These little pauses we have while dealing with my fathers threats are so nice. Wes treats me so well. He really is special. If the blue moon has this power he says it does, I hope in all my heart he’s right.

Having Wes by my side to save my sister is just one of many reasons to be thankful for him being in my life.

We left Phoenix with the Alphas at dawn. We started with the peaks to the west. The north would be too cold for her.

We left the diamonds in easy access caves. All the Alphas, Jesse, Wes and myself waited in the shadows. With Magda’s sense of smell, it wouldn’t take her long to feel and scent the rocks. When she didn’t show, we moved on.

Once the west mountains were cleared, he went south. It was dusk by the time we found a suitable trap area. A large cave with multiple tunnels to spread the smell out. Again, we hid.

We were about to give up when we heard a growl then another. We look into the cave. There’s light playing on the walls of three of the tunnels.

“What do you want?” A dark voice echoed through the expanse.

I step forward. “Magda, it’s me. Thea. We have something for you.” I look around for any movement.

The liquid sounding growls got closer. The sound of wet feet hitting the stone floor was louder now.

“Magda. What are you doing?”

“Leave me!” She demands.

“Magda. Stop this.” Jesse pushes me back. “Calm down and come out here.”

We all look to the tunnels. Deep growls round the entrances and we all back up.

Three large cats come out of the tunnels. They’re all made of lava.

They hiss, screech and boil. The lava drips off their bodies and burns on the stone as they slowly stalk us with their heads down. Their eyes and the tips of their ears are shooting flames. Their long tails are tipped in fire also.

“Uh…Jake. We can’t fight that.” Brody says.

“Yep. Fully agree. Let's go.” Jake starts.

“Wait.” Wes puts his hand up. “Look.”

One of the cats sniffs the diamonds, picks up the bag in its teeth and eats it.

From the rock wall behind the cats, an image shifted.

A long, slender bare leg stretches out of the rock and the delicate looking foot hits the floor. Her skin is grey and painted with soot. “Magda. We want to help you. Keep you safe from Artemis.” I explain.

She side eyes us all. Her face is dark and evil. “I don’t need your help. Especially yours.” She slowly raises her finger and points to Jesse.

Jesse shakes his head. “Come on, Magda. Dieti already shit all over me. I don’t need your shit too.” He steps closer. “We need to get you into proper hiding before Artemis gets ya. Ok. Come on.” He reaches out his hand. One of the cats take a hot, furious swipe at him. Throwing lava drops his way that land on his jeans.

“Shit!!” He grits, pulling his hat off and hitting the lava off. “Magda, put your goddamn kitties away.” He scowls at her. “Now!” He throws a finger at her.

“Should you be pissing her off? I feel like that’s a bad idea.” Wes says from behind him.

“No…He shouldn’t.” Magda clenches.

The tips of her hair light up orange and fire climbs up her long length to her roots.

Flames shoot out her eyes.

“GET OUT!!” She screeches and jumps to the ceiling. She sticks to it and crawls in our direction fast.

“OH, FUCK!!” Several Alphas say and turn tail out the cave.

Wes threw himself over me, then looked at Jesse. “Dude! What the fuck did you do?!”

Jesse looks at him. “That…is a long fucking story.”

He straightens his cowboy hat. “Magda. I didn’t want it to come to this. I was hoping you’d come willingly. Now…I got no choice darlin’. You gone and got yourself rabid and we gotta put you down. I’m sorry.” He looks over his shoulder and nods.

The Alphas all pull fire extinguishers out of their wolf packs, line up and spray Magda down. She falls, thrashes and screams as her flames are extinguished by the white foam.

“Sister. Please stop fighting. We have a nice pool where you’ll be safe.” Thea pleads over her screams.

The Alphas move in and concentrate their sprays on Magda. Her cats fall to puddles of magma and Magda’s arms cover her face to protect herself.

When she was cooled down, she looked at us with her black eyes. “Help me.” She hold a defeated look on her face. Her voice sounds like an empty, windy cavern.

I kneel down to her and wipe the fire retardant from her cheeks. “We will. You’re safe.” I take her hand and smile. She nods and lays down. Without her ability, she’s very weak.

We need to move quickly and get her into her tank before she’s too weak to recover her powers fully. Her nymph won’t die, but it will be essentially starved to the point where it will become practically useless to her.

Jesse picks her up and carries her to the trucks.
