Bonds of the Fallen
Chapter 41

“I fear the inevitable has been set into motion, dear sister,” Verdandi’s voice was a hushed whisper as she gently laid a comforting hand upon Urd’s shoulder.

With her eyes fixed on a single leaf that gently spiraled down from the immense branches of the towering World Tree overhead, Urd sighed deeply. “All the threads of fate have woven themselves to this very moment.” She watched as the leaf descended, finally resting upon the well’s surface, sending ripples outward. Reaching into the calm, crystal-clear waters, she tenderly cradled the delicate leaf in her slender fingers, lifting it for a closer inspection. The rich, golden brown of the leaf contrasted sharply with the lush green of the foliage above, from where more leaves had begun their journey downward. “The gears have been set in motion.” S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FɪndNovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“She has loosed his chains,” Verdandi spoke into the silence.

Urd’s eyes flicked up to meet her sister’s. “She’s yet to discover the extent of her powers, let alone the magnitude of her actions,” she remarked, patting the smooth stone beside her. “Come, sit with me. We shall bear witness together.”

With a soft sigh, Verdandi obliged, resting her head against Urd’s shoulder as they sat side by side. “He’s found her. His wrath towards the gods knows no bounds. My heart fears she might not realize the truth in time.”

Urd’s eyes softened, crinkling at the corners as she allowed a small, sad smile to grace her lips. “Fate will unfold as it has been destined to, just as it always has.”

“I can’t stand idly by,” Verdandi exclaimed, her voice echoing with a sense of urgency that cut through the tranquil air. “We mustn’t just remain spectators to the unfolding events.”

Urd lifted her head, fixing her sister with a look of profound concern. “Our hands are tied, Verdandi. Our interference has already stretched the boundaries of what is permissible.”

But Verdandi was resolute, her eyes blazing with a tense resolve. “We must find a means to lend her our aid. She’s become the linchpin, the sole hope we have of halting this impending calamity.”

A heavy sigh escaped from Urd’s lips. “True. We must tread carefully, for our actions might bring unintended consequences, potentially exacerbating the situation.”

Verdandi gave a solemn nod of acknowledgment. “We cannot simply stand by and do nothing.”

They held onto the hope that their sister would realize the gravity of the situation in due time.

The sisters watched as the leaves continued their descent, their soft rustling a gentle melody that accompanied the peaceful lapping of the water. Urd would reach into the well every so often, her fingers dancing through the water as the world around them waited, suspended in time.
