It's the day we leave camp and I'm completely miserable. My body has just been working on autopilot walking, eating, and talking because I can't comprehend what's happening.

Avery's not coming back with me

My mate left me

I'm not sure when I'll see her again

Last night in bed I didn't touch her. There was no sex, cuddling or even telling each other good night. She just showered and then slipped into bed facing away from me. We were both too upset and angry to speak to the other. Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the FɪndNøvel.ɴᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Now she's gone and I'm headed home. My family's private jet is flying through the air while my mate is flying in the opposite direction. My wolf Titan has completely blocked me. He's so distraught and angry I didn't fight for her harder to come with us. He's not talking to me either, I'm alone.

When the plane finally lands I realize I just spent the last few hours staring out of the window. I didn't speak, or go to the restroom and I'm not even sure if I was even breathing. My mind just kept racing over the last three days with my mate and how I wish I could restart them and do it all over again. Maybe if I told her I loved her more then she would be here.

"Kai the cars here. Are you okay?" Matt asks and I nod.

"I'm fine," I answer. It's the same line I've been repeating since Avery hugged me and got into her cab. I figure if I say it enough then maybe it'll be true.

"Well, we shouldn't keep your dad waiting." Matt continues and the fog that was surrounding my brain evaporates.

"What? My dad's here? Why didn't anyone tell me?" I growl in frustration and stand up. Matt throws up his hands to surrender as I get in his face.

"Kai you've been completely out of it since Avery left. We tried to talk to you the whole plane ride but it's like you weren't even here."

"I'm fine." I lie again.

Matt shakes his head. "You're not but I suggest you pretend you are. If your dad smells even a hint of weakness then-"

"Yeah, I know how he is. I grew up with the dictator Matt. Let's just get this over with." I interrupt him and make my way off of the jet.

As I walk down the stairs I see my dad's towncar on the tarmac. His driver an elderly wolf named Leo stands next to the door. He greets me by calling me young alpha when I approach and then opens the door for me.

"Finally. I thought you broke your legs you were so slow getting off the jet." my dad complains as I sit next to him. His black pompadour hair is styled perfectly and he has a few more wrinkles than when I saw him days ago.

"So why did you pick me up? You normally don't play taxi driver?" I ask and he groans.

"Well, Kai if you checked your messages then you would know why. We have a few meetings we have to attend so I brought a suit for you to change into."

The meetings passed by in a blur and now were finally on our way home. I still can't seem to focus on anything. Dad talks away on his phone to someone while I just stare out of the window. Like always my thoughts go back to Avery.

When I woke up this morning she was gone. She had left a note with her phone number saying she had gone back to her room to pack. I didn't hear from her again until she texted me saying her cab would be there soon.

I wasn't going to say goodbye to her. I was still upset and my wolf retreating to the back of my mind didn't help. Matt was the one to convince me to say bye to her. He told me I would regret it and it might help my wolf to see her.

He was right because seeing her one last time made it real. Titan seeing his mate climb into a taxi and drive away from us only hurt him further. He whined and cried for his mate just adding more to my already pained heart. I understand her reasons for leaving but I'm so selfish because I just want her with me.

There was no kiss goodbye and no promises to see each other soon. Just a lingering hug that felt like it lasted forever but really was only a few seconds. My shirt still smells like her and I wish I was still wearing it instead of this stupid suit.

When the car stops outside the packhouse I'm the first one out. I head inside and up the stairs to the fifth floor where my office is. I slam the door closed and immediately go over to my desk and flip it over. I grab my chair and throw it too.

"Fuck! Fuck!" I shout as I break as many things as possible.

After my office looks like a tornado hit it I stare at the multiple holes in the wall I just punched. I didn't think leaving her would be this hard. We're mates were supposed to be together. The first few weeks of finding your mate are supposed to be a happy time. We should be together right now not thousands of miles apart.

My office door opens but I don't even turn around to see who it is. They place their hand on my shoulder and I take a few deep breaths trying not to cry. I'm a strong alpha wolf. I shouldn't be acting like this. I need to pull myself together. I'm just so angry and hurt.

I push whoever it is away. "I'm fine." I lie for the last time.

"No, you're not Kai. You miss your mate. Everyone within a hundred-mile radius can feel how upset you are. You need to pull it together. The pack needs you. Why don't you just call Avery? Talking to her will at least make the distance less miserable."

My head snaps in his direction. The anger that was always pent up before is back and stronger than ever. "No! She made her choice and that wasn't me. If she wants to talk to me then she can call!"

Matt shrugs and points at the floor. "Well looks like she's calling you now. Are you going to answer?"

I stare at my phone watching it ring. Titan starts bouncing in my head eager to hear his mate's voice. I grab my phone and hit the answer button. I don't say anything just wait for her to respond.

"Kai, are you there? It's Avery," she whispers and I sigh in relief hearing her voice and she continues. "I'm so sorry for how I acted. I feel terrible. I was so selfish!"

"I'm sorry too." slips from my lips before I can catch myself.

"I really miss you. I didn't think you would answer my call." she rambles and I can't help but smile at her concern. "I know I have no right to ask considering how I treated you but I wanted to know if you would come to my graduation. My parents have a dinner planned after and we could tell them about us and then-"

"I'll be there." I interrupt her and she sounds surprised.

"Really you will?"

"Yes, I promise. I'll be there front row cheering you on little mate."

She starts crying on the phone and I can hear her sniffling trying to stop. "I don't deserve you, Kai. You're the best. I love you so much!"

"I love you, Avery. I'll see you at your graduation."

I don't care what future plans I have Avery is my mate and I want to support her. And after her graduation, I'm going to drag her back to my pack where she belongs. Nobody will stop me from taking what's mine.
