It’s been seven days since I’ve been in this room. As a daily task Mateo entered my room in attempt to get me to comply, but every day he leaves frustrated. I’ve been doing everything I can to get on his nerves. He hasn’t realized yet but every time he talks to me he slips a bit of information of his motives. Like clockwork the door clicks open and he enters.

“Right on time for your therapy session.” I joke as I get up from the yoga pose I was in. he walked straight up to me and pushed me against the wall.

“This is funny to you?” I didn’t break eye contact with him. “Last night a group of men stopped by. Don’t worry, I’ve sent an appropriate answer for you husband. He’s getting restless.” Mateo smirked.

“Not as restless as you.” I smiled without showing how much his touch bothered me. His breath fanned against my skin reeking of alcohol, making me nauseated. It was one of the few moments I had the upper hand where he didn’t really know what he was saying. These past days moments like this has helped me a lot.

“You don’t know what restlessness feels like, doll.” His red eyes scanned my face with a malicious look behind them.

“So tell me, what restlessness is like?” I ask nonchalantly not taking my eyes of him. I saw a wave of sadness wash over his face but it was soon replaced by anger.

“It eats you up from inside… when you see someone deserving of the worst punishment roaming around like they’re a fucking saint.” He snarled. “When you see someone innocent suffer for something so out of their control it destroys them…”

“So? Life isn’t fair. The good isn’t always good and the bad isn’t always bad. But that doesn’t stop you from living.”

“No but it gives you a motivation… a thirst that can only be satisfied by the sight of the deserving being crushed by their deeds.”

“So you took it on your shoulders to see to that?”

“Someone had to.” He shrugged.

“So tell me Mateo. By doing this… by delivering these punishments… will it reverse time? Will it bring back what was lost? Will it change what already transpired? Will you be able to look that person in the eye without guilt?” something flashed in his eyes and he diverted his gaze backing away from me. “Tell me Mateo… What will you gain?”

“Piece of mind.” His voice barely came out.

“For who? Yourself? That makes you extremely selfish.”

“THEY DESERVE IT!!” he explodes. “HE DOESN’T FUCCKING DESERVE TO RUIN HER LIFE AND CONTINEU LIVING LIKE NOTHING IS WRONG. NONE OF THEM DO… DON’T TELL ME YOU DON’T AGREE?” his harsh breaths echoed through the room. He steps up to me grabbing my upper arms with a tight grip. “You of all people know what I mean.”

“No one can change what is meant to be no matter how much you try to bend it to your will. The problem is that as we judge others based on our opinions, we forget that in the eyes of the world, we too – have flaws.”

“Stop talking in riddles.”

“If you kill a killer the number of killers in the world remains the same.” I shrug as I take a seat on my bed. I watch him struggle trying to come up with an answer. He finally gives up and exits the room. Smiling I get up. It’s time to get out of this shit hole. Lifting the mattress I collect the things I’ve been gathering for these past days. With the latest addition being a gun I know I can get out of here.

Cracking the panel of the ceiling I manage to maneuver through a good portion of the building. I picked this time at night because most of the people roaming this building are asleep. As quiet as I can I climb down into the control room. Or as they know the camera room. After a few clicks I manage to get the system hanged and I stealthy walk toward the exit. Without making any sudden movements. I knew I had a relative small window of time to get out. So I finish scanning the parameters and manage to walk out. Smirking I walk toward the jungle behind the place they were keeping me. Not long after the building came to life. Apparently they noticed the systems glitch.
