Chapter 9: Do or Die

Meanwhile back at the Mendoza house in the prime dimension, Andrea was losing her shit. It had been 4 days since finding out that her daughter is alone and possibly hurt in an alternate dimension. The worst part was that she was powerless to do anything except wait until the gods figure out the exact dimension, out of millions. Andrea's mother, Julie, and her best friend; Paula came and stayed for a few hours each day which helped, but couldn't stop the breakdown that had been building all week. After coming back from the store, Jay saw Andrea on the floor upset, so he tried to comfort Andrea a bit more but she said "Jay please get out of my face before I have to ruin yours" and jay sighed and said "I was only trying to help" and she looked at him and said, "well look at where your hands off technique fucking got us...our daughter's missing and who's fault is it?...mines for listening to you so do me a favor and stay outta my sight". Jay frowned and said "now you're blowing things out of proportion" and she said, "you know if you weren't so cute I would probably walk out right now and take Victoria with me, you unfit father". Jay had enough and without smelling the alcohol on Andrea's breath and seeing the bottles on the floor, he raised both his hands up before walking out the front door, getting in his truck, and driving off. Andrea fell to her knees after realizing she had just berated the very man who had dedicated his life to her and Victoria and in the moment where she needed him most, she tore him down and pushed him Andrea sat alone in her office drinking and listening to the silent halls of the once bustling house, wondering how she could've messed up so horribly. Meanwhile, jay sat on the couch in his office at work, trying to figure out what in the hell made her act like that, Andrea was never verbally abusive like this...ever not even when he accidentally let Victoria fall off her bike and cut her arm horribly...he was absolutely shocked more than angry...and he was Angry but he figured that he should go back and be with her even if she does push him away.

Jay got in his truck, drove back to the house, and opened the front door to hear nothing but silence and a heavy odor of alcohol. He quickly followed the trail of the odor to find his wife drunk in her office, after clearly having a meltdown. Her office was wrecked; the tv screen was broken there were holes punched in the walls, her computer had been smashed, her curtains and bookshelf were knocked down and torn up and her desk was scratched up with punch marks in it. Jay sighed before picking her up, carrying to the bathroom and throwing her in the shower, and running cold water on her which made her dart awake. After getting her a towel, he helped her up and into the bedroom before giving her a cup of coffee, some orange slices, and Gatorade before walking out of the room without saying a word.

An hour later, after she sobered up, she felt horrible for what she said to him and she knew "sorry" would never be enough to undo what she did so she walked downstairs and gave him her wedding ring and said, "here you deserve better than me". Jay put the ring back on her finger and said "you were drunk... it's ok, I still love you but I need the rest of tonight to try and face you again after those horrible words that came out of your mouth...the very lips that I kissed for the last 7 years spat venom at me".

Andrea walked away and went up to the bedroom and struggled for a bit before eventually falling asleep. When the morning came, Jay woke up to Maldor and Maya standing there with grim faces before Andrea came down and said "what's the news". Maldor said, " we've found the dimensions Victoria is in but you two have to go alone because it is horribly dangerous...in this dimension, Agathor wiped out the gods and without us, world war 3 started and destroyed civilization on earth and after that, Agathor's creations, invaded and took over what was left of the earth's civilization and they're still hunting for you and Jay".

Andrea sighed and said "you aren't coming are you? and Maya said "we'd love to but we can't risk Agathor capturing all of us and harnessing our powers, plus even if we could get around that, we just can't abandon our duties to our society and the universe to go on a rescue mission". Andrea sighed and said "then we'll go just tell us the name and we'll get it done " and Ariel said "it's called dimension 454-B.

Andrea said "thanks you guys, I'm sorry about my harsh words... Victoria means everything to me and I would lay down my life for my baby" and Maya said, "we understand...you have 3 days to return, otherwise we will travel back in time and stop you before you enter the portal". Andrea said "that sounds fair" and Maldor nodded and said good luck you two" before they disappeared back to the celestial temple. Jay used his powers to open up the rift while Andrea left a note on the kitchen table for the family in case the worst should happen. Andrea grabbed Jay's hand and said "ready?" and he said "ready", and then they jumped through unaware of the horrors that await them on the other side.
