Chapter 16 

“Mr. Lawson likes wine–glazed steak. Do you want to make it for him?” 

“Yes, when he comes back,” she nodded and said. 

In the evening, she talked about some trivialities with Susan. After that, she went to sleep. She did not know why the man’s cold face would appear in her dream. He looked unreasonable, indifferent, vicious, and annoying. 

God had really given him a good appearance. But he was probably not a good man! 

In the next few days, she was busy with work and had to cook. In order to make the steak, she really put in a lot of effort. 

Now everything was ready. All she needed to do was to meet up with Simon Lawson. 

Edith had just gotten off work today and didn’t expect that Vanessa would text her. 

[Edith, I’m going home. I have something to tell you.] 

If Vanessa was back, it meant that Johann was back as well! 

Her heart skipped a beat with mixed emotions. 

Finally, she smiled bitterly and took a taxi back to the Meyer Family. 

Standing in front of the door, she felt her fingers trembling. 

Just as she was about to push the door open and enter, she heard a conversation inside. 

“Mr. Meyer, I’ve returned Vanny to you in perfect condition. I’ve completed my mission.” 

“How can you take her away without saying a word? Do you know how anxious I am? Vanny, you are too ignorant. Why do you always trouble Johann?” 

“Mr. Meyer, it’s okay. Vanny treats me as her elder brother. I can’t just watch her get into trouble. If the Lawson family wants an explanation, the Davis family will not let it go. Vanny’s business is my business. I will take responsibility to the end.” 

“Johann, thank you so much!” 

Edith heard Vanessa’s sweet but greasy voice, which was like a baby’s voice. Every time she called out to Johann, she would always raise her tone, which was extremely sweet. 

Her voice was also full of joy and worship, as if she regarded him as a hero. 

The three of them inside were all very happy. 

Outside the door, she felt a chill run down her spine. 

They chatted for a long time, but Johann didn’t mention her. He was still immersed in the excitement of being a hero. 

He saved an innocent girl, rescued her from the hands of the wicked, and helped her guarantee her happiness of her youth. He should have a great sense of honor now. How could he have thought of her? 

They were really like a family! 

She knew that Vanessa liked Johann. Every time she went on a date with him, Vanessa would pester them and enjoy disturbing them. 

As long as Edith turned around to do something else, Vanessa would occupy Johann. 

Fortunately, Johann’s heart was with Edith. He loved her deeply, so Edith was not worried.

She had talked to Vanessa a few times, but Vanessa couldn’t stand it at all. She was still persistent. The two girls had fallen out with each other many 

times because of this. 

Later, Edith got a chance to go abroad. She didn’t want to be a parasite and wanted to improve herself, so she went out. 

On the day she left, Johann swore to her that he would definitely keep his loyalty and wait for her. 

In her two–year exchange, Johann kept his word. 

They were planning to get married as soon as she graduated, but she didn’t expect that she would marry someone else at this critical moment, and it was caused by her fiance. 

Her heart was riddled with holes, and she felt terrible. 

“What am I going to do now? Am I going to embarrass myself? Let Vanessa see how embarrassed I am?” 

She gritted her teeth and finally turned to leave. 

Along the way, she was in a daze. 

After a while, her phone rang. It was Johann. 

She answered the phone with trembling hands and heard his excited voice on the other end. 

“Edith, I’m back. I wanted to give you a surprise at the Meyer Family, but you aren’t there. Where are you now? I’ll go find you.” 

“Didn’t my uncle and cousin tell you the truth?” she murmured with a bitter smile on her face. 

“What’s the matter? What happened to you?” 

“Johann, are you happy to help Vanessa escape? You are indeed a hero, but… for me, you are a fucking coward! We are over. Don’t come to me anymore!” 

In the end, she couldn’t control her emotions, roared angrily, and then hung up the phone directly. 

Her brain was spinning. How difficult it had been for the lovers to maintain their relationship in the past two years separately in two countries, but it had been destroyed in one day. 

Johann kept calling her, but she didn’t answer. In the end, he sent a text message. 

[Edith, it’s been two years. You’ve changed, haven’t you? Vanny is your cousin. Is there anything wrong with me doing this? The Davis family is not afraid of trouble. I can’t stand by and do nothing] 

[Edith, answer the phone, or I’ll get angry. I’ve been giving in to you all these years because I cherish this relationship. Are you trying to throw a tantrum with me?] 

“He is angry?” Edith snorted.
