Chapter 17

Eleanor Amato - POV

“Miss. Amato?” a nurse greeted me as I entered the maternity ward, and I smiled at her. “Are you here to help out with the deliveries?” the nurse asked me, and even though I was shocked to hear what my job entitled me to do, I made sure to conceal my emotions and nodded my head.

The nurse looked really cute in her white and purple dress while her blonde hair was down in a neat and tight bun.

“Well, Alpha Derek told me that I will be working at the maternity wards too. But trust me when I tell you I have no experience in this field.” I told her honestly, but she shook her head.

“Don't worry, I can guide you,” she reassured me with a sparkling smile. “Anyway, my name is Holly.” she introduced herself.

“Eleanor Amato,” I told her, and then she guided me towards the maternity room. When we entered, my nostrils were filled with the scent of the newborns and blood. Strangely, I liked the smell of the newborn.

“Luckily, we didn't have a lot of deliveries today,” Holly explained as we walked towards a curtain that was closed. Holly shifted the curtains and entered, and I followed right behind her. A woman was lying on the bed, she was dressed in a hospital gown, but it didn't hide her pregnant belly. She looked like she was fast asleep.

“What am I supposed to be doing here?” I whispered, and Holly looked towards me.

“Don't worry, I will explain on our way to your office,” Holly reassured me, and just then, the mother stirred in her sleep and woke up.

“How are you feeling now, Mrs.Ruth?” Holly asked her, but from the scrunched look on her face, I knew that she must be in pain.

“I don't think the medicines you gave me work anymore,” she mumbled while she held her stomach and bit her lips.

“Let me check how far you are dilated before I call the doctor,” Holly told her before she put on a pair of surgical gloves and checked her. “Well, I think the baby is ready to come,” Holly told her, and I saw her eyes glaze over, a few minutes later, the curtains were pulled away, and a few other nurses and a doctor were already there.

Nervousness set in, and I slowly stepped away to give them space to work. “What am I supposed to do, Holly?”

“Usually, the beta female would be here to talk to the mother-to-be and see when she wants to arrange the initiation ceremony, but I guess we can come back later, Miss. Amato,” Holly said as she walked out of there with me.

“Wait! Initiation ceremony?” a shiver ran down my spine when she said that.

That is just a newborn baby, and I don't think it would be able to bear the pain.

“Don't worry, Miss. Amato. It is not like the initiation ceremony that we have. It's more like a naming ceremony where the Alpha and the beta female would be present, and the Alpha would use a strand of the baby's hair for this process.”

“How is that done?”

“I guess you will have to just wait and see,” Holly told me as we came to a stop in front of a white door that had my name written in a silver nameplate.

“Who did that?” I asked her as a look of confusion crossed my face.

“Oh, Alpha Derek asked us to place it here,” she said, and she opened the door, and we entered the small office room. “That is your computer, which has all the information you need. Your job is to make sure all the medicines and other equipment are always in stock. And if something is low in stock, you can place the order and claim the money from the Alpha.”

“How can I claim the money from the Alpha?”

“You just have to write a check, and he will sign it, and then, it's done,” she said, and I nodded my head. After Holly showed me the rest of the things in the hospital, I told her my farewell before I walked out of there. I made my way to the bakery, and when I reached there, it was already lunchtime, and my stomach was growling in hunger.

I walked into the bakery to be greeted with the scent of baked goodies and cake, which just made my stomach painfully cramp in hunger. “Hello, how can I help you today, ma'am.” an old lady greeted me.

“Miss.Amato, I didn't expect you to come here this soon,” she said and walked out from her cashier to stand in front of me. “I am Mrs.Tanner.”

“Oh, it's nice to meet you in person,” I told her.

Beta Xavier Costa - POV

“Can't you see Eleanor is nothing like her!” Kyle reasoned with me, but this was only causing a headache.

“Would you just fucking shut up! Just because she made breakfast doesn't mean she is innocent and would remain loyal to us, Kyle. She is trying to play with our feelings.” I told him as I walked into the kitchen to see that Eleanor had already left the house, but her scent of roses and oranges remained in the air, irritating me further.

I took a seat at the table and looked down at the plate of food in front of me. I desperately wanted to just throw it away, but the food just looked so good, and I had to go and eat it.

Just one bite.

I told myself, took my fork, and dug in. Before I could stop myself, I had finished the entire content, and I must say, she is a really good cook. I took the dirty dishes to the sink and began washing them when I felt something added to my mind link.

“Marquez, what is going on?” I mind-linked him.

“Oh, Elaenor was just added as the newest pack member,” he replied, and this made my hand tighten around the plate.

While I tried my best to push her away from me and my pack, my idiot friends were doing quite the opposite.
