Chapter 1 

The girl sat quietly on the sofa. After listening to what her uncle, Glenn Meyer, had to say, she fell silent for a long while. 

Taking some time to clear her thoughts, she finally spoke, “So… now you want me to get married on behalf of Vanny?” 

Glenn looked at her guiltily and replied with a sigh, “Edith, I really have no choice. Johann took Vanny and left without a word. Now the Lawson family wants her. What can I do? You look like her, and you are also legally my daughter…” 

“But… I’m engaged to Johann. I am his fiancee…” 

Before she could finish, Glenn fell to his knees with a thud. Edith was taken aback. She quickly stepped forward to help him up, but he refused.

A familiar voice came through.

At that split second, Edith almost cried.

“I’m sorry, Edith. I can’t take her back now,” Johann interrupted in his tired and hoarse voice. 

“Why?” she asked, quivering, 

“Edith, you know that Lawson Jr. is a playboy. Vanny won’t have a good life marrying him. That night, she came crying and begged me to take her away. How could I not help her? Edith, I know you must be very angry, but trust me. Once I settle her, I’ll come back to you.”

When Edith heard his reply, she was dumbfounded. She trembled so hard that she almost fell.

“I am indeed strong, but is there anything wrong with that? Does it mean that a strong willed girl does not need a man’s concern and care?” she quizzed. 

Tears welled up in her eyes, but she stubbornly refused to shed a tear. 

She stared hard into the sky to stop herself from crying. 

“Johann, even if I beg you now, you won’t bring Vanhy back, right?” 

“Edith, she’s your cousin. How can you be so cruel? Don’t worry. I’ll settle her down and come back to resolve the issues.” 

“Cruel?” Edith’s heart shattered. She could no longer tell what bitterness was. 

“Okay, I’ll wait for you. I’ll wait for a perfect resolution,” she uttered word by word.

She hung up the phone. She could not stop her tears from falling anymore. 

She was alone and had no one to turn to now. 

After a long time, she turned around and looked at Glenn sadly.

From the time she agreed till moving into her new residence, it took only half a day. She did not expect the Lawson family to be so anxious. 

As she stood in front of the gorgeous villa, Ned, the butler, spoke softly, “Mrs. Lawson, this is your new house with Mr. Lawson. Please feel free to let the staff inside know your needs. They will definitely serve you well.” 

“Mrs. Lawson…” Edith felt a little repulsive with that status. 

She had just returned to the country. All she thought of was to marry her beloved fiance, but she didn’t expect that the man she had been longing for would take off with Vanessa and help her escape marriage. 

She looked up at the villa in front of her and felt that it was a monster. Its mouth was wide open as if it would swallow her whole in the next second. 

She took a deep breath and strode in without hesitation. 

Once she stepped in, she would be a member of the Lawson family.

After she entered, she asked Ned, “Excuse me, when can I see my husband and go to the courthouse to register the marriage?”
