Bitten
Chapter 2

Drip.

What on earth is that?

Drip. Drip.

Is the faucet leaking again? I need to get ahold of my landlord.

Drip.

With heavy eyes, my eyelids pull open as the dripping of water continues. My mind is full of fog as I try to grab my pillow and shut the noise out.

“Stupid!” The voice is unfamiliar and it is one of an angry person. Realization fills my mind slowly.

I am not alone in my room.

The heavy breathing wakes me as my eyelids grow heavy but my vision focuses more with every blink.

As my vision focuses on the memories of earlier come flooding like a tidal wave through my mind.

The man from Starbucks stabbed me. I remember that my chest was numb earlier my hand slams down and my chest as I glance down, there is nothing there.

The pounding of my head makes me groan and the breathing stops. I hear footsteps against concrete making their way towards me.

The footsteps pound loudly against my ears as I clamp my hands over my ears and push myself back. I want there to be as much between me and whoever is coming.

My back is against something hard and my legs are against the cold concrete ground.

I am not in the alleyway any more, he must have moved me. I am in a huge building. The footsteps are coming from behind some boxes used as a barrier. When the guy comes out from behind them he stands in front of me. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FindNøvᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Even though the building is not well lit I can see well with little effort. The person is wearing tight black jeans and a dark grey jacket over his slim body. I stare at his facial features he has stubble and he is biting his lower lip.

Then my gaze lands on his dark brown eyes locking my gaze, like a caged bird I have nowhere to stare except for his eyes, but the purple around his eyes has disappeared.

“Who are you?” I whisper as my hands drop from my ears.

“I’m Wes, how are you feeling?” He asks with his raspy voice. I narrow my eyes.

Did you kidnap me? How do you think I am?

I glance away from him when the rust stench invades my nostrils. A hiss escapes my lips, “You must be thirsty.” I turn to gaze at him and he has a wicked smile on his lips. “I know you can talk, so talk.” His features are calm but his eyes are angry.

“Can I have a glass of water?” It comes out as a whisper. My throat feels as if I just swallowed sand.

“Water? What good is water going to do to you?” He chuckles, I do not understand his humor. I am parched and now he wants to laugh that I want water.

“My throat is killing me,” I try to clear my throat but that does not help and when I swallow it is as if sandpaper is scraping the inside of my throat.

“Water will not help you, you need this,” he walks towards the boxes and disappears behind them. I can hear him huff as he picks something up. When he returns he has a limp body dangling from his shoulder.

A scream rips through me as his dazed eyes stare off into the distance.

He killed him and I’m next.

A lump forms in my throat making my scream to seize as my mouth waters, I swallow hard.

“This will help,” he throws the body at my legs but I have time to move them towards my chest.

There is no way in hell that I am about to leave any trace of myself on that body. The body hits the ground with a loud thump. I am having an inner battle with myself. I dry heave at the sight of the person’s ripped out throat but my mouth fills with saliva as the blood from his neck drips onto the floor.

“What’s wrong with me?” I push my body back but the wall keeps me in place. My chest is heaving, I roll my head back trying not to glance at the body, but the stench is ever-present. I push myself up with my legs trembling and with all my might I step over the body. “Are you going to kill me?”

I step up to the man in front of me trying to show him I am not scared of him but it is hard when my whole body is trembling.

“No, after I searched for months, found what I was looking for, and did a successful transformation you want me to kill you,” he laughs as he tilts his head to the side assessing me.

A successful transformation?

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Anger fills me as my body stiffens with my anger.

“You, you’re a vampire! A demon of the night, a bloodsucker, and you’re my creation.” He kicks the body, “Better eat up before some other vampire comes and takes it from you!”

The sensation of my heart dropping to the floor is overwhelming and my eyes burn but there are no tears. A sob does manage to come out but that is the only emotion able to come out of this body.

“You-” I breathe, “you turned me into a vampire!” I shriek and he is in my face in a matter of a nanosecond covering my mouth with his hand.

“Shut up, will you! I want no one to know where I am and neither will you after you know what’s out there,” he snaps at me. “There are humans not many but enough that is a threat to our kind. They’re vampire hunters and they know how to find us, so shut up!” He releases me but his glare stays menacing as he demonstrates is dominance over me.

“I didn’t ask for this!” I whisper at him, “just a couple hours ago I was a barista and now I’m a fucking vampire! How did this even happen? I didn’t even talk to you. I left you alone something you should have done. Why did you come after me?” A nervous tic I have is wringing my fingers and he takes notice of this.

He presses his shoulder against the wall and stares at me, “How are you doing it?”

“Answer me!” I hiss as I twist my finger harder than before but feel no pain.

“Fine but then you answer me,” he sighs, “I’ve been going to that Starbucks for the past couple months, looking,” he pauses, “for my next meal. When a bright, bubbly, and cheerful Abigail comes out from behind the counter and smiles at everyone in the small cafe, everyone except for me. It drove me insane. You walked out the door without glancing at me. Something inside of me told me you recognized what I was but something changed today and you looked at me. That’s why I did my move today.”

“I looked at you and you attacked me?” I gave him a look and this permitted him to do this to me.

Sorry for looking your way, Dracula!

“That was part of it and you have this alluring aroma that has me on edge. That first day I saw you I was ready to rip your throat out, along with everyone in the cafe. But against my better judgment, I tested myself and see how long I could hold off killing you. I was doing great until today, you decide to glance at me and send your scent over to me. You want to learn why you’re still alive.” I nod. “You gave me a small smile, and if I was human I would have liked to be acquainted with you but human-vampire relationships are not a great idea since it can expose our existences, so I turned you.”

Just like that? No warning? No, hey Abby! I can call you Abby right? I like you so I’m a turn you into a fucking vampire. Are you okay with that?

“So, you liked me so you decide to ruin my life,” my voice full of anger.

“Pretty much if that's how you want to see it,” he pushes himself away from the wall and makes his way towards me. “Now it’s your turn. I’ve been a vampire for a couple of years and I am using all my strength not to suck that body of its blood and you’re just talking like there is nothing here!”

The body invades my vision and my stomach fills with disgust.

“I’m not so hungry!” He keeps walking towards me. He is a couple of feet away from me.

“You must be something special,” he says as he closes the distance between us.

“Why would you think that?” I stand my ground even though his closeness makes me uncomfortable.

“Your irises didn’t turn the normal red color when they are near blood like everyone else I met, they turned violet instead.”

“Is that bad?” I worry. He turned me into a vampire and even among the strange I am not normal. What is wrong with me?

“I don’t know,” he leans in and this time I step away from him but he stops me by wrapping his arm around me pressing his hand on the small of my back. My body presses hard against his and he lifts my body. As if I were light as a feather I am on my tiptoes. My chest beats on his as I breathe and he is staring at my lips.

“Wes?” I try to distract him but his mouth comes crashing down on mine. I have my lips close tight but with his other hand he tilts my head back and his tongue makes its way inside my mouth. His kiss is urgent, forceful even as he explores every inch of my mouth and I am so helpless. That is until there is a pain in my gums and I bite down hard on his lip causing him to push me away from him.

“What the fuck?” He growls as his hand rubs his rip.

“Understand this I won’t let anyone force me to do something I don’t want to and I don’t want to kiss you!” I glare at him and he stares at me surprised.

“But you are my creation. You should have feelings for me since I send my venom straight into your heart!” He looks bewildered.

“Well, then you should rethink that because I sensed nothing other than anger and hatred towards you!” I spat.

“If it wasn’t for me you would be dead!” He snaps and pushes me against the wall. “Do you understand I am the reason you’re alive!” A hiss escapes my lips.

“You’re the reason I’m in this mess. I will rather be dead than be like you!” This is all true. If I had a choice I would be six feet under.

“News flash sweetheart, you’re dead!”

His words crash through me as I realize that I have lost everything from my family, my friends, to my chance to live the life I always wanted.

Like sand slipping through my fingers my hopes and dreams slip through as well.

He lets me go and I let my body slide down to the ground. I put my hand over my heart and I do not sense a heartbeat. I pull my legs close to my chest and rest my forehead against my knees.

Wishing for once in my life that the tears I am unable to produce would fall down my cheek. Life can be so cruel when I could cry I would try my hardest to hold them back and now I wish they would fall.

I sob that is all I could do. I have no one to comfort me, and the faraway footsteps make sends me into the loneliness he must have endured.
