As the years had passed, Eddy had never doubted that.
When he had been 16 years old, Caroline had returned. She had grown up into a graceful and extraordinary young woman, but she seemed to have forgotten every single memory of them.
It had infuriated Eddy and also made him even more certain that Layla was the one who had saved him back then.
This was the reason he hated Caroline so much.
From time to time, he would reminisce about the past, yet Caroline remembered nothing about what had happened.
He had asked her about the incident several times before, but she would always shake her head and ask him if something like that had actually happened before.
Thinking of that incident now, he glanced back at Caroline. “You were around five years old when I was seven or eight years old. Do you remember anything about us getting kidnapped?”
Caroline stared back at him in confusion. He had asked her this same question over and over again.
She returned from overseas when she had been 16 years old. It had been her first time meeting him, and he had asked her the same question.
Throughout the years she had stayed by his side, he had continued to ask her the same question. And when he did, he would always stare at her piercingly. It was as if she was a traitor.
“I’ve told you lots of times that I’ve forgotten most of what happened when I was young.”
Caroline herself wasn’t sure why, but she couldn’t remember anything from her past.
Perhaps it was just like what Sarah and Dan had explained to her back then.
They said that she had been through something horrible, which had caused her memory loss. Apparently, it seemed like she wasn’t willing to recall her childhood memories.
Eddy laughed lightly. “Maybe you will understand why I’m so kind to Layla when you remember it.

She got out of the car, took a few steps, and turned back. “I really can’t remember what happened.
She trailed off, hesitating.

As she entered the elevator, she wondered why her memories from before the age of six were so vague and blurry.
However, she could still vividly remember the things that happened when she had been about seven or eight years old.
She couldn’t forget how Sarah had taken her to see the doctor every Friday when she was seven.
At the time, Sarah had been shocked when Caroline had mentioned that the doctor she was seeing was a psychologist.
“You can read?” Sarah asked in disbelief.
Caroline had nodded and read aloud the titles that the doctor had held. It had surprised Sarah so much that she had wanted to train Caroline to become a writer.
Later on, though, the plan had been put on hold because Sarah had started preparing her to become Eddy’s wife.
The elevator doors opened, snapping Caroline back into reality. She stepped out of the elevator and saw Kirk pacing around in front of the door of the house.
“Why are you outside?”
Raising his eyes to meet Caroline’s, he strode across the corridor toward her and pulled her into
his arms.
