Kael

"I'm a siren, Kael."

I took a step back, not looking at her. It was as if the wind was knocked out of me.

I was going through so many emotions, none that I tried to show or give a reaction. She watched me, waiting for a reaction, but I forced myself not to. Not because I was upset, mainly because I was worried.

She had no clue what this means.

I knew she wasn't human, but goddess, I thought maybe a witch or werewolf.

But a siren?

"Kael." She calls my name pulling me out of my thoughts. She looks hurt. My heart pulls at the thought that she may think I'm upset at her.

I'm far from it.

But still, I didn't say a word, I just look at her, speechless. Words were failing to come out of my mouth. She sighs and looks away once again, staring into the garden.

"I'm sorry, I know I should've told you the truth earlier I was-" I cut her off

"Never apologise for who you are Marisela." I tell her and she falls silent. finally our eyes connect.

was she ever going to tell me who she really was?

Her eyes start to fill with tears and it only pulls a little more at my heart. This is the most emotion I've ever seen from her. Since I've met her, she's been a hard book to read. But now, she's wearing her emotions on her sleeve.

"My mother is a siren and my father is a human," she begins, "all my life I thought sirens were the only mythical creatures to date. I read about everything else, but that was only in books, everything else seemed a myth to me. Then you came along and changed everything. There is still so much that I am yet to understand." she sniffs.

Seeing her so vulnerable in this moment, made me want hold her. I had to fight everything in me to not move, I had to hear the truth from her. But that's the thing with the mate-bond you're basically born to care for your mate, no matter what.

But I couldn't, not right now at least ...not yet.

''I need to ask you something.'' I tell her and she nods her head, waiting for me, ''were you ever going to tell me who you really were?'' She was quiet for a few seconds. Slowly she looks away as guilt overcomes her.

" I just didn't know how to explain myself to you." She says. I look away from her, feeling slightly hurt. "I was afraid."

I understood what she meant.

The fear.

But, I told her who I was. Yes, I will admit the circumstances of her finding out was not at all how I planned for her to find out. But I was going to tell her. Showing her around my kingdom was my first step. I needed her to know the history before I showed her who I was.

She was never going to tell me who she truly was.

After a few moments I look at her, suddenly her face doesn't show any guilt but something entirely different.

Fear.

"Marisela, are you alright?" I ask moving towards her. Tears begin to fill her eyes again.

"I was followed that day," she begins. I tense as she speaks, "at first I thought I was running from you, but then something else was behind me. " She looks into my eyes, fear swimming in her own. She took a deep breath and spoke.

"It was a siren, Kael, but this one was different, almost scarier. Dangerous. There was something about its aura that scared me." She confesses. She held her tears this time, not allowing any to escape. Her confession caught me off guard.

That didn't make sense. Her own kind was after her? That could possibly explain the break-in this morning. That's why I had to leave her.

Early hours this morning, someone broke into the castle, but the weird thing is, is that no one was hurt nor was anything stolen.

"Do you know who it was?" I ask and she shakes her head no.

"Sirens have never been spotted on our island before," I say deep in thought, "in fact, I never once thought that they-you," I correct, "-were even real. I don't understand why they would want to hurt their own kind."

"Me neither." She says softly as if deep in thought. "I've never met another siren other than my mother."

Something about it didn't make any sense. But slowly as I put the pieces together, only one thing came to mind. Does she have any idea how much this changes everything.

The prophecy.

I needed to speak with my father. It felt like my whole world had flipped upside down.

"We will figure this out." I tell her, "For now, I have to keep you safe."

" I don't understand Kael, safe from what? From who?" She asks sounding a little worried. "I don't understand anything that is going on in my life any more, nothing is making sense. Since I have arrived here, my entire life has been flipped upside down. And even after all that, I fail to understand how you are the only thing that makes little sense. Why Kael!?" She breathes out.

Her innocence is what draws me to her more and more. She has no idea the affect she has on me.

She was right, since she arrived here her life changed, but so has mine. And after her confession today, so much more is about to change, but not just for us, but for everyone around us.

I have waited a long time for my mate, my wolf can't take the wait anymore. My human side is losing the strength to fight him off. I need her in more ways than one, and she has no idea.

Last night was just a taste of what I could give her and in return, what she could give me. She is beautiful. Everything about her. I wanted to do so much more to her last night, feel every inch of her. I almost lost control last night. I had to leave. And when I did, I shifted and went on a run in the woods. Waking up in the same room as her, watching her beautiful face as she sleeps. I needed her, all of her, but I had to wait for her, I wanted to wait till she was ready and sure she knows what she's getting herself into.

"Alpha, your father has requested for a meeting in his office right away." Dimitri links.

"I am still with the princess." I link back.

"It's urgent son." My father replies through the link.

Did he know?

Marisela watches me with a confused look, and one of understanding settles on her face once she realizes what was going on.

Just then, Cory walks towards us. She notices this too as she furrows her brows.

"Is everything okay?" She asks looking at me worriedly.

"I am being summoned by my father, I am sorry to leave but, I must go." I inform her, "Cory is here to take you to the room where it's safer." Her face falls slightly but she quickly composes it and nods in understanding.

"I will return later." I look at her for a moment longer, before nodding my head as I turn to leave.

I know leaving after her confession was such a dick move, but I had to process it and right now I am needed for something urgent. I needed to speak with my father.

When I arrive at my fathers office, Dimitri is there as well as my father's former Beta and Gamma.

"Kael," he greets, "thank you for joining us." I nod walking over to the table where they are all standing.

"Son, we are still searching for the person who broke into the castle-"

"It was no person," I cut him off, he looks to me questioningly, "I believe it was a Siren." They all tense, confusion evident on all their faces.

"Sirens?" Dimitri asks.

"I thought they were only folklore." Carl- my father's former Beta speaks.

"They are real," I shrug, tensing up as I continue, "The princess is one of them." Their eyes grow wide as saucers at the news.

I watch them one by one as their reactions change from confusion to realisation.

"Marisela is a Siren?"

"How can that be!?"

"The prophecy is true?" My father asks when the room is quiet, all eyes on him. The tension in the room evident. With all eyes on my father and me, I confirm his question.

"That means...." He begins, "you and Marisela......." I tense with the realisation. My father quickly walks over to a desk and pulls out a book in one of its drawers and walks back to us, book in hand. He begins to open to the book to a particular page.

"She of the sea

And

He of the moon

Will one day meet.

When the sun and moon collide

The land and sea shall meet

and on that day, an empire will fall, and another will rise."

My father finishes reading the prophecy, placing the book in the middle of the table where we all gather. The tension in the room is high. Realisation settling upon each and every one of us.

"It finally makes sense." Dimitri is the first to speak after what felt like ages.

"She of the sea-" he looks away deep in thought, "That could only mean Marisela, she's a siren, born from the sea." My father nods at his statement.

"He of the moon," he turns to me, "Lycans and werewolves are one with the moon. That means it's you Kael." I tensely nod.

"She of the sea and He of the moon will one day meet." My father speaks up, "Kael a Lycan, Marisela a siren." A frown settles upon his face.

"When the sun and moon collide, what does that mean?" Peter- Cory and Maria's father asks.

"An eclipse," I say catching their attention, all eyes are on me, "a solar eclipse to be exact." I turn to look out the window, my mind settling upon the realisation of what is to come.

"What does this all mean?"

"It doesn't make sense!"

"A solar eclipse only ever happens once every three-hundred years! When will the next one be?" Carl speaks, "we a need a Seer, surly they could help us!"

"Possibly," I say, "but they are very hard to seek."

"A Seer finds you." Dimitri says, "but even then what does the rest of the prophecy mean?"

"When the sun and moon collide, land and sea shall meet, and on that day, an empire will fall, and another will rise." I recite.

"A war is coming." My father finishes, taking the words right out of me.

"Kael." Dimitri calls, "that means you and Marisela," I look to him and I already know what he is thinking.

"I know." I turn my back to all of them facing the large window.

I feel my father rest his hand on my shoulder in comfort.

"I am so sorry son." He says beside me in a whisper.
