“Now you know what my power is,” Colt began.

She glared into his pale white eyes. “Why now of all times would you show me your powers? You tried to scare me on purpose! You could have shown me before I went to bed or in the morning. What kind of faery are you?” Elaine breathed out feeling vexed. She chewed out her words, “You really do get lonely here.”

Elaine thought he probably thought it would be funny to scare her, but the thing was, he wasn’t laughing. Perhaps he just wanted to get a reaction out of her for amusement. Colt seemed like the type of person to laugh more on the inside Elaine thought.

A muscle in his strong jaw twitched. sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ FɪndNøvel.ɴᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

He scoffed while resting his hand on the wall. “Maybe I do. Most faery’s don’t like...special fae like me.”

He raised his wings higher and angled them at her with a stone cold expression on his face. He seemed to be calculating her, but she didn’t know why.

“You don’t intimidate me.”

“Really?” Colt whispered practically breathing down her neck.

Her spine flinched and she gasped when her wings released behind her. She straightened her posture, and then blinked, imagining them disappearing. When she opened her eyes, she smiled seeing her successfully hide her wings.

“Just because your dumb muscles are bigger than my head doesn’t mean you scare me,” she chided.

He crossed his arms tightly with a sleepy smug look on his face. “Listen, your boyfriend might show up in the morning. Then what?”

“Boyfriend? I don’t know what you mean.”

Colt’s smile softened. “Look, I shouldn’t have startled you earlier showing up on top of your bed like that. I don’t think there was a better way to show you what I am though. It is easier to show you what I am than explain.”

“Yeah, it’s alright. I’m starting to get used to that kind of thing actually.”

He laughed lightly. Then his tone turned serious, “No doubt you have been through much I’m sure.”

He kind of thought her quite aloof and it reminded him of someone...

“Yes, I guess I have. Let me tell you, there are some freaky things out in those woods,” Elaine replied while resting her hands on her hips.

“You don’t have to tell me, I already know. These weapons aren’t just for getting rid of the guards you know.”

Elaine tried to brush off his comment that alarmed her more than she was willing to let on. “Good to know.”

“If you want to know what kind of fae you are it is best to find out as soon as possible. You should know that,” he warned her.

“I do. I just need sleep. Also, I promise I will find a way to repay you for letting me stay here-”

“He’s in a bar and didn’t come and get you. Doesn’t that bother you?” Colt asked skeptically.

“Whatever he is doing is part of his plan. I trust him.”

“You aren’t listening to what I’m saying. Open your eyes. He’s a fae and so was that girl. Put two and two together,” he grumbled while squinting his eyes and stifling a yawn.

He was enjoying his bantering with the girl and wanted to know how long it would be until this mate of hers showed up.

“What are you saying?”

“You know exactly what I’m saying.”

Colt thought she still looked confused, but also very tired like him.

His eyes were barely open. “So you don’t care if your mate is with another woman?” he asked in a low voice.

“That’s none of your business,” Elaine mumbled defensively.

She was so tired and could barely talk. Every breath itself was heavy enough. She didn’t know how her legs were still holding her up. When she looked down she realized they weren’t. It was Colt and she glared at his chest while weakly tugging against his arms.

She was so sleepy though and so was he. Neither of them knew what was happening as air rushed by their faces. Their eyes were closed and their brains turned off as they fell through the gap in the attic door plummeting downward.
