Chapter 65 Barge In

soon as these words were spoken, someone immediately voiced their grievance, “Ms. Shelley, even though you were the one who established Fashn Group, we’ve been the ones managing and operating it these past few years. Do you really think we’d want anything but the best for the company?”

The speaker was the chief financial officer of the corporation who usually treated Cynthia with great respect. Everyone else chimed in agreement with him.

Really?” Cynthia raised an eyebrow, opened the drawer to her left, and pulled out a folder that she placed in front of him.

The chief financial officer, with a puzzled expression, accepted the document. But as soon as he glanced at it, his face turned pale.

“Ms. Shelley!” The chief financial officer’s voice was filled with urgency and a hint of appeasement. “I agree with everything you’ve said. I’ll get right on making improvements, and I promise you’ll see results within a month!”

There was a plea in his eyes, and Cynthia, for her part, didn’t harbor any treating him ruthlessly. She gave a slight nod.

The chief financial officer let out a sigh, turned, and left the office without allowing anyone to see that particular folder.

“I have plenty more of the same kind here. Would you all like to take a look?” Cynthia’s gaze swept over everyone. All of them quickly averted their eyes, hastily saying, “No need! No need! We’ll go make the corrections right away.”

Even without seeing the contents of the folder, just by looking at the expression on the chief financial officer’s face, they knew the situation wasn’t as straightforward as it seemed.

Cynthia only leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes after everyone had left the office.

Despite her constant vigilance, the corporation had been infiltrated by quite a few individuals. To catch each one of them would require a considerable amount of effort and strategic planning.

At that very moment, the office door was abruptly swung open by someone.

Cynthia had assumed someone had left and returned, so she casually asked, “Is there something else?”

Marcus caught up to the person pushing the door open and said, “Mr. Zeller, Ms. Shelley is currently in a meeting. We kindly ask you to…”

Suddenly, Cynthia’s eyes snapped open, and sure enough, she saw Colton standing at the doorway, his gaze intensely fixed on her.

Upon seeing his reaction, Cynthia knew that Phillip must have relayed the conversation she had with Yoel to him.  S~ᴇaʀᴄh the ꜰindNʘvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Mr. Zeller, to what do we owe the pleasure of your visit?” Cynthia frowned as she looked at him.

Colton cast a casual glance at Marcus. “Get out,” he said nonchalantly.

Taken aback, Marcus made no move. Instead, he turned his gaze toward Cynthia.

Colton raised an eyebrow, and after a moment of hesitation, Cynthia gave a slight nod. “You” should wait outside for now.”

Marcus turned away, and as soon as Colton turned around, he locked the door.

Cynthia instantly became alert. “What are you trying to do?”

Colton didn’t respond. He simply walked step by step toward her desk. His slender fingers traced the surface of the desk, abruptly pulling Cynthia’s office chair closer and narrowing the distance between them.

“Are those two children Yoel’s?” His voice was low and husky, carrying a hint of danger that made Cynthia’s hair stand on end.

She averted her gaze, striving not to meet his eyes. “What difference does it make?” she asked. “We’re already divorced. I’ve never wronged you.”

Colton reached out, gently grasping her chin, compelling her to meet his gaze.

“You fell in love with Yoel at first sight? You had kids with him?” Colton asked, his words. measured and deliberate.

Cynthia knew that if she acted suspiciously, it would inevitably arouse Colton’s doubts. She discreetly dug her fingernails into her palm, forcing herself to meet Colton’s gaze. “Yes. What else did you think was the reason I became Yoel’s fiancée? The original plan was to wait until after the wedding to let the children reunite with their biological family, but now you’ve discovered it prematurely.”

“I don’t believe it,” Colton said, having somehow crossed over the office desk at some point. He placed his hands on either side of Cynthia’s executive office chair, looking down at her from above. “You’re someone who cherishes long–term relationships. There’s no way you could have fallen for Yoel at first sight.”

Even though the words were clearly meant as a compliment, Cynthia couldn’t help but

interpret them as sarcasm, no matter how she heard them.

She forcefully pushed away Colton’s hand, scoffing coldly. “I’ve spent so many years proving that long–term love doesn’t end well. How could I possibly make the same mistake again? Falling in love at first sight isn’t so bad. At least it gave me two lovely children and a fiancé who adores me, right?”
