Chapter 321

Hattie Zimmer was raised in Crystalbrook Valley and naturally had a soft spot for the two sons of Neil’s

brother.

When Neil proposed to Lillian, Hattie was totally against it. She thought Lillian’s body was not up for the

task of childbirth. She even feuded with Neil over this, but he ultimately convinced her.

After Neil married, Hattie was pissed to find out Lillian was already pregnant before the wedding.

If she’d known about the pregnancy beforehand, she would’ve saved herself the 300 bucks she spent

on the wedding gift. She gave Lillian a piece of her mind that night, accusing her of hiding the

pregnancy and thereby hiking up her own value!

So, the day Neil and Lillian marned, Hattie threw them into the near–collapsing side house and took

back her wedding gift.

Lillian was an artist. Her family was alright, but they definitely weren’t rolling in dough.

And by that time, her family was pretty much dwindled, which pissed Hattie off even more.

No family support meant no money, and getting married into the Pennyfeather family just meant she

was at their mercy, right?

Neil seemed to be quite into Lillian and had several arguments with his parents over her.

Then, right after Lillian gave birth, Neil took her off to Greenfield. Everyone was sure they were living

hard in Greenfield and thus stopped contacting them to avoid them asking for money.

Who would’ve thought that he actually moved into a mansion in Greenfield?!

He hadn’t contacted them for all these years!

Hattie was fuming as if her own money had been wasted!

Maja sat quietly on the couch, “Weren’t you the one who said that we shouldn’t contact each other?”

Those were the exact words they spat out when they were swinging brooms at people back in

Crystalbrook Valley.

Maja’s eyes shone brightly as she stared down Hattie,

“You said it yourself that people of no worth shouldn’t be stepping foot into the Penny feather

household.”

Hattie’s face froze. She had said those words and didn’t expect Maja to remember them so clearly.

Maja, I’m your grandmother! Don’t you know how to show respect? Your parents clearly didn’t raise you

right. Well, let me teach you a lesson today!”

In Crystalbrook Valley, it wasn’t uncommon for a wife to be hit by her mother–in–law. Hattie had a fair

share of history in that department, and even Lillian had taken a few hits.

Hattie was a tough cookie and kept pushing for more grandkids. She urged Lillian to have another one

right after she gave birth to the first and suggested discarding the newborn daughter.

There were quite a few abandoned baby girls at the hospital back then, as every family wanted a son.

The poorer the place, the more they wanted boys..

Maja found this ridiculous, but she also wanted to know why Hattie Zimmer and Abram Penny feather

were here today.

Hattie was already advancing, arm raised to slap Maja, but Maja caught her wrist and shoved her back.

Although Hattie was physically fit, she was no longer young and nearly fell from the push.

She stared at Maja in disbelief, “You dare to push me?”

Maja was getting impatient and turned to Cristina. S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FindNʘᴠᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Cristina, you’re the lady of the Pennyfeather family now. Aren’t you going to do something about this?”

Cristina stood silently to the side, trying her best to blend into the background while watching Maja

argue with the two.

Now that her name was brought up, she feigned innocence and looked up.

“Maja, they’re Neil’s parents. What can I do?”

Hattie was about to blow up, but Cristina’s words took some wind out of her sails.

Hattie said, “At least there’s one sensible person here. You must be Cristina, right? You’re the one

running things around here now, aren’t you? This is our first visit, shouldn’t you give us some cash, like

say a couple of ten–thousands, as a sign of respect? And you haven’t been in touch with Neil’s brother

for a while. Did you know he’s in Greenfield too? He bought a house, 70 square meters, which cost him

over half a million dollars. A thirty–year mortgage. Neil didn’t give him a dime back then. Shouldn’t you

help him pay off his mortgage now?”
