Chapter 49 

However, like Valeria, Charles did not love Quinlyn too. He approached Quinlyn and was now with her only to gain more power and status. He had always desired it. It was all to allow him to stand taller and go farther. 

In Charles‘ heart, Josephine had always been the woman he liked. 

Over on the other side, ever since Diana moved there, Josephine and Ragnar had been living in the same room and sleeping. on the same queen–sized bed. 

However, Ragnar frowned as he peered at Josephine stacking yet another quilt on the bed. She was dividing the queen–sized bed into two sections, one big and the other small. “What’s the point of doing this?” Ragnar questioned. 

“Even if you get another bed of quilts, with your bad sleeping posture, you will still be crossing over those quilts and burrowing into my arms at night!” grumbled Ragnar. 

Josephine was speechless. 

Josephine thought back to all the nights she had reminded herself countless times to avoid falling asleep in such a horrible posture. Yet it ended up being useless. She would fall asleep, and by the time she woke up, she would be in Ragnar’s embrace. 

Moreover, she would end up hugging him tightly with her arms and legs every single time. 

Josephine’s face turned red as she blushed. 

She eventually started to recall that since that night, Ragnar had also kissed her as part of his act. He even did push–ups as a means to deal with Diana, who was outside the door. 

Since then, there seemed to be an ambiguous feeling between them. Ragnar also gazed at her fervently from time to time. 

“Another thing was, in the morning, I accidentally touched Ragnar’s…” she thought. 

Josephine’s face flushed a darker shade of red and appeared nearly bloodshot.

Ragnar’s scorching gaze fell on Josephine’s lips. It could not be disregarded. 

Josephine sensed it.

A long while passed before Ragnar finally let go of Josephine. 

He looked at Josephine and warned, “Legally, you are my wife! Stop tempting me if you don’t want me to do anything to you!” 

Josephine was speechless. 

She was innocent. “When did I seduce him?” she pondered. 

Ragnar stared at Josephine’s innocent face and her lips, which had turned glossy after being kissed by him. He only felt that his blood was getting more heated up.

Josephine fell silent. 

“You promised to respect my opinion!” said Josephine as she lowered her head. 

Ragnar could not respond anything to that. 

If it were not for the promise Ragnar made that he would respect Josephine’s opinion, just based on the fact that she had piqued his interest, and him being a 28–year–old grown man, adding on that he was her legal husband, he would have taken her at that moment. 

“I’m going to grab a shower!” snapped Ragnar as he stood up to leave. 

Just as he was leaving, something crossed his mind. He whirled back to look at Josephine and instructed, “There will be a party tomorrow evening. You will be attending the party with me, so prepare yourself for it.” 

Josephine was stunned. 

She looked at Ragnar and asked, “Can I not go?” 

Ragnar responded, “Out of the question!“. 

Josephine was again left speechless. 

She was merely an ordinary individual. She was unsure how to deal with these banquets organized by the rich and powerful. She pondered, “Should I attend as Ragnar’s wife?” Yet, as of that moment, theirs was a secret marriage. 

The agreement between Ragnar and Josephine was only for three years. At the end of three years, they would go their separate ways. She was not willing. 

“Grandma is the one who requested that you attend the party!” said Ragnar to Josephine. “Grandma and Grandpa Lambert are great friends. The Lambert family has extended an invitation to the banquet to Grandma this time.” 

“Rest assured. I’ve already told Grandma that you don’t want to disclose the fact that we are married at present!” added Ragnar. 

Ragnar had decided on this matter. Since Josephine was unable to object, nor did she have any right to say that she would not attend the party, she could only concur. 

The next night was the Lambert family’s banquet. 

Josephine followed Ragnar and Diana to the Lambert residence. 

Due to the Levine family’s status in Sloummont currently, the arrival of Ragnar and Diana immediately brought about the warm welcome and reception of the Lambert family. 

“Mrs. Levine and Mr. Levine, welcome.” gushed Miguel with a smile, greeting both Diana and Ragnar. 

Then his gaze fell on Josephine, who came in together with them. “This is…” 

Josephine was feeling a little awkward. 

“This is Josie, my cherished granddaughter–in–law,” said Diana with a gentle smile while reaching out and grabbing Josephine’s tiny hand. 

Everyone was shocked. 

Josephine also stared at Diana with her eyes wide open. 

Diana smiled before sighing heavily. “Josie is someone I have acknowledged! In the future, when Ragnar chooses to marry a wife, it should be someone like her!” 

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. 

Miguel laughed. “It seems like Ms. Yeager is an impressive person.” 

“That’s for certain!” praised Diana immediately about Josephine. 

Miguel and the Lambert family exchanged a few more words before Miguel chimed in, “Mrs. Levine, my father hasn’t seen you for a long time. He has been waiting for you in the living room.” 

Diana followed the Lambert family and went into the living room. Upon seeing Bradley, the two old folks who had not seen each other for a long time started chatting about trivial matters. 

Ragnar was also soon invited to the study by Miguel. 

Josephine was bored by herself.

He first accompanied Quinlyn to pay their respects to the Lambert family. 

After all, the purpose of the banquet that the Lambert family hosted was to disclose to everyone that Quinlyn is a member of the Lambert family. It was also to reveal Charles was Quinlyn’s boyfriend. 

Charles snuck off by himself as soon as a lull occurred. 

“Josie, Charles called out. 

Josephine turned around when she heard someone calling her. 

She immediately frowned when she saw that it was Charles. 

“Why are you here?” questioned Charles as he swiftly approached Josephine. 

Josephine did not respond to his questioning. 

She had no desire at all to see or even speak to Charles. 

She was about to leave straight away. 

Charles stood in front of her to block her. He looked at Josephine affectionately and said to her joyfully, “Josie, I’ve made it!” 

I’m no longer the helpless young man whose destiny is in the hands of others. I’m no longer someone who can be bullied at will without even being able to fight back,” added Charles. 

“I’m currently the CEO of Lambert Group. I’m rich and have a distinguished status sufficient enough to protect you,” continued Charles.
