Chapter 29

Emma’s POV

Larus and Elijah stood in the doorway of the living room in their evils, glaring at Andy that still had his wings out. Alex was in her evil too and sat right next to me on the couch watching Andy across from us. I sighed, “Well Andy you might want to start explaining before they glare holes through you.”

He gave a small laugh, “Well to start I have been your family’s Guardian for decades… The beginning of it was when I met a girl named Betsy around the 1890’s. I was still human then, in my early twenties… She was working in the clothing factory I made deliveries to… We started talking and hung out when we could. We were both young and in love with each other… But that all ended one day when there was an explosion at the factory. I got there seeing the building engulfed by flames. I looked through everyone standing outside and didn’t see her anywhere so without thinking I ran in to save her. I just didn’t know there was going to be a secondary explosion…”

“...I just remember the extreme burning that flooded across my body. Then I saw two white feathery wings coming closer to me. They told me not to worry and that I will get a second chance at life. The next thing I knew I woke in this place surrounded by more people with wings and I had a pair of my own… My maker taught me how to be a guardian as Betsy left behind a younger sister. That sister was your great great grandmother. Then I just followed the bloodline... When I got to your father, guardians became illegal so I hid in this town. My maker cut me off of the angel mind link and they have been searching for me ever since.”

Andy sat back and stretched his wings out before folding them behind him, “So any questions?”

I was still amazed at Andy’s angel form. He looked nothing like the grandpa figure I used to know. Too much has been changing so fast. I have a mate. Now I have a guardian angel. Actually my whole family had a guardian angel! And they never mentioned it! Wait if he was our guardian wasn’t he supposed to protect my parents! If he was around why did they die?

I felt my heartbeat start to speed up and my breathing was getting faster. Then it started to feel like someone was suffocating me. I launched up from my seat, everyone stared at me with worry. Alex stood up too, “Em, what’s wrong?... You need to breathe, your heart rate is going crazy.”

I ignored her and took off running out of the room and down the hall.

I need to get away from this!

I ran outside and across the lawn into the forest.

“Em, please talk to me. I can help.”

“Emma you should come back and get some rest.”

My head was cleared of their thoughts as I just focused on getting as far away from there as possible. I didn’t even know how long I ran for but my lungs were on fire and I slumped onto the ground in exhaustion. I didn’t recognize the forest around me.

I should probably find my way back.

I felt bad for yelling at them but I needed to clear my head for a few minutes. I could feel Alex being worried about me and it just made me feel worse. I looked up at the sky seeing the sun was going down.

I need to get back soon.

It felt like it was getting darker and darker as I walked up the mountain towards the castle, at least I think I am going the right way. Suddenly I stepped on a tree branch and it snapped, sending me falling down the mountain.

Shit this is not good.

My body was rolling in the dirt until I collided with a tree, stopping my descent. I had sharp pain run through my body when I moved to get up.

°Alex! I need help!°

It only took about ten minutes for me to hear the flapping of wings getting closer to me.

Please be Alex and not an angel.

I heard someone land a little bit away and the crunching of leaves was getting louder. After a few moments Elijah appeared in front of me and let out a relieved sigh. He ran over to me and looked me over, “Thank Satan I found you. How badly are you hurt?”

I pushed myself to sit up a bit more, “Where is Alex?”

“She is still flying looking for you. You shut us out so you couldn’t hear us when we were trying to find you… Let’s get you home.”

He tried to gently pick me up but a pain still shot through me. Elijah was a lot bigger than Alex and his tail practically wrapped around half my body. He jumped off the ground and launched us into the air. I laughed to myself, “You know Alex is going to kill you for touching me. Especially holding me this close.”

He laughed too, “She might make an exception but who knows with that girl.”

We landed at the castle and he took me to the end of the hall and down stairs to a room I hadn’t seen before. There was medical equipment everywhere and a bed that he laid me down on, “I didn’t know this room existed.”

Elijah began looking through some drawers, “Yeah we keep it for major injuries since we can’t go to the hospital and sometimes we can’t go get blood.”

I nodded, “I am not hurt that bad. I just need to rest.”

He glanced over at me, “You have two cracked ribs and you are pretty scratched up. The cut on your head will need stitches because it is too deep for just a bandage.”

I lifted my hand to touch my head and pulled it back to see blood, “How do you know this?”

He laughed and walked over to me with a tray full of supplies, “I am an evil remember. My senses are far better than a humans and I know how to read injuries.”

“...Alex hasn’t really said anything about what she can do.”

He pulled out a stitching needle and leaned my head back then began stitching, “Half of them she doesn’t know yet. She is still very young in our years, she is only an infant. Over the years she will learn more and find out what she is truly capable of.”

“What are you guys capable of?”

He laughed and tied off the stitch and cut it, “Let’s just say, there is a reason we don’t carry swords like the angels do.”

“So you guys are strong?”

He placed a bandage over the stitching, “Humans being changed into evils are the second strongest being on this planet.”

When he looked back through the tray while I looked over the cuts on my arms, “What is the strongest?”

He pulled out some antiseptic and tended to the cuts, “Evils like Larus… that’s why it is illegal to turn angels into evils. Larus restrains himself but the others are normally killed as they are unstable. Just then Alex busted through the door, “Holy shit! I was so worried!”

She ran over to me and pulled me into a hug which made my ribs feel like they were breaking, “Ummm… Alex. You are hurting me.”

She quickly released me and looked me over in a panic, “I am so sorry! Are you okay?! I can feel you are hurt.”

“I am fine. Just a little bruised up.”

Andy slipped into the doorway, “I might be able to help with that. It has been awhile but I might still remember my powers… You have to trust me.”

I looked over at him then nodded.

It’s better than having broken ribs.

Andy walked over and sat on the edge of the bed as Alex stood back against the wall, “I am not going to lie. This will be uncomfortable.”

“Just get it over with.”

He laid his hands on my head and began to feel an energy seep into my skull. Very slowly I felt a few sharp pains as my ribs started tingling.

This is weird and uncomfortable.

Alex slumped over and held her head. She mumbled to wear we could barely hear her, “Can you please make this quick?”

Andy released his hands from me as Alex let out a sigh of relief and sat on the ground, “Stupid angel powers.”

I felt good enough to move so I went and knelt down next to her, “What happened?”

Andy answered for her, “She didn’t need to be healed but since she is connected to you; my powers affected her too… It feels very strange to be healed when you don’t need it.”

Alex slowly stood back up, rubbing her head, “I am fine. Just please don’t do that again.”

Andy nodded, “As long as Emma isn’t hurt I won’t be needing to… Now then, Emma can we please talk. I am sorry I didn’t explain enough at first. I was stupid. You want to know about your parents don’t you?”
