Chapter 34

Ace p.o.v.

“Hey man I got a call from one of our spies…” Vik said as he walked through my office door. Holding up my hand I gesture to him to wait a second as I finished my call.

“So?”

“Peter is planning to get to Aiden… he didn’t have much information about where or when but he will keep us updated.”

“Hmm…”

“I was thinking we should hire more people to keep them safe.”

“Daleyza isn’t going to like that.” I mumble.

“Yeah well it’s not like she has much of a choice.” I stare at him. “What I meant was it’s about Aiden’s safety… she’ll agree. She doesn’t want him to get hurt.”

“I’ll talk to her.” he lets out a sound. “Out with it Vik.” I say.

“You’ve changed.”

“And?”

“I’m just not used to seeing you like this. You look like a love sick puppy… sometimes I wonder if you’re still the cold heartless mafia boss that we knew.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I raise an eyebrow waiting for him to explain.

“When was the last time you went to torture someone? You used to love that. You just don’t seem like the same boss we know. Something is different…”

“I’m still the same man I don’t know what you’re on.” I rolled my eyes. “Anyway… ”

“One of the warehouses is under attack…” Jay burst into the office catching both our attention. He takes a few deep breaths before continuing. “The one with the old drugs. We managed to keep them out but they are still lingering.”

“So they are sitting outside the warehouse they just attacked without doing anything?”

“We need to go…” Vik started.

“No…”

“What why not?” my eyes flicked from Jay to Vik and back.

“Tell whoever is in there to shoot anyone of them putting a foot on our property. Send a few men from here to catch a few of them.” Jay nodded and walked away.

“Ace… what are you planning?”

“They want to lay out a trap for me. Let’s see how they react when it doesn’t work.” I shrug and grab my jacket.

“Where are you going then?”

“I’m hungry. I’m going for lunch.”

Walking out of my office I feel Vik’s stare on me. Just as I entered my car I heard my phone ring.

“Can you tell your lackeys to get the fuck off my back?” Daleyza’s pissed voice came through the speaker.

“What are you talking about?” I frown.

“I came to the mall with my brother’s girlfriend and they keep bugging me. They keep coming up asking to take the bags or if we want something to eat. A few seconds ago one said you ordered to get us home. You could have called me.” I could hear her gritting her teeth now.

“Where are you now?”

“Lakes shopping center. Don’t tell me…”

“Daleyza. Listen to me carefully… my men have clear instructions not to engage with you. And I did not send anyone to get you… so take your brother’s girlfriend and stay in a public place I’m coming to get you.”

She agreed and cut the call. I raced to her location. When I reached there they were seated at a restaurant I join them.

“Ace what’s going on?” Daleyza asked as I sat down and placed a kiss on her head. The other girl looked quite scared.

“I don’t know exactly but I’m working on it.” I tried to see what men she was talking about but she said she didn’t see them. I ate lunch as the girls talked about something. I tried fishing out anything out of the ordinary but nothing caught my eye. After we finished eating we dropped the other girl off and drove away. Aiden was suspiciously quiet the whole time. Which seemed very weird, but I brushed it off for now.

“What do you have planned for today?” Daleyza asked out of nowhere. I just gave her a side glance.

“I have to check somethings but otherwise I am free. Why?”

“I have the Ob/Gyn appointment in an hour. If you want to be there.” She shrugged.

“You want me there?” that came out before I could even process it.

“I mean you don’t have to if you don’t want to.” She mumbled and stared out of the car window. Before I could talk myself out of it I was pulling up to the hospital parking lot. She looked a bit surprised but didn’t say anything. We walked in and after waiting for some time we finally got called.

The doctor asked some questions and she laid down on a bed. I was confused the whole time. Then the doctor did something with a machine and turned the screen to us.

“And there is your baby.” She said pointing to a blurry gray thing on the screen. She twisted a knob and the whole room echoed heartbeats. I was speechless and didn’t know what to do. The doctor finished up and we left. I felt like I was on autopilot. We sat in the car but I didn’t start or move.

“Ace…” I felt her hand on mine and my head snapped to her. “Are you okay?” she looked a bit worried.

“Uhm yeah I’m okay.” I smiled and took a deep breath. I started the car and she started pulling her hand away but I grabbed it before she could. We drove in silence… a peaceful silence with sounds coming from the game Aiden was playing.
