Bitten
Chapter 13

The moon is bright tonight as the people in the city sleep.

Wes is running a couple of yards in front of me as he tries to lose me again. He fakes a right but I keep on his tail. My hair is whipping from side to side as I run through the dimly lit deserted streets. Closing in on him Wes surprisingly turns around and lunges at me not quite use to the speed I collide with him full on as we both go tumbling down to the ground.

Letting my guard down for a second Wes’ doesn’t stop for a second his hands dig into my shoulder as he pins me to the ground. A hiss makes its way out of me but I try to move him off of me but he is so much stronger than me. His eyes are a dark red shade as he lets the beast in him take over and groaning underneath him I try to shove him off again but I feel like that weak human I was a couple of days ago.

“Fight back!” Wes growls on top of me. I keep struggling but I can’t do it. “Imagine,” he pauses for a second making sure that I am listening to him, I am, “that Vince has Hannah.”

Stop it!

My nostrils flare as he continues, “by the throat and are about to bite down on her,” his harsh words paint a mental image that I would not want to ever experience, “he is drinking all her blood.” My eyes go wide and my fangs protrude.

“One of us would have to be dead before he could lay a finger on her,” I seethe but the picture he painted is still burning on my mind. Hannah screaming for me to help her and I am useless and can’t do anything to help her.

“There she is!”

Feeling some unknown power course through me Wes lowers his lips towards my neck going in for the kill. With my newfound power I shove him off of me with all my force and Wes flies across the street and vanishes.

“Don’t you dare bring her into this,” my fangs grow longer as anger coursed through me.

“It can happen if you can’t defend her.” S~ᴇaʀᴄh the (F)indNƟvᴇl.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

He is running around not letting me pinpoint his location his footsteps don’t help me since they seem to go silent when I think I have him.

I asked Wes to help me get in touch with my vampire side. He only agreed if I would finally give up on my resistance to feeding. I agreed but first, he has to show me how to defend myself.

If Vince and Wes are considered newborns still and I can’t fight them what about the older ones? They can most likely take me down without much hassle.

“Don’t you think I know that?” my vision and hearing amplify as his quiet footsteps grow louder as if he is stomping.

“Fine what if it’s not Hannah what if it was Mason?”

No!

“There is something there...you like him more than you want to admit. That’s why you can’t lose them. You’ve grown attached to both of them.”

I know I’ve grown attached to Hannah but I don’t want to think about Mason just yet.

Holding my breath my eyes dart to the left and I know he is heading that way without resisting my instincts I am in his path in a blink of an eye and grab him by the shoulder stopping him in his tracks.

His wide eyes tell me that I caught him by surprise. He shoves his shoulder away from me growls and mutters under his breath.

“Beginners luck,” a carefree laugh escapes me and for the first time in a couple of days I laugh a real genuine laugh.

Even though I feel happy it doesn’t feel natural since as a human your sides would hurt and not enough air would make it to your lungs causing you to stop and try to catch your breath. As a vampire air is not a necessity so trying to figure out when to stop is weird for me. Going from a hysterical laugh to utter silence doesn’t sit well with me but that’s what I do.

“You’re mad because I’m better than you!” A smirk pulls on my lips, “Don’t bring them up on this! I told you that this is between me and whoever wants to fight me because of what I’ve become they have nothing to do with it.”

“Well sweetie they could care less if they have something to do with it or not but your scent is all over them and that is going to pique the curiosity of every single vampire in the city. They are going to part of this fight as much as you are.”

I can’t just leave them on the street! I can always leave them with my apartment but can I leave the only thing that brings some happiness to my life?

“That’s why they have two vampires fighting on their side.” Looking into Wes’s eyes I know he is being truthful and he said he is going to be by my side but I don’t know if this is going to turn out well.

Inhaling deeply, “You don’t have to do that, I can figure something out.”

“I need to do this, will you just let me!” Biting my bottom lip, a habit of mine that helps me think better when I was human.

“Ok then but under one condition,” putting one finger up. Wes just stares at me not agreeing until I tell him what it is. “You need to stop being so...” Stopping to think of the word I want to use. Wes waits patiently but I can see in his eyes that it is wearing thin.

“Just say it, Abigail!” It was very thin.

“I need you to stop being so overbearing okay,” the flash of hurt in his eyes makes me cover up my mouth quickly as if to push the words back into my mouth but it’s a little too late. With my eyes wide I see his jaw clenches and his mouth is set in a stern line.

“Fine.” He swallows hard, “Let’s keep on practicing,” he puts a fake smile on his face and takes off. Putting my hand down I release my breath and run after him.

He’ll get over it.

Unlocking the front door I can hear the television on as Hannah giggles at something. The sun is out I was expecting to get home before they woke up.

Practice ran later than expected so I did some grocery shopping as my excuse for being out early. Opening the door Hannah’s head whips to the side to look at me and I spot Mason pacing in the living room. His head also whips towards me and concern on his face.

“She here!” Hannah claps her hands and laughs but makes no motion to get off the couch.

“Where were you? I was starting to freak out. Erm, well it none of my business but I was starting to get worried.” He sits down on the couch next to Hannah fiddling with his fingers.

“Scare!” Hannah laughs once again and turns her attention on the television since her cartoons are back on.

“Sorry, I’ll leave you a note next time I went grocery shopping.” Walking into the kitchen I place the bag on the table. Mason gets up and walks to the table as I am pulling things out of the bag.

“Let me help you,” he grabs the milk and cheese.

“Thanks.”

Does he worry about me? No one has worried about me since I was eighteen. Does he care for me or does he care because I am keeping a roof over their head?
