Chapter 21

Pain, well that is a good sign at least I knew I was alive, the first thing I heard was the constant beep of hospital equipment. The smell of cleaning chemicals hung in the air, all these where positive indicator’s that I was some where safe. But but still didn’t want to open my eye’s, if I kept them closed I could deny what I had done, I could say it was or nightmare maybe it was someone else, I couldn’t have done all the horrible thing’s I remembered. I no I tried to stop myself from hurting all those people. As these thoughts kept running through my head I let out a cry of sorrow. someone squeeze my hand but I still refused to open my eye’s.

“I know it’s hard jess but I need you to open your eye’s now for me baby girl, don’t let this beat you. Please face this and I will stand by your side and help you” it was Abigail, Abigail had stayed with me I don’t know how long I had been here but she had stayed, I opened my eye’s and saw the iv tubes hanging from my arm then saw Abigail’s hands wrapped in mine, I tried to speak but my throat was dry I began looking for something to drink but abbey was there in a flash holding a cup of water with a little bent straw. Small sip’s you’ve been heavily sedated for a few day’s so you might be a little disorientated.

“What happened?” i asked my voice was raw and raspy.it hut to get those two words out but I had to know everything.

Abigail put the glass on the side table then sat on my bed with a solum look and began to fill me in on everything that had happened in the fight and the subsequent event’s.

She glazed over the events at the fight and getting me here for medical treatment. “Once we knew you where stable Alex got everyone together and briefed them on the situation Gudmundur traced Kane and his alchemist buddy down, from what I hear they did’t stand a chance. Kieth was set up to apprehend every one even loosely connected to Kane or the fight’s at this moment we have prisoners sitting in holding facilities run but multiple factions, the dragons are keeping their eye’s on the fighter’s, I bullied the vampier council to lend assistance so they are holding on to the mages and the once’s responsible for cooking up the shit they’ve been pumping in to people.

“Do they now what it was that was getting put in the drug? What was it’s purpose?”

“Jess honey, you shouldn’t be thinking about any of that right now, all you should be focused on is recovery.”

“No, I’m not giving up. don’t put me on the sideline’s, I need to see this through.”

I looked down feeling shame that I had failed my mission and needed be rescued. But the worst part was knowing that my body did all those terrible thing’s in the ring. “Why ever would you think I am disappointed in you, you have done an amazing job, Abigail has explained everything and so have your new friend’s” I didn’t know what to say.

“you don’t think I’m a monster for what happened in the arena “ I asked looking down at my hand’s as I spoke, it was the first time since waking that I had looked at my body and what I saw shocked, my nails had elongated and looked razor sharp, I remembered them clawing, stabbing and slashing at my opponents in the arena, I threw the covers from my body to find that I had faint markings scattered all over my body, as I looked closer I noticed they resembled scales and if the light hit my skin it shimmered slightly the way Lyn’s scales would shine a beautiful iridescent. Looking at those assembled around me I started to cry “what’s happened to me? What have they done”

lyn looked at me taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, “we don’t honestly know what has happened, these could be delayed effects of what Jeremiah did to you in the cave’s” at the mention of the caves a began to shiver “all I can say for sure is that you are still beautiful and I love you like you are my own daughter, so please believe I will have people trying to figure this out.”

As she finished speaking Alexander clear his throat “hmm jess, I want you to get some rest, then we will figure everything out for the moment I am taking over your team until your are given the all clear.”

“No” I said a little bit louder than I intended, I probably sounded like a child throwing a tantrum. You are not taking me off this investigation I will be a part of it I will see to it that these bastards are apprehended and spent the rest of there lives in tartaurs.” While I was talking energy started to discharge from my body, I could see it surge up the wires and over the metal bed frame causing the electrical equipment I was attached to to go crazy
