Irene. 

Maybe it was settling all my emotions about Noah and our mate bond, the classes felt a lot better. There were a lot of gazes. 

Some obvious pointing and head nudge in my direction, but none of it mattered. 

It could also be knowing how dedicated Noah was to learning despite all that he already had. I took notes and listened for as long as I could. 

By the time it was finally lunchtime, I felt like I had maxed out my brain cells. “Irene!” Luciana’s familiar voice called out, and my eyes fell on her from tracing her voice. 

Although I had to say, the call was a bad move as most people turned my way again, and it felt like the whispers in the cafeteria increased. 

“I didn’t think about how loud my voice was,” Luciana apologised as I stepped in front of her on the 

line. 

“I might have been mad, but considering that I don’t have to get on that queue and I can have meat, I forgive you.” 

Although, I would not have minded vegetables since I had my fill of meat during breakfast. 

“I asked around; it turns out that between the third years, everyone knows there’s nothing between Kyla and Prince Noah,” Luciana started as soon as we sat down at the same table from yesterday. 

My brows arched upwards as I did my best to appear interested. 

“I heard that all of the golden student thing, too, is just a faux and her grades aren’t anything over the top.” 

I took another gulp from my water before replying to her, “How did the other narrative spread then, and what was her exact reason for doing that.” 

Luciana shrugged. “There’s no way to know. The only thing I can tell you is that, in the Lycan Empire, reputation is a currency” 

“The life that Kyla has had within and outside the walls of the academy would be changing very quickly.”

I took another look at Luciana from underneath my lashes, studying her 

After all regardless of what happened, she had been the one to give me the information. More unportantly, I was confused about why Luciana would let herself get bullied by those three men when he had a supernatural gift. 

All she needed to do was run, right? 

“One of those guys had super speed, too.” Liv chipped in, and I gave her a mental nod 

Since she had been able to observe the battle even better than me, it made sense that she remembered all the details even better. 

“I don’t want the three of them.” Luciana spoke up, my brows raised in confusion. 

She locked away, breaking eye contact before she replied. “I don’t like the three of them and don’t want to become their breeder. However, if they know that I have already manifested some power just like they guessed. they would become even more persistent.” 

My stomach clenched at her plight. “Is becoming a breeder something you have no choice about?” A part of me couldn’t help but wonder why they would have given me a contract if they didn’t have to make it seem consensual to anyone. 

Luciana sighed. “It isn’t I could sense there was a clause, and it came soon after. 

“But my parents don’t mind. The three of them are from families in the council. if I’m with them. my father gets a chance to join the Empire’s council” 

“He has wanted that for as long as I remember she added as an afterthought. 

For a moment. I hated myself for doubting her. 

I also wished I could help her. maybe think of a solution to get them off her back, but I didn’t want to rush things. Maybe if Noah wasn’t lying, I could ask him for help. 

“I think hiding your gift is the best we can do now If anyone asks. you can tell them I have the gift of speed.” I told her, and a picture of Alek questioning me about this was formed in my mind. 

Her eyes lit up. and she leaned forward to grab my hand. 

“You would do that for me? What if anyone asks you to use your gif” Her face fell at her last 

suggestion. 

I had the same fear, too, but I shrugged it of 

“I don’t have to talk to anyone here. Besides, there’s nothing on my class schedule that would need me to exhibit any gift. 

She eventually nodded and then threw a piece of meat in her mouth.

“Even though we just met. I feel like I wouldn’t know what to do without you already,” she confessed, and I chuckled, grateful that I had this at the very least. 

After lunch, the classes were a lot more bearable and before long, the bell for the last period rang. 

My entire b*dy was tingling as I stepped out of the classroom, a little too excited to see Noah. 

The best way to get away from Sam was to avoid him. The guy was built like a mountain, and I didn’t doubt that he would have any difficulty throwing me over his shoulder and sending me back home, which would suck because I was looking forward to meeting Noah. 

“Irene!” Noah’s familiar voice echoed from behind me, and I turned back with a grin. 

The relief that rushed through me was nothing I expected, and I walked to him, closing the gap 

between us. 

“You are here.” I mumbled my eyes fixed on him and my heart thumping in my chest. 

This was my fated mate. 

“I’m here.” he replied and then grabbed my hand. 

I don’t know if it’s the bond, but I bit my l*ps from holding back a moan from that simple action.
