With one hand holding hers, the other stroking her stomach, I am completely fucking numb.

“Come on, angel. Come back to me.”

I can’t do this without her. The thought of having to rip her heart out when she wakes up makes me want to vomit.

She went straight into surgery and it was the worst two hours of my life. They managed to remove the glass and fix any internal damage. The scans showed there is no major head trauma. A few broken ribs, she’s going to be fine.

That’s the only thing keeping me together.

I squeeze her hand tighter. We have lost our future. Our baby is gone.

I stroke my thumb along the front of her hand. I’m so distracted in my own head, I don’t hear Grayson come through the door.

“Any improvements?” Grayson asks, and I shake my head.

“Keller?” I ask.

The pain flashes across his face.

“The surgery went as well as they could hope. They stopped the bleeding on his brain. It’s all on him waking up now. He’s in an induced coma.”

Fuck. I will forever be grateful to Keller. He saved Zara’s life.

“Did you call Luca?”

“He’s on his way home, boss. We need all of our family together to get through this.”

I let out a shaky breath.

My family is lying next to me on a hospital bed.

I rub my eyes. I’m almost too tired to think. “Have Enzo pick them up. Rosa can stay with Maddie and the kids at the safe house. Luca needs to be here with his brother.”

“You got it.”

“Where’s Jax?”

“More than life. I’d take her fucking place in a heartbeat.” I bow my head, not being able to say anymore.

Grayson’s eyes go wide, fixating on my hand over the bandages on her stomach.

“Fuck. I’m so sorry.”

“I don’t need sorry, Grayson. I do need something else.”

“Anything.”

“Make sure Alex has been delivered back to our safe house and get the location of the girls. Tell Enzo we need Mikhail. I’m done fucking around. We’re ending this.”

“How much will the Russians want this time?”

“Like I said, I’d give my life. It doesn’t matter.”

“Got it.” As he turns to leave, he stops. “Let us know about Zara, Frankie. We are all here for whatever you both need.”

“Thank you, G. Keep me updated on Keller, and don’t leave Jax on his own.”

He gives me a curt nod and quietly shuts the door, leaving me with just my thoughts.

I squeeze my eyes shut. All I can see are the flames. The way her lifeless body felt in my arms. I trace circles around the engagement ring I slipped back on a little while ago.

Gently, I lift her hand to my lips and plant a soft kiss on her skin.

“I will make up for this. I will prove to you every day for the rest of our lives how much I love you. Let me worship you. Wake up, dolcezza. Please? I fucking need you, baby.” I rest my head against her hand as my heart rapidly thumps in my chest.

I’ve fucked this up again.

But she’s still alive. I know my girl is strong.

We can get through this, and we will burn the fucking world down, together.
