The party is way more fun than I expected. Bea, Kayla, and I have been drinking and dancing the night away. Normally I don’t drink but I wanted to let loose. To forget all my responsibilities back home and relax.

Many guys have tried to approach us but I ignored them. Kayla also told them to screw off but Bea wanted to entertain them. She flirted with a few and danced with them but since they weren't her mate they didn't stick around long.

After hours of dancing, I had only spotted Scott once. He winked at me as he walked by with a girl glued to his side. I was creeped out still but happy he was leaving me alone. Bea and Kayla went to get more drinks so now I'm dancing alone.

As I dance to some random pop song I hear a deep angry growl. I turn around wondering if it was directed at me or someone else and that’s when I see him. He's over six feet tall now. His black hair is shorter on the sides and his brown eyes seem more golden. His perfect jaw is clenched as he glares at me.

“Kai?”

“Avery?” He asks confused. But I'm just as confused. I haven’t seen him in years yet he looks exactly the same except more handsome and muscular.

I take a step closer to him. “Kai oh my gosh!” I run up to him and throw my arms around his neck hugging him. He wraps his arm around my waist and spins me around.

He sits me down gently and the smile I always loved is back. “Aves I never thought I would see you again. H-how? Wh-hat are you doing here?” He stumbles over his words and I can’t help but blush.

My hands are on his chest as I lightly laugh. “I’m sure I’m here for the same thing as you, to find my mate. Did you find yours yet?” I ask and my wolf Raven whimpers at the thought of him having a mate.

Kai shakes his head. “Come let’s talk.” He grabs my hand and just like before it's still a perfect fit. He leads me through the crowd of people who seem to part as he walks. I knew he's an Alpha but everyone seems to part like the Red Sea. Afraid to touch him, strange.

We make it the large packhouse that is quite empty due to the party. Everyone seems to be back at the beach. Continuing through the cafeteria we make it into the elevator where he pushes me against the wall. I'm shocked as he presses his body into mine. I'm caged between his arms and I can feel his hardness grinding against my dress.

His nose brushes against the crook of my neck. "Avery you smell fucking divine," he whispers.

"Kai."

"I know you feel it, the pull. We're mates."

I shake my head. "It's not our birthday yet. We can't be sure."

He growls and his lips brush my earlobe. "You're mine Avery." his hand slides up my thigh and he squeezes my ass. "Don't deny what you're feeling."

Kai pushes the button for the elevator to start. I didn't even realize we weren't moving. He then begins peppering kisses along my neck. I'm so wet already it's hard to deny I want him. Truth is he's right. Nobody has ever made me feel the way Kai does. My body begs to be taken by him and my heart has always belonged to the one boy I couldn't have, the alpha's son.

The stopping of the elevator makes Kai pull away. We make eye contact and he grabs my hand pulling me into his room. I look around shocked at the amazing apartment. He's living in luxury while me and my friends are in a shack.

Crap my friends?

He ignores my statement and pulls me onto a couch. He sits down and I straddle his lap. My mouth opens to protest but he starts peppering kisses along my neck again and I melt into his embrace.

"Fuck Ave's I've missed you so much," he whispers along my skin.

A moan escapes me as he kisses along the crook of my neck where my mate will mark me. His hands are gripping my waist as I grind against his hard member.

He growls and starts pulling on the straps of my dress when I realize this is going way too far. We're not eighteen yet. We might feel a pull towards each other but that doesn't necessarily mean we're mates. We've been best friends for so long that we've always had a bond.

This is wrong

I manage to pull myself away and stand up. Kai's golden eyes are full of lust and confusion as he stares at me. "What's wrong? Too fast?" he asks and I shake my head.

"Kai this is wrong! We have no idea if we're mates. I can't do this with you. I'm saving myself for my mate I'm sorry."

He growls and his eyes flash telling me his wolf is present. "Avery. We're mates. I feel it and if you would relax and get out of your head you would feel it too." he stands up and grabs my hand. He sighs and I can tell he's frustrated. "Look I don't want to pressure you if you're not ready. I'm sorry but I feel a pull towards you and I couldn't control it."

I nod. "Can we just take things slow, please? At least until our birthday, I just want to make sure. I mean I've never even kissed a boy before."

"I've never kissed a girl either Aves. I've been waiting for my mate also," he confesses and I gasp.

"Really?"

"Yes. I know it's weird to think of an alpha as not some huge player but... I've just never wanted anyone but you." he smiles and I can feel the walls I have guarding my heart come down.

I can't stop blushing. "Can we just start over? Maybe watch a movie and talk."

He nods. "Sounds good I'll grab some snacks while you pick a movie."

When Kai returns to the couch he has a handful of snacks; pretzels, popcorn, and my favorite Skittles. He opens a bag of my favorite candy and hands it to me.

"You remembered?"

"I remember everything about you, Avery. Even when you peed the bed all over your Barbie blankets." he laughs and I playfully push him.

"You jerk I was five!"

He smiles his perfect white teeth and I swear my heart melts at how handsome he is. "You're right now tell me what you have been up to. Where did you guys move to?"

"We moved to the Stars Hollow pack. Our alpha's name is Craig Burnett. He has two sons and a daughter. My dad is a lawyer there obviously and I graduate high school finally in three weeks."

"Stars Hollow pack? that's so far. No wonder I never heard from you."

I nod. "Yeah, it's completely on the other side of the country. I missed back home though. It took me a while to make new friends again."

Kai grabs my hand and presses a kiss on my knuckles. "I'll always be your best friend Avery. Home sucked without you too. I'm glad we found each other again."

I lean my head on his shoulder and he wraps his arm tighter around me. I don't say much else as our movie starts. Throughout the movie Kai would tell me about home and how alpha training was going. He even told me about his mom passing away two years ago and how hard it was.

We continued to cuddle and watch movie after movie until I started to feel tired. I try to resist but eventually, my heavy lids win the battle and my eyes flutter closed. Kai is still with me so I know for once I won't have any nightmares.
