DELILAH

My eyes widened and a shiver ran all over my body. My father told me harshly that I was to blame for Zamiel's death and that I had killed him with a gun...

I felt my lip start to tremble and something inside me exploded like a grenade.

I hadn't killed Zamiel... Or had I? No, it must be a lie!

"You're lying to me..." I whispered softly, still looking at him in shock. How could he say such a bad thing about me? He was my father and nobody else? Was he trying to get back at me because I had chosen Zamiel?

Ilay Edevane... Ilay Edevane... Why did that name sound so familiar?

My father shook his head and remained in his seat.

"I'm sorry, Delilah, but you shot him with your own hands," he confirmed again, making me keep my distance.

I looked down at my hands, which were now shaking as well, and for some reason an inner feeling confirmed to me that it was true...

It couldn't be... I would never kill anyone.

"I can't believe you," I whispered softly, shaking my head several times.

"I DIDN'T KILL HIM!" I shouted angrily at my father.

He shook his head: "You didn't... You were practically forced to kill him... Can't you remember that?" my father asked me again.

That couldn't be, no, no NO!

I could feel my heart beating faster. I was overcome by a panic attack.

I jumped out of bed and ran up and down the room.

"No... it can't be, you're lying to me, WHY ARE YOU LYING TO ME?" I screamed at him again and stood rooted to the spot. I felt my blood boil and it was as if my emotions were on a rollercoaster. It was surreal.

I pinched myself hoping it was some kind of dream, but it wasn't. It was reality.

"Delilah ... we both know that's true, unfortunately," he confirmed to me one more time.

"I brought you to Nael after he died. You worked here and took care of the accounts ... Nael wanted to protect you from Ilay," he continued. Something like a light went on inside me.

"You can call me Nael. We'll still have a lot to do together, these formalities are taking up a lot of our time"

"As in every city, paying taxes, insurance and much more is the order of the day. It's the same in the demon kingdom and your job will now be to manage all the payments made and keep a record of them."

"Listen Delilah ... I know my brother messed up, but you can't lump us all together..."

"No. You've already done everything I needed help with. This time I'd like to take you to dinner, do you fancy it?"

"Isn't it the pain that changes us, Delilah? Ilay has had to wait the longest of us for his mate. While I found my mate and lost her again, for him it was an eternal wait of over a thousand and three hundred years. When he finally found her, he had to share her and reject her in the end... That doesn't excuse his actions, but it explains them.

All these words shot through my head like lightning bolts, but I couldn't understand how they were connected.

I ran backwards and bumped into the wall... All these words, these accusations... They confirmed to me that Ilay had actually forced me to do something I wasn't capable of.

Suddenly I started to cry and sob without being able to control myself.

It couldn't be... I had really killed Zamiel, and I felt an indescribable pain, as if my heart was broken.

"No... No... Why did he do that? Why did he make me kill him? I had forgiven him... I never wanted anyone to die because of me.... WHY?" I screamed tearfully at my father and sobbed again.

He held out his hand to me and tried to get closer to me.

"Don't touch me... Ilay... and YOU! YOU FORCED ME TO DO IT!" I screamed at the top of my voice, slapping his hand away from me.

The situation of Ilay standing behind me was pictured in my head.

"Mmm, take a deep breath and exhale, Laylah," Ilay prompted me. He stood behind my back so that I could feel his breath on my skin.

"Take the gun and point it at his head."

"I'll count to three, then you shoot," he told me.

I still remember sweating and the beads of sweat on my forehead.

At that moment, I prayed for myself and asked myself what value my life should still have?

"Close your eyes, maybe that will help you," Ilay had whispered to me.

"One... two..." before Ilay could say three, I had already pulled the trigger.

Crying and barely able to control my breathing, I fell to my knees.

My strength left me and I cried my heart out.

"NO! I didn't want this... You made me do something I never wanted to do! You are MONSTERS!" I screamed at him and fell to my knees.

My own father and Ilay had forced me to do such a horrible thing.

"Delilah, you need to calm down," I heard a male voice pull me into his arms.

"I can't... I can't!" I sobbed violently, beating against Nael's chest as he held me tightly and wouldn't let go.

I felt myself getting weaker and weaker and all my strength was leaving me again. Why was I being punished with the death of a human being? I had resigned myself to his rejection... I could have lived with it, it would never have occurred to me to take revenge on someone.

The blows against Nael's chest slowed and a familiar smell caught up with me as my eyes drifted shut and I lost consciousness again.

NAEL

I looked angrily at Chris and was beside myself: "Is that how you were going to tell her? By bringing her to the brink of despair?" I snapped at him as I picked Delilah up in my arms and put her back on the bed. I didn't let her out of my arms again.

"How else was I supposed to say it, Nael? It's the truth, sad as it may be, she'll remember it, sooner or later, eventually it was!" said Chris with a look at me.

I snorted angrily and shook my head... Delilah had been through enough and triggering her memories through her wounds could end dangerously. When I walked into the room after hearing her scream, I found her crying and shaking, she was a mess.

I should have taken matters into my own hands from the start... Chris may be her father, but he was an officer and always behaved like one. There was probably never a time when he was able to be empathetic...

"What does she remember?" I finally asked, breathing in and out to calm myself down again.

While I let Ragnol and Erol come in, I gently laid Delilah's head on the pillow and covered her up to her shoulders.

"Erol, I want you to examine her physically and Ragnol, I would be grateful if you and Erol could find a way to restore her memory," I said.

Ragnol smiled at me and shook his head "That won't work my dear..." he replied with a glance at Delilah.

"Let me guess. The solution is right under my nose?" I asked him, annoyed and really not in the mood for any games.

He shrugged his shoulders and looked at me, "You know, Selene, the moon goddess, she's a bloody bitch," he replied with a grin, making me wonder where he always got this information from.

"Are you in contact with her or what?" I asked Ragnol, while Chris eyed him suspiciously as well.

"Well, how can I explain this. My history is known for having betrayed my mate, the witch Helena..." Ragnol finally said, looking at me.

I frowned in confusion and raised an eyebrow "You had something with Selene?" I asked him, visibly irritated.

He shook his head: "No, not with her, with her daughter. Selene and I get on very well, that's why she sometimes puts information into my head. I'm your joker, so to speak, use it while you can, otherwise I'll soon be gone," Ragnol replied, clapping his hands.

"You're not really helping, because apart from "The solution is right in front of you", you're not saying much else," I replied and looked at Delilah, who looked like she was asleep.

"I'm sure you'll manage, Nael," Ragnol said and disappeared from the room again.

My mobile phone vibrated and I looked at it.

RYAN: How's Delilah doing?

NAEL: Bad, she's got amnesia...

RYAN: Damn, you're not serious, are you?

NAEL: Unfortunately, I am... I don't know what to do, her dad's trying to teach her the unusual way... She broke down, great, right?

RYAN: Hmm... Maybe take her to places and bring back positive memories? You know the places I mean ;) The dirty, dirty ones ;) ;)

I rolled my eyes and pocketed my mobile phone again.

Ryan wasn't entirely wrong, because an idea actually popped into my head. I pinched my nose and sighed softly.

"I'll do it myself with Delilah," it wasn't information, but more of an instruction, implying that I wanted to be alone with her.

"Good luck Nael, you're going to need it," Chris said and walked out.

I grabbed the chair that was in Delilah's room and settled down next to Delilah.

I was back to square one and didn't know where to start. The most important thing was to do the opposite of Chris. To take a calm approach and rebuild trust with her... That was probably easier said than done, because Delilah was visibly confused and couldn't really follow many things. It was as if she had to put many pieces of the puzzle together.

I would help her complete this puzzle and then take care of the "Ilay" problem.

I could only hope that Ilay would hold back for a while longer, because if he was here, chaos would be inevitable - even Delilah would no longer be safe.

I had to make sure he didn't find out about her amnesia. Because in the worst case scenario, he would kidnap her and Delilah's fainting spells would be the least of her problems after what she had just experienced. It would probably end in a heart attack.
