Sold To The Highest Bidder

Irene’s POV

Disgust coiled in my stomach as I watched the bubbling crowd from my cage.

Girls bound in chains and kept in glass cages on display should enrage any decent person.

But these men below us could barely contain their excitement.

People like me were made for this life.

For this stage.

The men that came here were always excited to see us.

While the Royal Pack didn’t allow Omegas to be treated less than other shifters, they had no control over people like me.

People like me were called the ‘koinks.’

Koinks had no right over their lives, and we were at the bottom of the food chain.

In any pack, they could do with koinks as they wanted, and my pack had decided to sell me to The Medallion in exchange for money.

“Bring the first girl out. Let’s see who would be the lucky man to have her.” The host commanded as he turned to us, eyes shining with anticipation.

My heart clenched as the cage that held Lyra and me was pulled open. The bulky man yanked her by the hair as he tried to pull her out of the cage.

“Don’t you dare!” I yelled, rage clouding my vision as I tried to crawl in front of Lyra. I had heard rumours that the first to be sold always fell in the hands of the cruellest ones.

“Tramp like you needs to be taught a lesson,” the man growled and then, with one swing of his arm, he had my head banging the hard glass two times.

A sharp pain shoots through me, and I see stars spinning in front of my eyes. In that split moment, Lyra had been pulled out of the cage and taken to the centre of the stage.

Loud shouts and grunts rang across the room before the host managed to control them.

“This koink is one of the five virgins we have. You know what that means?” He paused, allowing his words to have the intended effect he wanted.

If the hush that descended the room was anything to go, then he had done well.

“She would be going for $10,000!”

The room burst into a frenzy, and it seemed like they were dissatisfied with the price. But I was used to this. I knew it could never get too high for them.

Depraved bastards…

In minutes, Lyra’s bidding price skyrocketed to $30,000.

The host ordered her to stand, paying no mind to her b*dy shivering in fright from being so scantily dressed.

And being watched by so many of these maniacs.

“Going…. Going… $32,000! Goes to bidder 127 from bloodhound pack.” The host announced, and then within seconds, several men climbed the stage and took Lyra away from there. Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ (ꜰind)ɴʘvel.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Tears rolled down my eyes as I realised that after today, I was probably never going to see Lyra again. I would have no idea about the type of life she would have now.

Lyra… was the only one here that we came from the same pack, she had been taken from the pack weeks ago, and I had been shocked when I saw her here when I was dropped off about two weeks ago.

In truth, I didn’t believe that Lyra was a koink like me. But with some manipulation, I wasn’t surprised that she was pushed to this damned fate.

But for me, I was certain I was the worst of the koinks. I had a record.

In my nineteen years, not only had my parents died, my two fated mates, had both died before we could seal the mate bond.

And somehow, one of these men would lose their life because of me.

“Now to the next virgin we have here…” the host started, and the room regained its frenzied energy.

My breath caught in my throat as my cage was pulled open, and I was dragged out.

“This one is quite the beauty. Her starting price is $30,000!”

The room was silent for a while, but as soon as the beam of light fell on me, one man from the front seats broke the silence.

“$35,000!”

“$37,000!”

“$40,000!”

The numbers kept rising, and I could feel the excitement pulsing from the host. With every number called, he shifted his weight from one leg to another.

“$100,000”, someone called out, and the room became dead silent.

My eyes fall on the spot where the voice had sounded from. Piercing blue eyes locked on mine, and I felt a stirring pull within me, like a call deep within me as I stared at those eyes.

And yet, in the next second, he’s gone.

I blinked twice, unsure of what was happening, but no matter how many times I blinked, the seat was empty. The host’s voice pulls me out of my thoughts and back to the reality before me.

“$100,000. Going once, going twice…” with no opposition, the gravel slammed down and sealed my fate.

What was this? Some rich idiot had that much to spare for his death?

I hadn’t even gotten to bond with Jamie and Sawyer when they both fell limp and died. And now, this man here was paying $100,000 for his death?

Like Lyra, I was dragged down from the stage and then pushed into a room.

“Make her look stunning before she is sent to her buyer,” one of the men orders and then hands me over to some woman I had never seen before.

Even though I had spent two weeks at The Medallion, like every other girl, we were in chains that made sure we couldn’t access our powers or wolf.

And we were all locked up in a room until it was time for us to be auctioned off.

“I don’t have to do a lot,” the middle-aged woman said, but even then, her tightly drawn brows didn’t relax as she kept staring at my face.

Eventually, she turned away, and I followed her to the sole chair that was in the room.

“Your eyes have a confusing colour. I would stick to something really simple for you,” she said as she started to work on my hair.

Somehow, she must have guessed I didn’t care what she did because the next two hours were relatively silent.

But when she was done, I could barely recognise myself. She had styled my hair into large curls that framed my face.

And despite all the sharp corners my face had from malnutrition, she had brought out a delicate look with her brush.

Right on cue, the door opened, and two men got in.

“Good that she is ready. Her buyer is the impatient sort.” One of them said and then pushed me out of the room.

With one guard in front and the other one behind me, we soon stopped in front of another door.

He doesn’t get to knock before the door opens. The guard stepped aside, and I couldn’t help but gulp down as I saw the man standing before me.

I had thought that the guards in The Medallion were scary. Besides this man, they looked weak!

It was impossible for one person to be this huge.

“Hand over the key to her power lock,” the man says without bothering to look at me.

The guard hands him the key, and after inspecting it for a minute, he nods and waves his hands in dismissal.

When his eyes finally meet mine, I’m stunned by the warmth they carry.

What was going on?

“My master has some urgent matters to handle and has kept me in charge of your safety…”

“What? You aren’t my buyer?” I blurted out.

At the same time, I couldn’t help the sinking feeling in my heart for the first time.

If my buyer could make a man like this work for him, just how frightening was he?

“If you have nothing else to do here, I’ll lead you to our pack.” The man added.

I looked around the empty corridor of The Medallion and nodded my head.

Not like I had a choice anyway.

With his huge frame behind me, we walked out of The Medallion and finally stopped in front of two sleek black cars.

“Sorry to do this, but under command, you are not permitted to be awake while I bring you back.” The man said, and before I could process his words, the world went dark before my eyes.
