Chapter 77 

“I am finding out why you are in a bad mood all of a sudden.” 

Ana launched herself at Damien, trying to grab her purse. “No, you are not. Give it back.” 

Damien put the bag above his head and reached in. She searched around for a bit before he found her phone. 

“Damien,” she warned but he ignored it. “Don’t.”

Damien looked up and was met with the absolutely furious gaze of his girlfriend. Ana snatched the phone out of her hand and walked out of the room. He followed her so that they were out of Alan’s sight or earshot. 

“Why is he texting you?” he hissed. 

“Shut up. You just disrespected me in there and I don’t have to tell you anything.” 

Damien grabbed her arm and pulled her to him. She struggled for a moment but stopped when she realized it was pointless. There was no way he was letting her go. 

“I love you, Anastasia,” he said firmly. “I don’t like it when you are upset and if you don’t talk to me, I’m going to have to find out what is wrong with you my own way.” 

“All 

you had to do was give me a few minutes to calm down and process everything. I would have told you everything. You didn’t have to act like a jerk with me.” 

Ana’s words were still acidic, but her body had relaxed a tad bit in his arms. 

“I’m sorry,” he sighed, kissing her forehead. “In my defense, I left feeling all warm and bubbly and returned to you hating me.” 

Damien felt her arms slip around his waist and she pressed her cheek against his chest. “I’m sorry, too. I was just frustrated. I didn’t mean to take it out on you.” 

“I’m not the only one you took it out on, Ana,” he commented softly. 

“I know…” Ana looked down at her watch and whined. “We’re going to be late.” 

As she helped Alan into his coat, she apologized. “I didn’t mean to yell at you, sweetie. I was in a bad mood, but I shouldn’t have yelled. Are you okay?” 

Alan nodded. 

“You won’t always get what you want. Next time, just listen to Mommy when she says less sugar.” 

“Okay, Mommy.” As Alan grabbed the railing to head downstairs, Damien put his arm around Ana’s shoulder and kissed the tip of her nose before following behind his son. 

“What does he want?” he asked ten minutes into their drive. They were driving in Damien’s car because Ana’s battery was acting funny. Neither of them wanted to take a chance lest something happened. 

“You saw the message. He wants to talk.” 

“Is that the first message he has sent?” he questioned. 

Ana hesitated. It was unnecessary for any confirmation but she gave it anyway. “No. He sends one every day for over a week.” 

Damien tried his best to hide how irked he was by the news. “Do you want me to tell him off?” 

Ana scoffed. “If I wanted to say something, I am perfectly capable of doing it myself. But thank you for the offer.” 

“Then do it.” 

Chapter 77 

“I don’t want to.” 

“Ana, were you in the same room when he was saying those nasty things to you? Because I was. Why would you want anything 

to do with him?” 

“Do you remember the things YOU said to me? I forgave you, didn’t I?” 

Damien had no comeback and he didn’t want the conversation to get out of hand. He clenched his jaw and stared at the road ahead of him. Ana turned around and surreptitiously checked on Alan. 

Alan was watching some videos on the tablet. He had headphones on and hadn’t heard a thing. 

“Look, Damien. I don’t know what I am going to do about Marcus, okay? He has been my friend for a long time and while ! don’t want to lose him completely, I can see that he can’t be a part of our lives.” 

“I don’t want that asshole near my family, Ana. He crossed the line and I don’t care what he has to say.” Damien could have said more, but it wouldn’t do any good. He would just rile up the missus and he couldn’t be sure that Alan won’t overhear. 

They pulled up in front of the school and Ana walked Alan in. She let out an exhausted breath when she got back into the car. 

Damien grabbed her hand and kissed her knuckles. 

“I have a feeling today will be a horrible day.” She rubbed her eyes with her free hand. 

“Don’t think about it, baby. Why don’t I come to your office during lunch and take you out?” 

Ana gave a small smile and nodded. “That sounds like a good idea.” 

When he dropped her off at the office, Damien gave her a peck on her cheek. “I will see you at noon.” 

“I’ll be ready for you.” 

Ana rushed out of the office the moment she received his text at lunch. She almost took off the door to the car trying to get in. 

“Whoa.” 

“Just drive,” she grumbled. 

“Can I speak without you killing me? Or should I just stay silent?” he asked. 

“You’re fine. I just need to get away from this place,” she said, leaning her head back against the seat. 

“What happened?” 

“Carmen’s being a complete bitch this morning. She took every chance to make my life hell.” 

Carmen? Damien had never heard of this person before. 

“Do you want to talk about it?” 

“No. I just want to forget about it during our lunch.” 

Damien tried his best to distract Ana by telling her about a client he met. He succeeded and she left her plate empty. When they got back to her office again, he ran around to her door and opened it before she had a chance to. Ana stood up and Damien pressed her against the car, needing to feel her against him. 

“What are you doing?” she asked with a slight smile.
