Irene’s POV 

Elton’s words were sharp; even though it was true, I couldn’t help the slight pang of pain that shot through me. 

“Elton.” Alek called out, pulling me out of my thoughts. His voice is low, but I can’t help but shiver at the power that pushes at the table from that one word. 

Even with my power locked away, I could feel how much power was contained within him behind those amber eyes. 

“Irene is our mate. Behind closed doors and outside these doors. That’s not going to change.” 

I had expected Elton to relent. Not only was Alek older than him with a considerable gap, but he was also the King and his Alpha. 

However, Elton pushes back with strength as fierce as his brother, and I can see Noah clenching his fist from the suppression he is releasing. 

I did not doubt that if I was linked to my wolf, I would be subjected to the same amount of suppression, and there was no way I could stand against something this fierce and brutal. 

“If a little clean up and fancy dress is enough to deceive you guys, then you can prance around this koink.”

I half expect Elton to stand up and leave the way he had done earlier today, but he doesn’t.

I don’t know why, but I find myself nodding my head at his every instruction 

It was probably the Alpha pull that he had on every shifter.

The rest of the dinner is uneventful, and it’s not surprising that Elton is at the fastest speed and leaves the room without a word. 

As soon as he left. Alek used his hand to ruffle Noah’s hair, and as their gazes mes, I could see Noah’s brotherly affection and reliance on Alek from that simple action.

Alek doesn’t say anything to me as he leaves right after that

My face fell, and he probably noticed it, so he added hurriedly. 

“However, if you don’t act out of line, my brother might tell you eventually.” 

I nod in understanding, and my mind finally registers what he just said. 

“Did you just say the Lycan Empire?” I asked, my eyes widening

“Yes. You are in the Lycan Empire, and this is the Royal Palace that rules the Empire.” 

My mouth slackened, and I shook my head twice, unable to believe what he said.

The Lycan Empire was like heaven. A place that small packs and Rogue Lycans could only dream about and never see it. Because even though they had control over every Lycan and maintained the balance between shifters and humans, no one knew where they stayed. 

It was also general knowledge that anyone who trailed a messenger from here has yet to return. Eventually, people gave up on their search and just followed the commands from their high 

throne. 

And now, Noah was saying I was in there. In the Lycan Empire!

As we round another hallway, we run into another group of maids who look at us and then scurry

around here. In the next few days, you might get a lot of excited maids wondering who you are,” Noah warns in a joking tone 

But my 

ears picked something really important. His cousins. This meant that other than them, they had some other family in the palace. Knowing that made me feel a little relieved. 

The palace was grand and majestic, but I didn’t want to live the remaining years of my shifter life locked up in this palace. 

Back in my pack, as an orphan, I had to work to earn the care I got from the pack, and most of my time was spent on chores and errands.

Even though I knew I was no princess, just being in this dress made me feel like one. 

I tuned out Noah’s occasional ramblings and just tried to keep up with his long steps. 

It was only when he stopped, and I looked up that I realised we were now in front of my quarters.
