Chapter 2

Ev opened her eyes.

She got out of bed and walked to the door. She could feel her mother. She sprinted to the elevator and went down to the basement and as the doors opened she hid until the doors were about to close then she sprinted out and down a long cold hallway feeling her mother call to her.

Ev opened a door to a very cold room and saw row after row of sheets dropped over things on trolleys. She slowly walked into the room.

Her heart new which one to go to.

Ev stopped walking in front of a trolley and grabbed the sheet that was there and gently pulled it off. There before her was her mother laying in state. Ev grabbed her hand. It was cold but familiar. Ev looked at the door she just came through and the lights in the room she was in began to flicker then went out. She closed her eyes and held her dead mothers hand.

In the hallway the elevator doors opened up and 4 hospital wards men hurried out and began searching the rooms one by one looking for Ev.

The wards men looked at the morgue door and then each other and said...

“Surely not....she would not be in here because how would she know to come here?” one guy said reaching for the keys to unlock the door and gain entrance.

“Beats me but we better check all the same” said another guy checking his watch as he was now doing over time searching for a 6 year old girl when he could be down town throwing back a few beers.

“The door won’t budge...the key works but the door won’t open” exclaimed one of the men who was an ex footballer and pushing hard against the door with his shoulder while his friend used his phone to tell hospital admin of the discovery.

Ev put her mothers hands over her heart and tears fell from her eyes that were glowing orange.

The trees had given her a gift.

This gift was very powerful and would take some time to be discovered and learned properly but when Ev was in a highly emotionalised state of being the gift would come to help her as it was doing right now. She closed her eyes. The room stopped glowing and the door swung open with two men falling to the floor as a result. Ev kissed her mothers cheek and stood facing the men who picked themselves up off the floor and came to her side, they picked her up and replaced the cover over her mother and left the morgue walking to the elevator with Ev who was now asleep in the arms of the men who thought they had saved her but really they had found her by mistake and it was time to sleep and heal for Ev because she was going to need every ounce of strength and courage to contend with what was coming.
