I’ve been looking for her in her pack for months, but she seems to have disappeared… I will find you, Esmerelda… I smell the ground and her scent smells recent. Is this borderline-stalking… yeah? Do I care? No… Esme was meant to be mine!

“Brother what the heck are we doing here?! This girl has probably moved on with her life, so you should too!” She looks annoyed at me. She’s been telling me something along these lines for years, but I obviously don’t listen. We kept walking deeper into the woods when we realize we’re on different pack territory. Normally this would be bad, but it didn’t seem like the guards were out yet or they weren’t used to having visitors.

“Look she has a new pack, which means she probably has a mate! So, let’s go!” She drags me away but I get out of her grip and I’m fuming! She has a mate!? Absolutely not!

“I will not move on sister!” I took a deep breath to calm down “As I said she will be mine!” I glare at my sister… she didn’t understand how important Esme was to me.

“I know it hurt you when it turned out she wasn’t your mate… but you have a mate out there somewhere, we just haven’t found her yet.” She tries to take my hand but I pull away.

“I don’t want her, I want Esme!” I’m pretty sure my face was red as a tomato with how angry I am right now. “She even had the nerve to say that our love was draining her and that the price of my love was one she didn’t want to pay… well now she’s making me mad… she’ll be back to me…soon… she belongs to me… I served her well.”

“You were a fling to her! It didn’t even last that long! If I remember right, it was a couple of months when you two were underclassmen in college!” She thinks she can intimidate me!?

“I was the best thing to happen to her!”

“No, you’re not! Clearly, her mate is! I saw the look of relief when she graduated, relieved to get away from you!” Relieved!? Oh no she didn’t just say that!

“She’ll be the one complaining about that mate of hers, and I’ll be the one to pick up the pieces. She was always my favorite subject… my sweet submissive subject…” I let out a devilish smile on my face.

“Yeah, to the point of stalking and almost forcing yourself on her…” She mumbled under her breath…

“I will win this war, and if she doesn’t, I’ll kill her friends and family to remind her of my love.”

“Great start a war with at least one maybe two packs all for a girl THAT ISN’T YOUR MATE!” She gets up in my face and I push her back.

“Yeah, I’m willing to go to war for her! Despite our estrangement, I’m her man. She’ll remember…I’m her man. I served her well.”

“Uh-huh…yeah being the crazy boyfriend to her left a great impression. Why do you think she got an associate!? A normal business degree is four years, she only got two. Probably to get away from you, crazy lunatic! If you weren’t related to me, I’d leave you! You’re freaking me out!”

“Where are you going!?” I shout at her.

“Home! You know, where I live! Away from you!” She continues to walk away eventually shifting to get away from me. I go to a wild rose bush and pick a beautiful red rose… I silently put it on the porch of what I presume is her new packhouse and leave a note for her… when I hear footsteps from inside I run away so whoever finds me doesn’t warn the alpha and I actually get in trouble. I don’t want her to see me yet…

Esme

I had been working with Alarick all morning and we’re on lunch break. He gets up and stretches his legs and arms.

“Ugh, I feel like we’ve been doing this for forever…” He exaggerates his yawn and starts being dramatic with me.

“Oh, come on it wasn’t that bad, just a few hours.” I lightly slap his arm and he grabbed it to pull me in for a kiss.

“Well, how about we get some fresh air on the porch? It’s a nice day outside and I don’t want to be cooped up all day.”

“Alright, that’s fair. It is a nice day.” We go downstairs, and as we go down, I thought I heard someone running, but figured someone was doing their workout. I shrug it off and when we get outside, I find a red rose and a note… I go pale immediately, drop my glass of sweet tea and it shatters into pieces, spilling the yummy drink all over the place.

“What’s wrong, Esme? Talk to me!” I feel him grab my waist trying to comfort me but I recognize this calling card anywhere…

“He’s back…he found me…”
