Cottonmouth: Chapter 5

Moments later, the front doors were thrown open and a very pissed off woman returned with a very concerned looking wolf-dog beside her. “Where the fuck is my truck old man?” she called out.

Cobra snorted and drawled, “You kiss your mama with that mouth?”

Throwing her earlier question back at her, probably wasn’t his smartest idea at the time.

She whipped out a pistol and lobbed a shot off at the floor under his feet.

Cobra dove when he saw the gun and the men around him scattered.

Python didn’t move. He just sat there and watched what was going on. He knew she wouldn’t hurt any of them. He smiled softly at her actions though.

Cobra picked himself up off the floor and dusted off his clothes. “Big mistake bitch.” He growled as he sneered. “You missed me.”

“Did I?” she scoffed as she put her gun away. “Who hit the floor? You or me? I knew exactly where I was shooting.”

Cobra clenched his hands into fists and glared at her. He took a step toward her.

Wolf stepped out of the shadows to stand in front of her. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the ꜰindNʘvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Cobra, stand down,” Python ordered. “She knew exactly where her bullet would go.”

Cobra snapped his head around to glare at his father.

Python shook his head. “She wasn’t trying to hit you fool. She just wanted to see you dive.”

Cobra looked back at her and snarled, “Not very fucking funny, bitch.”

“It was for me.” She smirked. Then she turned to Python, already dismissing Cobra’s anger. “Where is my truck?”

Python cocked his head at her. “We weren’t done parleying yet.”

“Old man, I’m tired. Whatever I tell you, you aren’t going to believe anyway. I don’t know why you all were at that warehouse tonight, nor do I care. If you’re concerned about that… don’t be. You do your thing and I’ll do mine. I have one more man to hunt down and that’s all I care about. You stay out of my way and I’ll for damn sure, stay out of yours.”

Python shook his head as his men settled back into their chairs. “I have a feeling if we did that, our paths would cross every time we went on a mission. I’d rather not have to worry about you getting in the crosshairs of our guns or the cartel’s.”

“I’m not going anywhere until I find the last man.” She growled as her hands curled into fists at her side.

“Why?” Pappy wanted to know. “Why is he so important to you?”

She turned to glare at him like she though he was stupid too. “Because I need his ring to give to my nephew. So I can show him the men who murdered his dad are dead.”

Cobra watched her to see if she was telling them the truth. It seemed to him she was. “So you did kill the other men,” he stated disappointedly.

“No, you fucking bastard, I didn’t kill them.” She growled. “I messed up and the first man caught me just as I got close to him. I could read him like a book. He was so pissed when he saw me. You see, they knew someone was looking for them and when it turned out to be a woman, well let’s just say he wasn’t worried when he saw me. He thought he could just beat me to death and leave me in a ditch where I wouldn’t be found. He actually told me that. Then he got the first hit in, I was stunned but still alive. He hauled back his arm to hit me again and Wolf charged him. Wolf tends to protect me and he takes that job very seriously. He grabbed the bastard by the throat and shook him. He ripped out the man’s throat and he was dead when he hit the ground.”

No one said a word as they all swiveled their gazes to the wolf-dog.

Looking disgusted like they were all wasting her time, she went on, “The second man took a bullet to the shoulder from me and kept coming. I shot him again in the leg and he went down. I tied him to a tree and gagged him, so he couldn’t call out for help. I left him there. I thought I heard someone else coming, so I went to look but I didn’t see anyone. When I went back, the second man was dead. Someone had slit his throat but it wasn’t me.”

“How do you know if you got the right man or not?” Boone wanted to know.

“Travis took a picture of the men just before they shot his dad. He was always taking pics with his phone. The kid is tech smart. When he witnessed that, his mind shut down and he didn’t remember for weeks. Then he showed the picture to me and I went hunting.”

“Can we see this picture?” Cotton asked.

She let out another sigh and bent her head back as if asking god for patience to deal with these men. Then she walked back to the table and sat down. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out her phone. She found the picture and handed over the phone.

When Cotton saw the third man, he hissed and handed the phone to his brother. Cobra stared at the photo and his eyes became hooded. He passed the phone to Pappy.

Her phone made it all the way around the table and ended up in Python’s hands. When he saw the photo, his hand nearly crushed the phone. He snapped his head up and glared at her. “This is your shooter?”

She nodded. “That’s the man who shot my brother, almost a year ago.”

Python shook his head. “He couldn’t have sweetheart. This man has been dead for eleven years. I should know, as I’m the one who fucking shot him. I watched him die. I saw him burn.”
