seeing the night sky hadn’t been lit up with colorful fireworks. Her eyes then drifted over to Sasha who had a knowing smirk on her face. Davina’s eyes widened only slightly as she realized what had happened. Sasha made her see something that wasn’t real. She stared at Sasha in shock and amazement as servers flooded the room with the main course for the night.

“Why are your cheeks so red all of a sudden?” Catrice asked. Davina looked over to her feeling a little out of breath. She could’ve sworn that it was actually happening. That it was her reality.

“Damn girl, drink your water.” Charlie said. Davina quickly turned and grabbed the water off of the table, downing it. Brayden smirked.

“What’d you see?” Brayden asked, knowing exactly what had happened. Davina only shook her head, knowing she could never tell what she saw, what she imagined. She looked over to the side of the table where she just sat. Dean sat there curiously. It bugged him that he couldn’t see into her mind. If he had the ability to do so, he wouldn’t enter it at all. He wondered what made her so special, what made her so untouchable. Jackson abruptly stood up from his chair, not bothering to push it in and exit the room.

“What’s got him in such a bad mood?” Catrice asked.

“Unsure, he’s been rather moody all day. Perhaps his morning started off wrong.” Charlie suggested. Davina’s mind drifted back to the morning time, what she had done. She didn’t want to admit it, but what she did was a little rude. Not as much what she said, but waking him when he clearly didn’t want to be woken up. She thought it was strange considering she knew beasts didn’t actually need sleep. Nonetheless, it was rude. She stood up from her chair, pushing it in, making everyone’s eyes go to her.

“I’ll be back.” Davina said as she went to exit the same way Jackson did. She was stopped by a hand wrapped around her wrist, making her head turn. Dean looked up at her from in his chair. He looked over at the doorway before returning his sight to her.

“Be careful. It’s Friday, the beasts get a little wild and crazy since there are less responsibilities to tend to.” Dean said. Davina nodded, letting Dean remove his hand from her wrist. She then made her way out of the room, wondering what direction she needed to turn in order to find Jackson. She shrugged her shoulders before turning right and heading down the hall in that direction. She eventually found large windows leading to a door that lead to the outside. She sighed. I’m already on this path, might as well find out what’s this way, Davina thought as she went to open the door. She opened it to reveal a garden. She could clearly see nobody in it but looked beyond the garden and further into the compound. She decided to head that way and see if she could find Jackson that way. She descended from the steps and began to walk across the garden lit with warm fairy lights, soon exiting it and making it to the pavement. Many large houses surrounded the large mansion. She figured she wouldn’t find Jackson in one of them, but did happen to see a forest not far from the compound. She began to head to the back gates, finding no one there. She freely exited and began to walk through the dark forest. She felt a chill, making her hold her arms in attempt to shield herself from the cold air. She could hear voices and laughter from a distance. She looked a little further to find a bonfire where other beasts resided. She watched them speed around, enjoying each other and having fun. She then felt a burning feeling in her lower back. She winced, running her fingers over the clothed spot. The burning progressed, making it more difficult for her to stand still. She quickly went in another direction as she held onto the spot. She tried her best not to cry out in pain. The stinging becoming much less the further she walked from the bonfire. She found a place to sit far enough from the beasts where she didn’t feel unsafe. She then lowered herself to the ground and sat behind a tree. Before realizing it, she managed to fall asleep despite still feeling the burning sensation in her lower back.
