Beta Xavier Costa - POV

“I am not out of my mind, you are,” I said nonchalantly, and this made him frown. “You don't know how to use an opportunity that is presented to us in a situation like this.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I talked to a few Alphas earlier, and from the fear evident in their eyes, I know that they will never form an alliance with our pack. But if everyone sees that I have found my mate and that we are in love with each other, then we can easily get a lot of alliance.” I explained, but Samuel shook his head in disagreement.

“You would only hurt her feelings by doing this, Xavier. She looks so innocent and pure, I…”

“Don't get fooled by her looks, Sam. I know women like her, they will do anything to get into bed with a high-ranking wolf.” I voiced out while my hands curled into fists.

“How can you judge her harshly, Xavier?”

“Didn't you see the dress she was wearing, Sam?” it practically screams fuck me, and I already mind-linked a few warriors and got to know that she is the daughter of Gamma Amato.”

“What is your problem with that?” Sam asked me, and this made me let out a frustrated growl.

“She also has a younger sister. Her name is Avery, and I have met her a few times, at a few of the clubs and pubs in the human town. Simply said, she must have slept with more men than any average whore. She is also known to have broken a lot of relationships too.” I explained, but when Sam was about to open his mouth, I continued. “She even approached me twice, but I didn't sleep with her,” I said, and this shut him up.

Well, I do still hold a strong policy to not sleep with any women outside my pack because that would only create a nuisance later.

“If her younger sister can be that way, then I don't even want to imagine the number of men Eleanor must have slept with,” I replied harshly, and this shut him up. Sam didn't say anything, and we stayed in his office for a couple of more minutes before I walked out to see Eleanor standing there waiting for me.

I instantly plastered a smile on my face and led her to the ballroom.

I was brought back from my deep thoughts and looked at Eleanor. She looked scared of me, but I knew that this was all an act. “Read this and let me know if you need anything to be added,” I told her in a monotone and slid the contact towards her while I leaned back on my chair.

Eleanor Amato - POV

I stared at the contract with a blank look on my face when I slowly raised my hand and pulled it towards me. ‘Arranged Marriage Contract’ was written in bold letters on the top. I took the contract in my trembling hands and began reading its contents.

The further I read, the more my heart constricted while my eyes burned, but I kept the tears at bay. It was a contract for an arranged marriage that would last for six months. I have never heard something like this happen in the werewolf world before. I mean, mates are gifted to you by the moon goddess, it is not like we go and find our partner.

“Wh…why are you giving this to me?” I asked him, and he stared at me as if I was stupid.

“You are my mate, right?” he asked me, but he didn't even wait to hear my answer and continued. “I don't want a mate, but I need to do this for my pack. But don't worry, I won't meddle with your personal life, and I want you to do the same. Once the six months are up, we can reject each other, and you can go back to your pack.” he said it so casually as if we were discussing what color my room should be painted.

I looked down at the contract when one of the clauses caught my eye. It stated that we could sleep with anyone we wanted as long as no one found that out. I read and reread the clause, but this only made my stomach churn in disgust.

“Sleep with anyone…”

“Oh, that clause.” he interrupted me and leaned forward. “That is what I meant when I said that I won't meddle with your life, and you should not meddle with mine. I know you must be wondering how that can be done because we would obviously feel the pain. I have already figured that out. I will let you know about that tomorrow.” he said and looked down at his watch. “Are you okay with the rest of the clause?”

“What is this settlement money?” I asked him.

“I don't want to let you go without anything, Eleanor. As long as you are with me, I will take care of you, but after that, I don't want to see you again.” he bluntly said. “Is that money, not enough?” he asked me with an arched eyebrow, but I kept quiet.

One fucking million is more than enough, but looking at the money only made me hate Xavier even more.

“W…why don't you want me, Xavier?” I asked him. I need to know the answer to this. Am I not beautiful? Or is it because I am a gamma’s daughter?

“That's none of your business. Now please sign the papers and get out. I have some work to finish.” he rudely dismissed me while he took another set of papers and began reading them. I could no longer control my tears, which started to slowly roll down my cheeks and stained the white papers.

I placed the papers on the desk and took the pen that he offered.

Why does this have to happen to me?
