A knock sounded at my office door, and when I shouted for the person to enter, I could barely process Sabrina standing on the other side of the door as if she owned the place. That confidence had been what drew me to her from the start, and I couldn’t look away as she rushed forward, taking a deep breath. I could tell from her flickering gaze across my office that she’d worked herself up to this moment—that what she’d come to say was important—but all I could focus on was the thermal leggings that hugged her ass in a way that few other clothes she’d worn since being here had.

“I have something I need to tell you,” she said, clearing her throat.

“I imagined that’s why you found my office,” I retorted.

“And it’s something that nobody else can hear. It has to just be us.”

I tilted my head and narrowed my eyes as I stood. I moved across the room quickly, closing and locking the door, before returning to my desk. This time, I sat on the surface in front of her.

“I’m listening.”

She nodded slowly, working up the nerve to tell me whatever she needed to say. “I understand who I am, and I know that my words do not hold the same level of truth that someone else’s may. You don’t have to believe me when I tell you this—”

“Never tell me that I don’t have to believe you,” I told her. “If you are coming to me with a situation, I will listen the same as I would listen to anyone else.”

She bit her lip, dragging it into her mouth and releasing it before doing the same thing over and over again as she thought about how she would tell me whatever it was that she needed to say. I gripped her chin between my fingers and dragged her face upward, forcing her eyes to meet mine.

She stiffened from the touch, her mouth dropping open slightly as she took in each curve of my face. “Your brother came into my room a while ago.”

I didn’t realize I’d tightened my fingers on her chin until she gasped. I released her, knowing that I didn’t have full control of my thoughts or my actions as the words ran through me. I recalled Jamison telling me about him doing something similar with Karsen, and I didn’t even want to consider what he’d done.

I would kill him.

There wasn’t a doubt in my mind as I considered the things I would do to him before killing him. I would enjoy each of them. I didn’t care if he was my brother or not when he touched a woman who I’d explicitly said was off limits. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ Findɴovel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“What did he do?” I asked.

She flinched back from the tone of my voice, and I forced myself to keep my mouth closed. My fists remained clenched at my sides as I took in the fear that I saw etched in every crevice of her face. “He doesn’t want me here, and he doesn’t want me alive.” She pursed her lips. “He told me that if I messed up in any way, he would kill me. He also said that if I told you about it, he would kill me. He was very… convincing.”

Convincing.

I knew what it meant for him to be convincing, and I wanted to slam my fist into his jaw even more.

She continued. “I know you don’t trust me. I know you don’t particularly like me, and I know you’re using me to get what you want. I know all of these things, and I’m not delusional to think you care about me in any way other than that, but I—”

I didn’t even let her finish as I stood to my full height and moved forward, wrapping my hand around the nape of her neck and pulling her so that she had no choice but to look up at me.

“Don’t you dare think those things,” I demanded. “I didn’t like you until I spent the past month working alongside you and seeing you for who you are. Your father’s people continuously spit at your feet, but you don’t let them bring you down or piss you off the way any other person would. You’re extraordinary, and you shouldn’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”

She looked at me with clear confusion across every crevice of her face. “You planned to kill me.”

“And now I plan to give you the rightful leadership role you deserve over these people who should have been under you in the first place.”

She shook her head. “Nobody agrees with you.”

I tilted my head. “You don’t see the effect you have on people if you believe that.”

“Not Tucker,” she replied.

The thought of my brother hurting her or even threatening her had my jaw clenching. “Did he touch you?” I asked.

“He didn’t hurt me,” she replied.

I shook my head and stared so deep into her brown eyes that nothing could stand between us. “I didn’t ask you if he hurt you. I asked if he touched you. It doesn’t matter to me whether he hurt you or not. He threatened you, and if he touched you, that’s it. He’s fucking done for.” She didn’t reply, but the look on her face told me all I needed to know. He had touched her. Intimidated her. I’d given him more leeway than I ever should have over the years, but I was done.

He knew how I felt about Sabrina, and he knew my plans. To interfere with those plans was enough to call for an execution. But to touch her on top of that?

It would be taken care of.

“Do you have your gun on you?” I asked her.

She nodded and lifted a pant leg, showing me where the strap of her holster had been wrapped around her ankle tightly and hidden away well. I tried to ignore the throbbing of my cock as I saw the way she wore such a lethal weapon, but there was no helping the arousal that coursed through me.

“Do you understand that you’re safe here?” She nodded. “You’ve been under my protection since the marriage was filed, and you became my responsibility, but it goes beyond that now. If anyone touches you, I will kill them. If anyone thinks about touching you, I’ll shoot them between the eyes. Do you understand me?”

I could only imagine how intimidating I looked as I stared down at her, pure malice in my eyes. She didn’t realize that it was all for her. Every ounce of my protectiveness was for her sake, and absolutely nothing would change that.

I hadn’t understood the fierce protectiveness I’d felt over this woman during the number of meetings when her death had been suggested, but now, I understood. I cared for her as more than an ally. I cared for her as if she were my wife in more than name, and I knew that keeping her locked away here would do nothing but put her in danger. I couldn’t do this.

“I’m sorry,” I told her. I couldn’t recall the last time I’d apologized for anything, but I said it with full sincerity. “I’m sorry for locking you away here and putting you in danger. For hurting you in more ways than one. I won’t apologize for hurting your father after all he’d done to you, but I am genuinely sorry for any pain I’ve caused you.”

Confusion flashed in her eyes, and I pulled her closer, holding the small of her back with one arm and the nape of her neck with the other hand. Her small fists traveled to my chest and balled there.

“You don’t have to apologize,” she said, shaking her head quickly.

“I hope that one day you can forgive me for all of this, but as reparation, I free you, Sabrina. You can go wherever you want and be with whomever you please. I will nullify the marriage, and you have my vow that nobody beneath me will ever hurt you again.”

Her mouth fell open as she heard those words, and I knew that it was because she’d never been granted freedom before. She’d never had that choice, but now, as she stood in my arms, she had every opportunity to turn and run.

But she didn’t.

“I could have escaped plenty of times before now,” she admitted, “But I don’t want to. I want to be here with you. I want to be married to you in more than name, Bruce. I’ve never felt as free as I do when I’m in your arms.”

I couldn’t fathom that this was what she wanted. Despite being trapped in a room—despite being threatened by my brother and by me on a handful of occasions—she still chose me.

I slammed my lips down on hers, and the soft moan that escaped her was enough for me to know that her words had been entirely genuine. She tightened her fists as she gathered my shirt in her hands and pulled me closer. I gathered her in an arm and lifted her, turning our bodies and planting her on my desk.

I didn’t give a fuck what I threw on the ground as I swept my arm across the surface and cleared it for her. Sabrina was the most important thing that sat on that desk. Nothing else mattered as I swept my gaze over every ounce of her slim, strong body. My gaze fixed on that damn gun, and I clenched my jaw.

“You have no idea what you do to me,” I told her, shaking my head rapidly and palming between her legs. She gasped and ground into my hand. “Fuck.”

“I want you to fuck me like I’m yours, Bruce. I don’t want you to hold yourself back the way you have before.”

I didn’t think anything she said or did would get me harder, but as those words left her lips, I couldn’t pull off her shirt any faster. I undid the button on her pants, jerking them from her as she lifted her weight with her palms.

“I’ve wanted to taste you for too long,” I told her.

For the first time in my life, I fell to my knees before someone, and I didn’t regret a moment of it as I pressed my tongue into the slick folds of hers and feasted. She cried out as I plunged it deeper, swirling through the depths of her and exploring every square centimeter of what was now mine. I moved one of my hands between her thighs and dipped a finger into her, finding the same warm moisture deep within her.

I thrust my fingers into her quickly, waiting until her spasming and crying grew nearly uncontrollable before I pulled away from her and yanked off my own pants.

Sabrina was quick to grab my shirt and lift it over my head as I pressed myself atop her, hovering over her opening for just a moment as I looked into her eyes. I knew this was different than all the other times. This was a claiming. It was a declaration that needed to be made, and I wouldn’t make it halfheartedly.

But Sabrina wrapped her legs around my waist and pulled every last inch of me inside of her.

I became everything and nothing as she allowed my arm to support her. As I lay her back on the desk, holding both of her wrists in my hands and pressing them to the desk beside her head. I needed control, and she gave it to me.

“Do you trust me?” I asked her, staring down at the dazed expression there.

“Endlessly,” she cried.

I slammed into her, hard and fast, and she took every ounce of my thrust, crying out with a breathy moan.

“Look at me,” I demanded, and she did exactly as I asked, staring so deep into my eyes that the rolling pleasure that barreled through me was an uncontrollable weight. As I felt the ankle holster sliding across my skin and remembered the sight of her wearing it, I came completely undone.

I bellowed my release to the ceiling, and she cried out louder than before. “Fuck me harder, Bruce. Please,” she cried.

As I became everything and nothing inside of her, I did exactly as she asked, feeling as she pulsed and came around me, too. Together, we fell off that ledge, and I knew that in the near future, we’d continue doing everything together.
