Blood Lust
Chapter Eight

The Guard had moved up to the front of our group and led us down eerie twists and turns, occasionally he would flash the light behind us. Reactively, we would look back to see if something was behind us.

"Okay, Okay. Stop here. Everyone sit down and stay together." He had us stop and sit. He took his flashlight with him and walked around the corner. Panic had set in for me as the only source of light that we had, was slowly diminishing as he walked away. Then, we were left in complete darkness.

Is he leaving us here!?

My mind raced to conclusions. He had walked far enough down the passage to where I couldn't see anything in front of my face, but I could see the faint light of his flashlight.

"He ate one of them man!...I thought they were coming later?...Why are they ahead of schedule?...Get me out of here! Now!" I could faintly hear the conversation he was having. "Okay, meet you there." Was the last audible thing I could pick up before I saw his flashlight headed back to us. "Listen, we're changing paths so stand up!" He shouted loudly. He was frantic. We followed him down more passages that seemed to go forever, I had no sense of direction. I had no idea how he could tell where we were.

"Pssst. Over here!" An unclaimed voice in the dark called out. It made me jump.

"Fuck man, you scared me!" The Guard had tried to brush off the fact he was equally as scared as us. A second light flickered on to confirm the identity of the voice. It was a second Guard.

Together they brought us to a panel in the wall, when they popped it out of its place. A bright light had shown through, a moment of excitement overtook me as I imagined it was a ray of sunlight.

My hopes of escaping had crushed me when I stepped through the panel to see we had landed right back in the lobby entrance of the library. We had gone in a full circle.

"What are you guys doing, using the service tunnels?" Dee had been leaning up against the wall along side the other Guard who I had caught staring at from the watch tower. When they saw us straggle out, they kicked off the wall. Dee let a finger hover over his radio.

"It was an Elder, he showed up and ate one of them!" The first Guard broke down in hysterics and shouted. Dee gave a quick glance at the other Guard.

"What did he want Martin?" Dee questioned. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the ꜰindNʘvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

"Nothing, he asked for a tour and fucking ate her! The body is in pieces man!" Martin shouted.

"Take them back to their pods and we'll look into it. Don't confront anymore Elders if you see them." Dee pressed the radio button all while sharing a glance at the other Guard that stood beside him.

"You take these guys and I'll take these ones." Dee had divided us up.

Oh, great!

I was stuck with the creepy Guard.

We walked, some of us still had tears rolling down our faces. But, silently, they were dropped off to their pods, which left me last. What a coincidence?

"Christi, you look awful!" The Matron exclaimed as she saw me walk through the door. I looked down at myself to see what she was talking about. I was covered in dust and cobwebs. "Thank you R, we've got it from here." She saw him off and closed the door.

R... What a strange name.

In the morning, I had been woken by our daily alarm. It was time to start a new day. Once assigned, we were sent off to grab a quick bite in the mess hall. Then, dragged all the way back to give blood.

In the halls, I spotted Anton and Thad in the hall. I kept my eyes forward, hoping I wouldn't attract their attention. It was too late. We exchanged glances, "We're coming for you bitch!" Anton mouthed as he passed me. Thad chuckled at his threat.

In the kitchen, I had another confrontation with the duo. Somehow they had snuck past the Guard at the door and stood there watching me, "Well well, look who it is?" Anton said sneered. I looked past them. The Guard had turned a blind eye. That led me to believe that Anton had bribed the Guard, which wasn't all that uncommon, but in my case it wasn't good.

"Get out of my way." I pushed past them with a large pot of water, but he wouldn't budge.

"Not so fast. I just wanna talk." He flashed a greasy smile. He grabbed the pot out of my hand and slammed it down on the prep table and moved in closer. Too close for my personal liking. "I wanna run this idea by you..." He grabbed me and pushed me up against the wall, pressing his body closer and closer. "I have a plan to escape..."
