

Summary
Death and Fortune is a sword and superstition historical fantasy, set during the fall of Hungary 1526. The young educated humanist, Manfred Lock, becomes the new Bishop of Eisenberg. The ambitious countess plots with her Lutheran lover to overthrow Lock and seize power. The count fights his way home from the war in the South while the the Turkish sultan sends his spies north. Eisenberg begins to seethe with unrest, while the strange murder of Joseph, the Miller's son, betrothed to the beautiful daughter of a Jewish merchant set of a chain events that will entangle the protagonists in a grim plot.
